La Rochelle haven't been performing this season. They've lost half their top 14 games and should've lost to the Stormers as well. If the Stormers had a goal kicker, La Rochelle would've been out. Fair play to Leinster. There were some question marks around Byrne, Frawley and Osborne and they all left their mark on the game. Byrnes goal kicking made a huge difference. Let's see if they can go on to win it from here. Only 1 cup in 12 years is a poor return considering they make up the vast majority of the Irish team.

I know Leinster is not Ireland but will the rush defence transfer across to the Irish squad or would it need to be taught separately to them, is suppose logically it would.

I hope so but doubt it imo as eaststerby didn’t try do anything different in the 6 nations with defence but I hope they do as it will help a lot especially when playing big teams although are record isn’t bad under Easterby with what he has done with the lads

Sorry, no...your attack is boring. Defence can't be boring by it's very nature. Springboks play some low risk, turgid rugby. If it wasn't for a few of your wings and , you'd actually put your opposition and fans into a deep comatose state.

Nonsense. What he said was entirely accurate. People are losing their minds as if he said Nienaber was a bad coach or that Leinster are a worse side now than before. All he said was that Leinster have lost some sharpness in attack while they are still learning the defensive system that Nienaber brings. Which is 100% correct. Leinsters attack is still excellent, but it not at the level it was before under Lancaster. All Leinster fans can see that. Which is not surprising, considering Lancaster is primarily known for his attacking nous while Nienaber is famous for his defensive systems and acumen. But attacking prowess alone was not enough to get Leinster over the finish line in this competition. We needed to inject some steel and aggression into our defense, hence the whole idea of recruiting Nienaber in the first place. So in order to get to the level needed to win the tournament we are prepared to sacrifice a little on the attack in order to sharpen our defensive structures. And that is absolutely fine. And while we are at it, O'Driscoll is the greatest player ever to play for Ireland and for Leinster, and one of the greatest centres of all time period. His knowledge of professional rugby, and particularly Leinster rugby, is far greater than all of the clowns and keyboard warriors spewing bile on the internet put together, so it's laughable when absolute nobodies are acting like they know better than the GOAT of Leinster rugby. If anything, they are the ones who need to shut up and actually read what he said instead of getting triggered and throwing their toys out of the pram.

Correct. Defence wins matches, that's why Nienaber was recruited by Leinster as we needed to step that aspect of our team to the next level to win those close games that we were losing, and the South African's reputation as a defence guru is unmatched in world rugby. Which is precisely what O'Driscoll was referring to when he said that Nienaber is primarily known as defence oriented coach as opposed to Lancasters attacking mindset. This is not remotely controversial, which is why the outrage over his comments are baffling. I also agree that JN will undoubtedly return to the Springbok fold for the next World Cup. @@peterwomersley

If you are going to dish it out then it's all fair game. He has painted the Leinster fans in a bad light a number of times down the years as if every club doesn't have some bad eggs. And he was divisive and showed a lack of class with his remarks after last year's final. It wasn't necessary, he had won the cup...

@@johngallagher2007 What exactly did he 'dish out' and what remarks did he make after last years final? All I heard was him giving credit to what a good side Leinster are. The booing showed a total lack of class from Leinster fans. I expected more from them. ROG was an Irish legend in his playing days and he's got 2 champions cups in 4 seasons. Whether you're a fan of his or not, he has done a huge amount for Irish rugby.

He made reference to the behaviour of Leinster fans in his post match interview with RTE. He also made remarks about Leinster not respecting them when they tried to get use of the stadium for a corporate room, which was nothing within Leinster's control or influence. That was up to EPCR or Aviva. He referenced James Ryan disrespecting their captain at the coin tose by not looking him in the eye. Maybe Ryan was just nervous or distracted? And that is just some examples from one game. Also in circumstances where mind games were not required as thet had won the cup. The dogs in the street know that their is an anti Leinster feeling amongst Munster fans, particularly it seems Cork people, going back since the H-Cup inception, about us being arrogant and having marbles in our mouths. I am a Leinster fan by the way of Dublin working class background who was in Landsdowne in 99 cheering in Ulster, cheered on Munster in their glory years and have great admiration love listening to a good few Munster players, including probably at the top of my list Quinny amongst other legends like POC, Zebo, Earls etc but ROG being a legend is neither here nor there. There are plenty of Irish legends that have won multiple champions cups, including Irish coaches such as McCall and of course Cullen. I hope this explains it, aside from the fact that a good portion of the booing was just hilarious crack. I was at the match.
