Why this Lake wasn't protected and turned into a National Park in the early 1900s is just a blemish in our history as a country. Several presidents at that time saw the need to preserve - but Tahoe should have been at the top of their list.

National parks ruin the places with excessive traffic and development too. Wilderness designation, keeping out all mechanization including such as bicycles is far more effective, much of the Sierras is so designated, you have to hike for days to get to the best places and it's that great filter, the lack of easy access that's the key. Tahoe hasn't been anywhere near as pristine as the backcountry since the first road to it.

Tahoe Keys is what caused the degradation(An ecological disaster) and also allowed a great place for invasive species like the weeds. Everyone knows it. Wall it off from the lake. Boats with oil leak into the water, you can see the weeds follow the boat routes. The old marsh where Tahoe Keys is today, filtered the water. There are no two sides to this. Tahoe Keys and the HOA are the issue.

I guess just tear down the 1200 million dollar homes in the keys. And let it go back to a swamp.

I don't understand the claim about property rights? The owners own the land not the lake water ? The Keys is ground zero for spreading noxious weeds throughout Lake Tahoe

Has the overdevelopment also brought in excessive septic systems that "fertilize" the plant growth? We have seen this in lakes in Michigan. Massive plant overgrowth after the lake is overdeveloped by vacation homes.

As a local fisherman here in south lake I cannot tell you how great this is for us. Way to put the keys on blast. Unfortunately hasn’t been easy to get anything by them as they run as an HOA. I’ve caught 8 pound large mouth bass in the keys it’s a breeding ground for ALL warm water inland species. WALLING IT OFF IS THE RESPONSIBILITY OF OUR GENERATION FOR THE FUTURE OF THE LAKE. Exponential damage. Getting worse by the day

Property rights OVER nature's ORIGINAL ones? Seriously? .....who had the power to take those rights away. Who's the representative and how did they address the check when that land was owned by natives and mother earth?? Just cus its land and lake there doesn't mean it's unclaimed land to buy and destroy... it should b walled off while any cleaning or whatever is done cus they messed up so bad that something needs to b done it finished-but why risk the whole huge area connected to the lake far far away??

Realtors and developers control too much power in this country and nature is suffering everywhere, as a result. The Lake Tahoe I knew from 30 years ago is already gone and will never come back. Allowing noisy, reveling visitors to come by the millions and use this place without paying anything, encourages destructive behavior and leaves local communities burdened with the bill to repair and clean up after them. These visitors leave mountains of trash, fill the air and water with vehicle and boat emissions, trample forests and meadows, and choke the basin with traffic. Those who say humanity has no impact on the planet are complete morons.

ABC10 is fantastic. i think the best thing to do is to emminent domain the place, and any other destroyed wetlands. the rich are much more hardy than our ecology. more people rely on tahoe than a few thousand families. dont build a house in a wetland. dont build a house in a lake bed. it shouldnt be our problem that they will be put into a harder position.

Well said! IMHO the rights of landowners ends when their actions impact the greater good/health of the environment. The original development shouldn't have been allowed. These folks boats from outside shouldn't have been allowed, and the invasive species, goldfish, large mouth bass, need to be fished out as much as possible. I had no idea this disaster was unfolding in our pristine lake.💔

It wouldn't be the 1st time I've seen homeowners destroy a lake Because they don't want aquatic vegetation around their property.. aquatic vegetation like millfoil won't hurt the lake at all it's the people that ruin everything

I don't trust either side. The property owners cannot be trusted to act in the Lake's best interest (as made VERY CLEAR when the property owner with the L.L.Bean _"Keep Tahoe Blue"_ jacket emphasized his "property rights" as if his property extended out into the Lake). The Sierra Club has their heart in the right place, but they get *irrationally emotional about everything.* They oppose green sustainable high-density development because they are anti-everything. Ugh.

Well, no boats going in/out of the Nursery for invasive species(Tahoe Keys), that would reduce the spread of the weeds/Zebra mussels(Not here yet) Asian Clam etc. Wall it off from the open lake seems wisest.

With so many computer simulations and tests that we trained Personnel military, or whether for the government or private sector whether it's for commercial aircraft pilots or person aircraft bpilot's we have boating simulation, jet simulation ,even space travel simulation. Why do you need to go to the lake and actually put chemicals in the water when you can do a simulation or you can have a computer programs that can almost without any error produce data that is is closest to the real thing as possible? Scoop some of that water out go put it in the pool somewhere and then you could run your tests. People want to go and terraform Mars but we can't terraform ourself a river science project here on Earth??🙄😒
