I understand this comment is in good faith and good intention BUT it is not good to continuously call people converts/reverts. These two reverted so long ago they’ve been Muslim longer than many Muslims in the comments section have even been alive. Not to mention, all the sahaba were converts, but we don’t call them converts. We just call them Muslims because that’s what they are. Furthermore, white is classically defined as: Middle East, North Africa, and Europe. Also, there are European countries that have been Muslim majorities or have had significant Muslim populations and cultural influence for several centuries: Russia, Turkey, Croatia, Bulgaria, Albania, Macedonia, Kosovo, Montenegro, Bosnia, and even Spain (although Spain’s inquisition really put a damper on things there). We need to stop dividing Muslims into “born” or “revert” and we ESPECIALLY need to stop dividing Muslims based on western conceptualization of “race” because Islam forbids it. And Allah knows best. Respectfully, I also appreciate the "incredible choice of guests" on Blogging Theology. However it's not the "choice of guests" which will necessarily influence me to accept Islam. If Islam is Truth, then God Himself is able to open up my heart to accept this truth. I respect many of the scholars, but emphasis on knowledge alone seems to neglect the significance of the psychological and emotional factors which support our faith. That's my perspective so I could be wrong. Respectfully from Florida USA

Lastly in this segment we believe that guidance, despite being towards truth, is from god. If you believe in him then i believe one shud ask him sincerely. I definitely feel there's a revival of scholarship. Never forget how intelligent and resourceful Palestinian are/were and how they've been targeted willfully to ensure there would be no progress in the ummah.

Most muslims from post colonial countries have been beaten down and subjugated for many decades to bow down to Western culture and white supremacy. Thanks to you Paul and your wonderful guests For bringing up important issues like these. . Thank you for your wonderful uplifting work.

As a Middle Eastern I have always strongly felt what you are saying. People here have internalized colonialism, western thought and traditions though, for the most part, they aren't aware of it. Thank you for shedding light on this. I really wish more Muslims would understand this.

The most effective way to convince someone of something is to make them think that they came up with it themselves. That is how Western propaganda mostly works, it uses brainwashing techniques to sow little seeds in people's minds, which, provided they are consistently provided with the necessary fertilizers, will grow into fully formed ideas. It is done on a massive scale through Hollywood and the music industry!

The Islamic revival already happened. It happened in the secular Middle East in the 1970s. The 2nd revival is taking place in the modern Western pro LGBTQ society we live in. But try as you may, you will not defeat and overcome the West. The opposite will happen. Throughout history whenever the old and the modern clashed the modern always won out.

I used to wonder 💭 why western academia hadn’t stumbled upon the truths in Islam ☪️. But now it all makes sense.

Probably because the Quran is insanely easy to disprove as factual. Muslims used to think the Sun orbited Earth and that’s in the Quran. He placed the moon and Sun in their orbits, meaning around Earth, which they taught until Copernicus.

I am Indonesian who has been brought up with the "Islamic traditionalist paradigm", and has had the opportunity to learn at a UK university where I learned about the source of knowledge of the Western intellectual tradition. I had that dilemma when I started doubting my own research because I was not in fact confident in the method and had lost its meaning. I've read the works of Nasr and it really inspired me to re-learn about Islam in a traditional way. this discussion really articulates my previous concern perfectly. I also feel that many Indonesian Islamic universities mostly follow Western paradigms, which makes me think that traditional schools should be saved at all costs!

You see we have problems when they say you Muslims have taken faith as the basis of all knowledge, which is not really true, knowledge is the basis of our faith. Dr Lumbard , has raised a very serious issue , albeit true, of how western thought has penetrated the cultures of muslim nations. The term “coloniality” aptly describes the malaise afflicting muslim thought processes today.

