Socketed CPUs should totally make a comeback. A few weeks ago I was performing RAM upgrades on a rebranded MSI barebones laptop (MSI builds them without RAM and Storage, some entity buys a large amount, adds the missing components, slaps a sticker with their own brand and sells them). I was surprised to find that the CPU was socketed. It had a pretty decent 1st-gen i5. I could not find any info on compatible CPUs ( and they are expensive to source where I live) so I could not try to upgrade that, but it still was nice to see

yea, I wish they would of kept the socket cpu's for laptops, def give you more options.

not use to say mb anymore lol...

You can bypass the security by shorting a couple pins on the security chip. There are guides online. I’ve unlocked the security on several T series models including the T41.

@@DLMtechgarage ok search for the site with title “[SOLVED] Remove BIOS and Supervisor Password from Lenovo ThinkPad Laptops” The page talks about the T430, etc., but the method is the same. I’m looking for the other web page I found on the T4x with pics and similar steps. It’s tricky to get right, but it does work. I’ve unlocked 6 IBM/Lenovo laptops this way.

@@donzhu4996 i popped a 256gb msata drive in via an adapter. Works fine but i've got a noisy fan and need to replace it.

If your time is worth more than hardware, as it is for myself. I would just do a fresh ssd and a new copy of windows 10. Screw wasting time unlocking the password. I will state for the record if you do windows 10. Modern games will be unplayable due to the instruction set that is in the pentium M. Windows 7 and windows vista are useless for internet as internet explorer reached obsolescence this year. I have a 2009 Dell Vostro core 2 duo with ddr2 Ram. I use it for construction job site use only. It wont even cloud game. If you do want it to game you will want to create a secondary drive being usb with linux. However take caution the age of this laptop using USB 1.0 is paralyzing and slow. So if you have a 1 TB ssd drive you will want to create a seperate partition specifically for linux unbutu. The best free ware for partitioning and creating a new drive I use macrium.

I agree, time is def worth money, I do this mostly as a hobby and for fun, tinkering around with stuff like this after work can be relaxing. Def appreciate the info.

@@DLMtechgarage with a fresh ssd, and a new operating system. The new operating system install should erase the existing password, and the laptop will recognize that a new OS install is an administrator function. Great thing about amazon is if that doesn’t work you can return the hardware and say it doesn’t work, or isnt compatible.

@@boating2strokenovice726 I tried that and still could not get pass the bios lock, looked online and the boards are dirt cheap like $10. might go that option. seems silly to invest in such an ancient machine but the speaks are pretty decent for a portable retro pc for the games I like to play.

@@DLMtechgarage old computers are great even if they cant game. Like I said I use mine for construction sites to beat up and if it breaks no loss to me, versus taking my HP Omen gaming laptop to work and breaking that and then Im out $1000. Old laptops have their use, You can still use them for music production, tuning the ecu of your car, etc. They just dont game well in windows because DX11 and DX12 needed particular instruction sets from the CPU that these older cpus dont have.

@@boating2strokenovice726 I go old school with them old computers like DX 7 and 8 and older. I keep my main rig for the newer stuff but love the classic.
