I have a concrete base for mine. It hasn't tipped over in the past 15+ years I've had it.

Did you fasten the windmill to the base and if so how? Or did you actually "set" the windmill legs into the concrete and let it set up? Thanks

This is a pretty commonly marketed yard ornament, the 8 ft. windmill and is handled by many companies that put their brand on it. It would be interesting and purposeful to see one of these pre-fab varieties modified, or available with an actual pump on it, either piston, or rotary. I have yet to find any examples of what I am mentioning, other than home made types. Let me know, of any links to exactly what I'm referring to, thanks.

I have a similar windmill, my instructions only tell me the parts that came with it... I pretty much have it together, except for the split pins. It came with 3. I have one on the front of the blades, I know one attaches to the tiller after I put it through the master head at the bottom. But I’m stumped on the third one. I’d appreciate any help you can give me. This was my Mother’s Day present from my kids and we’re trying to get it up while we got a nice breeze here in AZ. It’s still hot, but we’ll take a breeze.

My brother bought a John Deere 6ft version for my mother's yard some years ago and I know firsthand how strong winds will blow these things over as I was always the one who ended up having to fix the darned thing. The stakes that the manufacturers of these windmills provide are worthless, especially when the ground is soggy. What I eventually did with hers was drive 4 pieces of rebar into the ground at the 4 corners of the windmill and secured everything with medium gauge steel wire.

How long was the rebar driven into the ground?

  • @ReneeNme

@@alcopower5710 I went with 2 foot per corner. You could probably get away with 18". Drive them into the ground at an angle toward the center of the windmill leaving 4 to 5 inches of rebar exposed above the ground. Another good piece of advice would be to temporarily remove the fan and store it if you know a day with high winds is in the weather forecast. 👍

You don’t need to know because my mom had that kind for 15 years and a few times a year it gets a grease job and it’s still spinning away with no issues

Lots of grease. It has a fitting on the side that you hook a grease gun to. Did you use it? That’s the only thing I can think of to help.

Just extra they threw in. I had 4 extra small washers not mentioned in the instructions anywhere and ended up with a few left over additional bolts and nuts too. (Some of the bolts were daggy)
