It was fun and the challenge of figuring out a way to win was cool - but I had to reload too many times for my liking haha! I loved this fight. Then again I had Gale with fire elemental & fireball, my MC was a bard that picked up lightning bolt, Shadowheart with spirit guardians, and we had blood of Lathander. Didn’t have to use any barrelmancy, though there was one explosive barrel already there I used.

I am no gamer, but I LOVE bg3, and even on explorer mode I failed this quest NINE TIMES before I decided to search youtube. creating barriers to funnel the baddies, swapping gale into my party (I try to avoid him lol) and using shadowheart's spirit of guardian helped me FINALLY SUCCEED! you rock!

Man this worked. Made it a walk in the park after this tip. I couldnt find the wall of stone but did buy the wall of fire which helped slow them down so much. And ofcourse the barrels. Protected gale with shadowheart's spirit guardian while both gale and my sorcerer spamming fireballs. And karlach taking on shadows.

The boxes as a barrier was a great idea. I didn't have the wall, but I used the boxes plus web and (with Wither's help) went in with three three clerics. Three times turn undead and three spirit guardians tore them apart.

You can also summon the guardian spirits for shadowheart. They do the type of damage in a circle around her that all enemies are weak to. Just summon the spirits and walk around with her. Most enemies get one hit when you walk into them.

Boxes and barrels worked, the merchant didn't have the scrolls for earth walls but hey haste potions, Glyph of Warding, plus Turn Undead, all my bombs and grease bottles came in handy just the same and barely manage to pull it off in Tactician but I did. So again thank you for the box and barrel strat!

Late comment but I just want to thank you so much. I would've been stuck on this for hours but I put some barricades up in a similar order to you along with a barrel of oil and firewine as backup defense after the wall fell.

So glad it helped - I know I would have hated moving on without completing this mission successfully. But I'm not sure the strategy is perfect haha - seems like there were some spells that Gale and Asterion get that are pretty useful I just didn't know about them!! And I was playing on easy mode - not sure if that's why I always got the wall scrolls or not - but glad you're through anyway. Good luck!

Yours is a great way too because collecting and setting up all the barrels and crates is time consuming haha! I may try that second go round cause I think a style that kills large numbers at one time could be better!

This mission was so frustrating I actually considered letting him die, but I did it on my fifth try, so I haven't seen anyone mention this, beside the wall of fire/stone use LOTS of fireballs, you either cast them or find scrolls with traders, the lady at last light inn has them, also use whatever sphere scrolls you might find, helps a ton. For the combat with the shadows, if you have enough slots use shadowheart's daylight spell, it prevents them from respawning & thus you can kill them easily with karlach or your strongest warrior, shadowheart's spirit guardians also helped with the ravens.

Explorer Difficulty player here: I find Wall of Fire also helps if you can find it at any point while meandering around/talking to traders. Once the initiative scrolled across the screen and made me panic, I used wall of fire to take out the big mass of enemies that suddenly appeared. Much like Wall of Stone, the positioning is important, because you don't want to hit allies, but you also need to crowd control. I panicked so bad when I saw all the enemies spawn in because I hadn't rested in a long time but my party health was fine from potions beforehand. This is a great strat tho!

Yeah great tip - wall of fire seems to work very well here. Also I didn't know at the time - but protect the person who casts the spell - if they take damage the wall goes away.

Thanks for the info. This took a long time and many attempts and I didn't enjoy it at all! The boxes idea worked great (thanks!!) and helped slow them down. I also put a lot of grease and oil round my defensive position. However, it still took me a lot of tries and in the end I had to swap out two of my party for spellcasters (via Wither) and use the darkness spell to blind the archers, the turn the undead and hunger of hadar. It must have taken me at least 12 attempts!!

I managed to scrape by on tactician with Wyll casting Hunger of Hadar approximately where your stone wall is and giving Gale a potion of speed to blast groups with fireball and thunder wave. Then a monk and an oath of vengeance paladin were able to hold off the shadows from the other side. Took a couple tries though. Definitely the hardest fight I've had on tactician so far.

Hunger of Hadar - That's another good idea. Anything that slows them down helps push the odds to our side! Most of them are not super tough they just have large numbers!

What worked for me was using the Wall of Fire scroll + Shadowheart's Guardian Spirits + Cloud of Daggers. The first two are so powerful that you should be able to handle the majority. But using barricades is smart too! 😁

Yeah it seems like Wall of Fire might even be better? Cause wall of stone doesn't kill anyone it just blocks and stalls them - I didn't even know it existed at the time though. I was pretty much hacking and slashing thru the game until this quest killed me like six times I had to try a new approach haha. Thanks for the tips!

@PopPopGames Exactly! I didn't expect it to be that difficult. I had to do the mission without Gale. He ran away because I didn't want to give him more items, haha. I underestimated scrolls until that point in the game. They can surely help you if you don't have a mage. Thanks for your tips as well!

