He sure did. In my opinion it was them pushing him to lead after Steve Perry. But he didn't want that. But I believe that pressure was what caused him to go overboard with his drug use. Was so glad that he got clean and sober. He can sing Steve Perry songs just as well as Steve, actually better and while drumming as well. After he was fired from Journey he got sober and joined Hardline and Revolutionary Saints. Neal played in Hardline as well as Dean. They were still teenagers at the time. So when Dean had to have back surgery and couldn't tour with Revolutionary Saints and Neal asked him to join them with their tour in Vegas and that was great because he knows all the songs and can sing like Perry. Then Jeff De Sota, then Pernell. I was so glad to hear Neal had rehired Dean. That was the second best decision he made since post Perry. Also it was Dean who figured out what was wrong with Arnel. I listened to a few songs and said OMG he sounds terrible and the rumors started about him being fired. And Dean could have left it and let Arnel get fired, but he's not that kind of person. Dean showed them how the front setup is causing Arnel to sing out of sync and off key so they listened to Dean and changed the front end stuff and now Arnel is back singing again. He will never out sing Dean. Dean is the closest person to sing Steve Perry on the planet. So I'm so glad he got sober and is back with Journey. Arnel sings most of the songs and Dean sings the songs that Dean sings better than Arnel.

I have to mention, my band opened for his band(Wild Dogs) back in the early eighties in San Francisco. Well, he just blew my mind! By far the best drummer of any of the other bands I saw in the music scene back then!! I knew he was special and in time would break out and be discovered! I thought he was going to have Neil Peart or Simone Phillips status for sure in his future. Did not turn out that way I guess. I consider him sort of a forgotten monster drummer like Mark Craney. Deen, excellent exercise and thank you!
Deus abençoe este incrível baterista!
Thank you so much for this 🙏 it brings so many memories
MONSTER!
Un baterista fuera de serie para su época!
mike portnoy take several technics of dean even the drumsolo is in some way the same
Listen to him on the wild dogs album..heavy…think he was only 17
I love Deen!! One of my favorite drummers. Maybe my favorite. I’m a guitarist and his parts are so musical and intense that I zero in in his riffs and fills more than the shredders he plays with!!
awesome!! thanks man
Amazing!!!
that nose!!! wooohh he definitely did something with it!

His side of the story-he said Ozzy paid for his nose job. I think I believe it, in that if it really bothered him, he would have fixed it after Bad English had their first hit.
00:29 sounds like "Judgement Day" groove of Angra song from album Rebirth.

Awesomeness Deen, jut like your singing voice. Your the best
Sou fã dele, batera do Journy e gravou com excelentes guitarristas como Tony Macalpine, Marty Friedman, Joey Tafolla e Greg Hower , eu ficava solfejando as suas linhas de batera.

Great baterist...!!!
Because I don't have the stamina that Deen has, I keep the spring tension so loose that; the spring tension is just enough to bring the beater back.
Nice music
THIS IS INSANELY TIGHT. No quantization or modeling, kids!
Fantastic drumming!! His skill doesn't sound dated like some pros from the 1980's. His skills here stand the test of time! His singles around the kit are dope!

Yeah, we could talk about guys who sound "dated" by todays standards. Would make a great drum pod cast topic. Would like to hear you who you think is kinda dated sounding. Got to admit I saw Simon P. playing with Gavin Harrison on YT, and Simon was kinda of dated I felt. This tape is old too, and I still can't play as good as him!

I wish this was better quality, but I can see/hear his footwork at around 95 seconds in? kzread.info/dash/bejne/lYqMtZSqc6jAe7g.htmlsi=BJgViwq_zby76HEN
This historical Deen is the legend He for a real not this u tube bull shit
Awesome
I always thought those were cymbal chokes in the King's Cup intro. Doesn't sound like a splash cymbal on the recording.
Plus his singing too!!

Hey kid, in 2018 you're going to be at the top of your game and getting better. I know, sounds crazy right!!
leggenda
I thought of some of these long ago...but I never worked on them. Admittedly, no imagination. Kept it simple and played with cover bands :)
italians the best !

This guy is cool.
The video not so good, but luckily the sound quality isn't too bad. Always good watching and learning from a Professional drummer.
Bass player is a beast.
Would’ve loved to see a drum between Deen and Rod Morgenstein

Who os the basist?
Was this where Tonny Royster Jr.'s drum solo came from when he was 12???
Cacophony...\m/
Adjust the tracking please. LOL. very cool. thanks for sharing this gem.
Sorry, who is the bassist?? David Ellefson? Crazy good !!
Que tipazooo jajaj
Oh, did he mention he can outsing anyone???
I find kind of funny that he does inverted doubles on the bass drum when playing faster. It works pretty well for him.

Is that dustin diamond?
The bassist eats Myungs for breakfast.
Caramba tem umas partes que o Aquiles Priester usou nos CDs do Angra😅
Por acaso o Mike Portnoy se inspirou nele, ou ele se inspirou no Portnoy??
Grande italiano!!
