At the age of ten or eleven years , William O. Douglas decided to learn and swim at the YMCA pool because it was only two or three feet deep at the shallow end. He had an aversion to the water but he felt comfortable when he paddled with his new water wings in the water. One day he went to the pool when no one else was there. He was waiting for others to come. Then there came a big bruiser of a boy who picked Douglas and ducked him into the deep end. He landed in a sitting position, swallowed water and went at once to the bottom. Though he was saved, his fear of water intensified after this misadventure.

His experience of drowning at the YMCA pool had a very deep impact on Douglas. He became extremely terrorised and fearful of death. He had experienced both the sensation of dying and the terror that fear of it can produce

The misadventure experienced by the writer of the chapter Mr Douglas inside the water was just like , firstly he was thinking that he would easily come out of the pool by applying pressure on his legs and move upwards , but it results nothing. Douglas felt that he won't be able to come out after so many attempts and he was also very tired, his legs were also hanged like death weights. (All he experienced was the terror/fear of water)

william dougles went to ymca pool to remove his fear of water (swimming). William dougles was totally filled with fear to swim lonely .So he used to swim with someone . One day, william was waiting for someone to swim with , at at time a bulky man come and push william dougles to pool with 9 feet depth but acoording to him 9 feet deapth equals to 90 feet .His fear of water starts but he thought when he reaches bottom of the pool he jump high to come out of river.But a coindence happen when he reached at the bottom of the pool and jumped high he couldn't able to reach outside the river.He doesn't able to breath as his body fill up with water. Due to his fear his legs were fell so heavy .Than he again tried to came out of pool but again failed .His fear was increasing and he left at the bottom of river.On that day william dougles do not eat food and his fear of water increasing .He stoped to go to fishing , boating etc

As he was thrown suddenly into the water by someone and he couldn't swim, he started drowing. A sudden realization of being thrown into the pool did not make him lose his wits immediately. Although frightened, he thought of a trick to come up to the surface but couldn't execute it successfully. He paincked and feel suffocated by the water. His sense-perceptions gave way, his heart pounded loudly, his limbs became paralayzed with fear, his mind become dizzy and his lungs ached as he gulped water while making desperate attempts to come out of the water. Finally, he lost all his strength and willingness to keep struggling and blacked out. The near death experience of drowing had a very srong impact on his psychology. He was deeply perturbed and shaken by the whole experience.

The misadventure William Douglas speaks about that the YMCA swimming pool when he was about ten or eleven years old.. A big bully of a boy threw Douglas into the deep end of the pool when no one was around As douglas realised that he was drowning he made several attempts to save himself but all in vain. Finally he felt that he would die and became unconscious.

Douglas goes to the swimming pool when no one else is there. He sits there waiting for someone to come. A stoutly built boy comes there and throws him into deep water. This is the misadventure Douglas speaks about in which he narrowly escaped death.
