Best Smoke on the Water solo tutorial out there. You included the subtleties that define Blackmore's magic - sounds good, sounds right.
I ABSOLUTELY love how the pickguard on your guitar merges with the green screen, what a vivid scene

First off I want to thank you for that. Second aside from being a very gifted guitarist you also are a brilliant teacher. I'm a novice guitarist but when I try to learn for me what seems like a complex solo even if I don't get it I find I learn many things along the way. I bought that album back in 73. That was my first 33. Thanks again brother.
You have done a stellar job on this. It is rare when a lesson talks about the importance of individual notes length of play etc. very good. it really helps
Literally This Is The Best SOTW Solo Tutorial 🔥 Thank You! ❤
Freak you should start a class on how to make a guitar lesson video THE RIGHT WAY for almost every other KZreadr who does guitar lessons on here. Seriously your video lessons are straight forward and to the point and clearly explained WITHOUT all the unnecessary B.S and showing off by showing a particular part then for no reason whatsoever start doing some blazing fast scale or pentatonic run or fiddle fruck with a out of tune guitar 10 times in the video.

LOL thanks bro! I just make these lessons the way I would want to learn if I was watching. Show me the tabs (the correct ones!), slow down the phrasing, and point out any little inflections that the tab doesn't necessarily convey easily. I also really don't have patience for videos where the instructor walks you slowly through every single note "okay, now play the 8th fret of the g string, followed by the 9th fret, and then the 11th fret..." That drives me crazy. People think it might be more work for the instructor, but it's not. Taking the time to properly tab it and do the video editing I do, probably takes 5x longer. Okay, I'll shut up now, and thank you! LOL :)

The irony is that I've learned a lot if licks from PDX's videos because they are shorter and straight to the point, but I'm still thinking they are somewhat short and I'm waiting for more video, but everything has already been explained sufficiently.

@@djay6651 I think it's that we've become numb to other people's ramblings and nonsense that when someone like Freak does a lesson video it seems short.

Such a Killer Solo...Thank you so much PDX Man !!!
Always loved this solo thanks for the time you put in to this. I hope I can find more of your work because my 89 Korean squier strat sounds great on the old school
great job this is one of the very best solos of all time !
Really good lesson. The instruction on the technique nuance is very helpful, including the "how to do this without a whammy bar" tip. You're a great teacher and player. Many thinks!
Dude, you play the solo better than anyone I've heard! Excellent!

Great tone and great lesson as well Sir! I am a Strat lover and green is my fav so your special Strat is a beautiful thing to me. Thank you for taking the time to zero in on the correct dynamics and phrasings of these classic solo's and sharing with us. At 60 I'm really enjoying these and my wife is like"how are you learning these so quickly all of a sudden, did you make a deal with the devil?". Haha!

Hey thanks Scott, I appreciate the very nice comment! The green on the Strat is pretty divisive based on the comments around it... people love it or hate it LOL (in person, the pickguard looks iridescent and very vivid... camera doesn't do it justice). Your wife comment had me laugh too. Keep pickin' bro. :)
thank you sir for your kind sharing technique
Very good lesson . I like the way you play it .Thanks
Thank you. Unlike some other videos, your tab is raised slightly so when you hit pause to practice it, you can still see it. Nice job.
Way to go Davey. Nice lesson. Love the sound.

fantastic man really
I have to learn this solo for my cover band. I have to say first, I'm not that good with leads in general (getting better though), but I have to thank you for the perfect lesson. I still have a couple spots to smooth out, but with your help and after only a week, I'm able to limp my way through it now. A couple more days or a week of practice on this and I should be ready to play it at our show next month. You've made things really easy to understand and having it played normally and slowed made it easier to hear and see how everything fit together. Thanks, Dude!
Very nice, thanks for posting this video! 🎉
Very good tutorial, also a good idea to divide it into sections.
AHA! I knew you got the green pickguard so you could key it out and add clouds and flames! Awesome looking vid Dave. Top notch playing too.... So many riffs I used to know... Thanks for the lesson bro \m/

Hi, just now I heard. Real fire! Blackmore played many versions. Every concert is different. Specially listened to from the album. Everything is exact. Smoke from ears!!! 😂
love it this is the most accurate version I would say cos I have tried many before this is 99.9 % close
Thanks, dude
I learned this from another video (no names)... but after trying to play it with the actual song, I came here to fix what I was doing wrong... Thanx !!
best lesson on the KZread for actual tone rather heavily loaded with guitar effects pedals

Hi Dave ! Nice to christen the stratocaster on probably the most iconic riff/solo in rock music history !!!! Sounds fantastic and the guitar looks awesome ! I saw Deep Purple live several times in the mid70s. Great shows of course, but you may be surprised to hear that the organ of Jon Lord was the feature of each show! Not Ritchie Blackmore !!!! A lot of bands had organs playing in the shows, but as rock got harder, it faded away ! Nowadays rock music is so guitar centered looking back Ritchie is the star since he played guitar. In reality Jon Lord was just as much , if not more, the feature musician of Deep Purple.

Hi Bob thanks for the cool comment. That doesn’t surprise me. Jon is a great player too. Although I admit sometimes I wish they would lower him in the mix so we could hear Richies rhythm guitar better :)

Thanks dude! Yeah I had one uploaded yesterday, but then it was brought to my attention that there was a 2 second part of the video where it went completely white while I was talking/playing. I went back and fixed it and that's why I uploaded it again. I lost about 500 views by doing this, but I felt it was more important to give people the fixed video. :)

Thanks! I actually felt funny playing the vibrato like that, as it's not how I would do it either... but, I wanted to try and do it like Richie :)
You actually play it more like the recording in your description in the lesson it's not a continuous blur of notes there more staccato
That tone needs a little bit more dirt in it.

That's fair... the Helix tends to smooth the tone out a bit, vs a real amp :)