I put a Wall of Fire across the beach just like you did with the Stone, but farther up. Like basically the other side of the grease patch. All the enemies that spawn will have to run through it, and on lower difficulties that will kill a lot of them right away. Put something like a Spike Growth right where your grease was, so if they survive the fire they're slowed, and almost no one will even get in range of the portal.

Yeah well you were half right - they don't block shots very well haha! They start breaking of course but they help us move a few turns ahead - and also the cursed go around the crates which takes up a turn or two and funnels them to us! Darkness is a great idea - never even occurred to me but that must slow them down real nice.

Haha- that's actually pretty cool that was tough to save them all there. The quartermaster had multiple scrolls in my game but also you can try darkness on the portal and lots of explosive barrels placed before battle.

Cool to see how you did it. I didn't use boxes or a wall in my fight. Took a few attempts but mainly had my team spamming fire arrows and throwing alchemist fire. I would only melee as they approach the rock and only if needed. Used drow light spell for advantage and reveal. Then saved fireball and glyphs of warding for the last waves. Had a warlock, shadow, laezel, and astarion at lvl 6.

Yeah my team was 3 melee warriors and Shadowheart who doesnt have much in offensive magic - and it did not go well. That's why I had to come up with this scheme - but seems better to bring multi-hit magic to this battle like you said. Playing thru again and fireball is my best friend.

I threw a bunch of grease bottles on the ground where the undead spawn and topped it with my Tav’s hunger of hadar. Every time they tried to leave I knocked them back in with repelling eldtrich blast, void bulbs, or had Karlach chuck them back in. For the crows and shadow wraiths, shadowheart and guardian spirits exist.

for the rangers i found effective using the level 3 warlock spell that obscure vision and deal damage, so the enemies on the left only could either go througt there and not attack or die on the spines of my druid covering the shore, the rest was about attacking as much as posible while blocking the portal with karlack

Try wall of fire it works great. Wall of ice is ok but usually crumbles fast. Also check and see if anyone has the wall spells if no scrolls.

One answer here is "Wall of Fire", "Sanctuary" and "Spirit Guardians". Get a hireling (druid for example) with Wall of Fire. Bring Gale. Cast two Walls blocking both approaches, or perhaps two walls where most attackers come from. Shadowheart first casts Spirit Guardians, and then Sanctuary on both Wall casters. Wall casters must be careful to not cast any damaging spells to break Sanctuary, but may need to break out f.ex Fireball last two turns. Shadowheart can walk around with Spirit Guardians destroying most creatures in her path, and cast Glyph of Warding (Lightning) AOE spells - do not use water or ice that puts out the walls of fire. Cast Guardian of Faith close to the portal to take care of melee attackers getting close. Your main should hopefully also have some AOE in their arsenal - my bard has Glyph of Warding as well.

@@vella8650 You might like to get on Reddit and/or discord? You can join groups for specific games or even just gaming in general - toss out a question or help someone who's stuck. There's LOTS of groups you will find some you like and I've seen lots of people even make good friends!

Use turn undead on the final 3 turns. A lot will die, most should turn and move away for the remainder of the time. The ones that do turn, you can focus and kill before they do damage

the wall of fire is allot better than wall of stone it kills monsters and cant be destroyed , My method is first I poured oil on the ground, then I put explosive barrels on the edges, then I put the wall of fire and made the magician use the spirit guardian guard near the gate, and next to it all the heroes throw arrows and magic at the monsters

Yeah someone else said the wall of fire worked great - not sure if those scrolls are available there.

You just need Gale with lightning charges and his lightning spell plus Shadowheart's Spirit Guardian plus a Guardian of Faith at the foot of the rocks.. No one will get close enough and the archers will die before they can do enough damage to the portal.

Thanks for the idea! Just barrels, etc. on solo tactical is not that hard. A lot of barrels. Okay, all the barrels. Arranged in a wall four high and three deep surrounding the portal. Get in the light and target the vines - the only things that can get past the barrels. Didn't even need to short rest.

Try no long rest - gear up and rest up before talking to Minthara and you should be ready to handle the camp without a long rest

tried the barrel and crate strategy and they still shoot through it. not sure if its a bug or they simply don't even consider any barriers.

Yeah I saw a few arrows get thru too - I think they arc over - but I also saw some hit the barrier so it does work - also helps funnel the people towards your group and consumes time.

I had wall of stone in a similar position. Darkness cast on the portal. Shadowheart by the portal with spirit guardians. Karlach taking care of the shadows and wraiths. My ranger character taking out the ranged attackers. Gale providing support wherever needed. I found the encounter fairly easy with little damage to the portal taken.

