I had the honor to know Jeff as a friend, met Jeff in 9 th grade Sherman oaks California. Played battle of the bands against his band 1968 at Millikan Jr. high we became friends all through high school. He basically skipped 12th grade when he got the gig with Sonny and Cher. Still keep in touch with Steve Porcaro from time to time. Growing up with the Porcaro’s family was awesome. I’m 70 years young.Jeff would have been 69 this coming April 1st, can you imagine what he could have accomplished. Greatest drummer of all time.I have one memory of Jeff’s high school band Rual stillife, they were playing fire by Hendrix he looked at me and saw me standing on the side and waved me up, to fill in for him. Anyone who knew Jeff knew his hands would cramp up on him. So I finished fire and I felt his sticks in my back, he said I’m better now Kevin. It happened again in 1973 in Pasadena California with Steely Dan .don’t misunderstand I wasn’t there, close friends went to see them.

I understand. I'm 55 and the only people I regularly talk to from my hometown are the guys I played in bands with in high school. It's the intensity of love for music at that age that binds one to those people. I'm the only one out of my friends who pursued music beyond college, and I work behind the scenes. Jeff Porcaro was a beast of a drummer for sure. R.I.P.

Aw hell Kevin, I had no idea Jeff(yes, the best American drummer of his generation) was from Sherman Oaks. Really blows my mind a bit. My family lived there just a couple years behind you. My older sister went to Millikan Jr. in ‘74. We lived up on Longridge, and my uncle Jim Di Pasquale was(and still is) scoring films over on Woodman. I guess there were a lot of serious and influential musicians in Sherman Oaks back then. I loved it there. It was a great place to grow up. …even if I was stuck in the cursed zoo called the Dixie Canyon Avenue school. Yikes! 😆😆 That’s really amazing how close you were to Jeff in those super early years. It must have been a real trip watching him take off so brilliantly. 😎👍👍

Jeff Porcaro was the living embodiment of the term 'class act'. Not only was he one of the all-time greatest drummers in modern music (his catalogue is, in my view at least, unparalleled by another other drummer. Hal Blaine may have played on more tracks, but Jeff could play any style, on any record, and he did, on thousands of records), but he was also an example to us all when it came to being a great human. Always there for other people, utterly hilarious by all accounts, humble yet with clear boundaries, just an all-round fantastic person to be around. He is so sorely missed by so many to this day, and I'm sure he will continue to be for many years to come. I know I miss him..

August 5th, 1992 the world was robbed of one of the most brilliant, musical, gifted drummers who ever lived...A Father, husband, brother who made the most of his very short time on this earth...He lives in all those incredible songs that he poured in soul into...And though we still have many phenomenal drummers with us today doing amazing things, there will never be another Jeff Porcaro...Never!!

In one of his interviews he said he never performed a drum solo in a concert because he felt his job was just to keep time and nothing else. Pretty humble for the amount of talent he had.

A master drummer and creator of iconic drum beats. This video dedication is a must see for all musicians. Jeff left us too soon. He is a major influence in the lives of many musicians. Jeff covered a lot of ground and showed his prowess on many an album. Thanks for sharing this video. Keep it circulating indefinitely. Cheers!

I believe Jeff had a great attitude towards playing the drums, just the way he spoke about learning and playing. The message I got from him was that you don't have to master everything a great drummer can do, just master the things that make you a great drummer.

What a feel! This man has serious sole! Not to leave out his brother, because he jams the bass with just as much feel. What a musical family! They left us early but they live on forever!

As a gift from some1 I knew, I received Toto' very 1st album with the album cover itself, pressed on2 the album. The design of the cover was on the actual album itself, & I enjoyed every note from the band, especially the drummer. He has done studio work with Steely Dan, Boz Scaggs, ( hope I'm spelling that right), & countless others, his style is 1 all about himself. So clean & precise on the studio cut "Aja" that I named my 1st born daughter after that piece 4 months b4 she was born. Heaven ( if he had a relationship with GOD) is flooded with serious musicians, jammin daily, @ least I choose 2 think so.

I just picked up my sticks again after trying to learn a guitar tune my Dad knows--- I play Jeff's Regal Tip series for their balance. Just working on that triplet thing. 60bpm right now--- way slower than he tracked it! Otherwise, it won't happem. 🤣

What I would like to know is how does a person use heel up and slide technique when sitting SO LOW!!!!!!!!!!!! He developed it as a kid who couldn't reach the pedals but when he was older he SAT SO LOW and still was able to approach the pedals that way!!!!!!!!!! JUST STRANGE TO ME!!!!!!!!!
