Here is more with the chief engineer with regards to other engine questions: kzread.info/dash/bejne/gJl10tVrmqedfZM.html
I'd like to look at that guy in the eyes and ask what they changed to stop the bottom end failures. Looks to me they used the same bottom end. Hope they drilled the holes in the mains right for lubrication.

James Penner I hope they now have a dowel or spline setup for the cam gears
Thank you for giving us the complete presentation, it's always good to hear from the horses mouth sort of speak. By first blush it looks like they have changed a lot of things on the gen 3. I wish Ram would come clean about the bottom end failures in the gen 2 engines. These issues where primarily on the '14-'15 engines, changing the oil spec's so you could run Rotella T-6 oil seemed to help. Something that everyone needs to keep in mind. America is one of the few countries that diesel engines aren't common in automotive use. Fiat has been building diesel powered cars for decades & have millions of them on the road all over the world, they aren't new to this game. Time will tell with the Gen-3. The first Duramax "LB-7" had fuel dilution issues which wiped out bottom ends when they first came out. Gm redesigned the Duramax and it has earned a great reputation ever since. Hopefully the Gen-3 eco will do the same. I'll be ordering one as soon as Ram opens the order books.

I thought by giving you the full presentation it might settle a lot of questions without a ton of back and forth. You literally have the same info I have.
No news on how they plan to fix all the spun bearings and bottom end failures? I'm gonna steer clear of this one.

How is grey a carry over part when the low pressure EGR is brand new? Plus the media release states the piston and crank is different. Yet the chart has them as grey or a carry over part.
Did you ever ask the question about bottom end bearing changes? From the forum posts and a video on KZread by DG Pro Tech (guy seems to be very knowledgeable), that seems to have been the worst issue with these engines. The pressed on cam gear (which is apparently a quite common manufacturing process) slipping seemed very infrequent. You’d probably have to just ask if there were any bottom end changes at all or is it a complete carry over. Otherwise, if you reference previous bottom end problems they wouldn’t answer the question as it would be tantamount to admitting to problems. Curious that the crank and rotating assembly were grey so no change.

I've asked about that issue. There has been no change to that part of the engine. I've heard from many people who think this is a major problem and then from others who don't think there is a problem at all. Hard to draw a conclusion. Here is more with the chief engineer about this engine: kzread.info/dash/bejne/gJl10tVrmqedfZM.html
I'm a Chrysler fanboy from wayback, with that said I would love to ask this Italian diesel engineer that has sooooo much experience with this type of engine, why did fca go through all the processes involved in r&d and still put it up for sale to the public, they had to know it was junk before it went out of development. The only evidence I need to offer is the fact they RE DESINED it. Boom, drop the mike, nothing else need be said.
My main concern is the injection pump runs off the passenger side camshaft and is subject to failure which as everyone knows grenades the valves on that head. Some say it's a rare problem, but I don't trust statistics, they can be manipulated. The injector pump needs to run off the crankshaft PERIOD! The excess stress put upon the valve timing system can cause it to fail and just because the sprocket is still in place, then technically the sprocket didn't fail, but the lopsided stress it adds did cause the timing system to fail. Take a look at the new gm duramax in line six,... that the way a true medium duty diesel engine should be designed.
Not sure about the eco diesel. I must say i’m not a big fan of italian automotive dependability but time will tell. One thing i really like that dodge is doing is offering it on every trim level. That is smart.

Yes, they may be revised or new parts. That doesn’t mean they can’t be used on the 2nd gen. Example the 2020 taillights can be used on the prior generations. People are doing conversion for the swap.

Changing the oil specs won't fix that deliberate design flaw, when will these ginormous corporations learn to see long term and not just their next quarterly report? You can't fix stupid, and that's what they think we are and if we continue to buy their junk, they're right.
ASK HIM HOW DO WE ALL KEEP OUR GEN 2 ENGINES FROM BLOWING UP? DO WE MAINTAIN RPM LEVELS BELOW 3000 RPM AND CHANGE OIL EVERY 6000 MILES? WE NEED NO-BULL TECHNICAL ANSWERS...FROM FCA/VM MOTORI.please & thanks.

Wow, Thick Accent. I think I heard him say something about redesigned EGR , which on the other Gen. Motors wasn't to good since it introduced Alot of Soot build up into the intake. ( I just watched a guy clean his EGR on an older 2015 eco diesel and he was pretty pissed off with all the soot inside his intake)

The chart for new and old parts is questionable. Grey is labeled as "carry over" parts. Yet later on in the video they clearly show new injectors, new piston, new turbocharger. I think the guy misspoke.
