Dedham on the River Stour - DJI Mini 2 - Aerial Videography

A wonderfully sunny late morning spent with friends and fellow drone operators in what is considered to be at the very heart of 18th-century landscape painter John Constable country. Dedham is a village within the borough of Colchester in northeast Essex, England, on the River Stour and the border of Essex and Suffolk.

BEAUTIFUL video, so I just subscribed! I live in Colchester myself, I'd love to take my Air 2S to Dedham for a flight (I'm a beginner, by the way). Did you have to get special permission, because as much as I'd love to fly there, doesn't Colchester Council's (severe) rules forbid it? Also, do you have the A2 Certificate of Competency, and have you found it to be useful? I only have the basic Operator ID from the government's online test, but I was considering getting the A2CoC if it improves my chances of flying legally in Colchester 🙂

Thank you for the comment. Although run by the Dedham Vale & River Stour Project no special permissions were either sought or I believe required. We just rolled up, stayed out of the way of people and just flew and didn't get bothered :) What i will say, in case you didn't know, is we all had Mini 2 drones which have significantly different regulations attached to flying than your Air 2S. Your drone, because of it's weight, falls into the A1 category which requires you to stay a distance of 150m from people and 50m from buildings which restricts your flights quite a bit. The Mini 2 & 3, being 249g have no such requirements meaning we can fly as close to people and building as we wish. Check out the CAA Drone Code on their website. Still possible to fly quite legally at Dedham Vale though but always being mindful of thses seperation distances.