For some reason even with boxes and barrels are lined up near the portal, archers are somehow still hitting it even though they touch the boxes/barrels 🤷‍♂️

Yeah some other players actually said that too - they may have even patched it that way - regardless we need to get you thru here - so try placing more boxes and barrels by the tree line and water line - this will delay the archers 1 or 2 turns from even getting a shot off and also may block more areas in that area - and use the walls of stone or fire to not only block them but guide them to the light area where the anti-curse spell is and they will die instantly. But also try reading thru the comments - lots of additional good tips there - including: lowering your difficulty for this mission use darkness on the portal or the wooded area most enemies spawn spirit guardians spell blindness spell good luck

Sadly the vendor at the inn near the fight does not have that scrolls stone wall for sale

Using the boxes was awesome idea i just put down a bunch of grease/oil put up a ton of boxes and strategically ignited the firewine barrels and it was easy. I died so many times before i found your vid.. lol.. this game makes you get creative. ty

Yeah anything that makes them use a turn and/or walk a longer path is useful - can also try grease or spirit guardians or Withers helpers - anything to occupy and use up some turns

Took me an hour to do fully complete this damn mission!!! (For one attempt, i probably spent a total of 2 hours on it😅)

Hello, can you help me? I rescued Halsin from the goblins and he joined my camp. He told me to lift the shadow curse, but I was doing a quest for Lae’zel about the githyanki creche. When I finished the quest and returned to the camp, I couldn’t find him. I’m still in chapter one. Is this a bug or did I do something wrong?

Well one thing I remember when playing was I thought some people were missing from my camp but some of the camps are big and I just wasn't looking everywhere - so be sure to look in every corner of camp he may be there. Secondly I also remember at some points in the game going to camp brought me to like a "mini camp"? So you had to move a little further in the story or go to a different area to get to the full camp where everybody is. Not sure exactly but that's the best I can explain it. And sometimes you might need to go just a little further in the story to give them time to show up. Also if Halsin was talking to you about lifting the shadow curse he may be waiting for you at the last lamp inn if you maybe already talked to the guy in the med bed? Lets start with that and see if he turns up but if not maybe we can figure it out.

Halsin: you need to protect me!! Me: okay, can't be that hard :D, protect you from wha... oh my god.

Yeah I'm not surprised really - I play this and most games in tank warrior mode. I realized by the end I screwed myself not paying attention to my magic and to stealth and so on. One of the things that made Asterion my "weakest" was his health was low and he got knocked out quickly - but obviously that's a problem I could have easily rectified with skill points - armor - potions and scrolls - but I'm not a reader and I'm not very smart haha! Glad the vamp is getting it done for you!

i was having some trouble but than i did one of the dumbest things i did in this game i was like ok i cant kill them what if i just put a owlbear use a spell to make it HUGE and put it in front of the portal and it worked lol

For some reason the wall of boxes/crates didn’t work for me. I had 4 rows and 4 levels of them and the arrows still made it through.

Yeah other people have said the same - not sure why mine did - not sure if they would patch that cause it seems reasonable they would block - hopefully you get a wall of stone that does seem to stop most long range attacks and also pens them in. At least the crates stop them from walking straight to the portal but you could probably get away with one level.

I’m so dumb I honestly don’t know why I never think about prepping like this. I just die 20 times and get frustrated 😂😂

Remember the house you went to with the flaming fist to fight the spider guy? It's that area. Speak to Halsin and he will mark it on your map when you agree to help him.

Thanks for this I had tried something similar and made massive crate walls but the arrows shit through them like they weren't even there. I can't seem to build the stone wall like that I can't do any dragging me I extend. I am on ps5.

When I couldn't drag the wall it was because I started in a bad spot or something blocked me - but it wasn't always easy to see. If you try to put it right where I did it should be a fairly clean path but look for rocks or bushes or anything that might be blocking. And the barrel crate wall should still help a bit hopefully - it will block some arrows but also block the demons from walking straight to the portal - it slows them down making them walk around or destroying it. Also people have been reporting success with the Guardian spell or also getting some helpers from withers.

Haha - so frustrating - try darkness cast on the portal if you have it. SOme players said archers can't see the portal in darkness spell.

@@PopPopGames thankfully, i managed to actually complete mission with the spirit guardian and the big knight that damages people when they get close. ‘I forget the names of spells that Shadowheart has but still helped regardless’ And just using divine smite with my paladin and pretty much any move that involved ‘take big sword, use a different buff on sword then swing at bad guy, he dead, you win 👍’ Still DESPISED the mission but worth it for getting rid if the curse so meh, plus i got to level 9 because of it so thats another plus Oh and I didn’t have darkness with anyone of my characters. So i just went after all the archers with my paladin and killed them as soon as possible

@@agentcreed1029 Congrats - that sounds like a very smart solid plan for this mission. Before I got my cheats and mods I hated this mission too but I'm starting to think they put it in so we would devise these kinds of strategies. I was trying to tank thru with hardly any magic and just primary combat and some scrolls I found - but the game had other ideas haha! Glad you got thru tho cause like you said it's worth it getting rid of the curse and also saving Halsin and the boy - I hated the feeling of losing that mission.

Hunger of Hagar, spirit guardians, fireball and Glyph of warding will solve your problems