The main challenge on the way to the 'decolonisation' of the Muslim mind nowadays is the deliberalisation of the Muslims who think being liberal equals being pro-LGBT, while in fact the vocabulary of even the so-called anti-liberal Muslims is full of liberal concepts. For example, the Prophet ﷺ never complained that non-Muslims are islamophobes who don't like us, while such rhetoric is accepted by the majority of contemporary Muslims. Another example is the numerous Muslims who talk about the on-going conflict in leftist anti-imperialist terms, rather than in Islamic eschatological ones. There are also Muslims who appeal to international law and international community, as if there is a source which guides Muslims to put their trust on the liberal world order. And the list goes on and on. As-salamu alaykoum.

@@lchig0 I wasn't a student of Islamic eschatological view until Oct 7 happened. My brain was wrecked until I found an explanation from Syeikh Imran Hosein. Not a lot of people could reach such spiritual height to be able to dismantle such ominous world movement. However to simply wait Mahdi arrival and not resisting is not how Muslim should act. Resistance still has to keep going.. in any way possible. Boycott, denormalization of Isnreal ties etc. To explain the whole eschatology here would only invite the misunderstanding. So I'd suggest you to go either listen to Syeikh Imran's lectures or read his main book, Jerusalem in Quran.

Dr Shadee El Masry did an entire podcast on how he mixes Hadiths and modern geopolitics as a problematic methodology not taken by majority of scholars. However, I don’t see anything unique in the eschatological sense about October 7, especially in comparison to the past century. I’d much rather prefer listening to Sami Hamdi’s political analysis where the events are part of a broader picture of Israel fast normalising ties with surrounding Arab countries to the detriment of the Palestinians.

It is the time fr bringing bak islam and its ruling system The second khaleefa Umar(may Allah be pleased with him) said "We were a humiliated people but Allah honored us with Islam.No matter how much we sought honor in other than islam,Allah would humiliate us" So the last of the Ummah will not be reformed except by what the first of it was reformed with inshaAllah

Modern iranian intellectuals are most polluted by western centered ideologies. Just look at the discussions in important universities in iran such as TEHRAN UNV, ... They are all based on secular, post modernity and western philosophy philosophy

Fascinating and very educational indeed may Allah reward you both Brother Paul and Brother Professor Joseph for your contributions. Brother professor Joseph wonderfully answered that last question in regards of tackling the mental or the epistemic colonisation. And I would like to add that when Muslim intellectual like brother Prof Joseph have brilliant Islamic project they must go head regardless of the objections coming from those in the Muslim community who unfortunately always opposes and calls such projects as Haram or Kufr and what not. Go ahead and Inshaa Allah it will be fruitful for the ummah. Jazaakallaah to you both 🌙❤️🌙

I agree with most of your opinions ; as a young student in the 90’s teachings of Shaykh Abdul Qadir As-Sufi I became liberated from this sense of not belonging and inferiority complex living in the West . The Sufi practices were liberating

I believe that people like you are the future of Islam, may God help you. _______________ Al-Mustawrid Al-Qurashi, said, “I heard the Messenger of Allah, sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, say, 'The Hour shall come with the Romans* forming the majority of the people.'” [Muslim] * Romans are Europeans and Western civilization. When Mustawrid al-Qurashee was sitting with 'Amr ibn al-'Aas, he said: "I heard the Prophet (sal-Allahu'alayhe wa sallam) say, 'The Hour will come when the Romans* will be in the majority.' 'Amr asked him, "What are you saying?" He said, "I am repeating that which I heard from the Prophet (sal-Allahu'alayhe wa sallam)." 'Amr said, "If you say this, it is true, because they have four good characteristics: (i)they are the most able to cope with tribulation, (ii) the quickest to recover after disaster and (iii)to return to the fight after disaster, and (iv) are the best as far as treating the poor, weak and orphans is concerned. They have a fifth characteristic which is very good; they do not allow themselves to be oppressed by their kings." Muslim, Kitaab al-Fitaan, 8 - 176. * Romans are Europeans and Western civilization. Ibn Katheer wrote, “This indicates that the Romans will embrace Islam at the end of time"
