“Decoloniality” and the Rise of the Right: Hindutva

Walter D. Mignolo’s Decoloniality theory is a helpful resource for culturally rightist and culturally authoritarian political movements. This is because of the tight connection Decoloniality theory posits between ‘knowledges’ or ‘cosmologies’, on the one hand, and geographical identity groups (‘ethnies’), on the other. Mignolo’s relatively hardline cultural essentialism in the epistemic sphere is congenial to writers and activists such as J. Sai Deepak, author of India That Is Bharat, who is of the Hindu Right in India.
In this talk, Anandaroop Sen places the influence of Decoloniality theory in the context of Indian politics and intellectual history. The rise of the Bharatiya Janata Party and India’s current prime minister Narendra Modi took many intellectuals and analysts by surprise. Deepak and Mignolo’s theoretical writings enable a framing of BJP politics and Hindutva more broadly as an authentic indigenous movement opposing the “coloniality of knowledge”.
Sen’s critical review essay on J. Sai Deepak’s India That Is Bharat can be found in Social Dynamics: A Journal of African Studies, vol. 49, no. 2 (special issue-‘Intellectual Decolonisation: Critical Perspectives’), pp. 376-385: www.tandfonline.com/doi/full/....

This man is a professor somewhere in South Africa. A JNU product who doesn't even know when that University was established. It was established in 1969 out of a deal that the communists had with Mrs Indira Gandhi to support her in all her political misdeeds to ensure that her grip over political power remained unchallenged and firm. Under that political deal the communists got unhidered sway over the academic institutions and govrnments media departments. The year is also notorious for the fact that communists got a major political walk over through nationalisation of banks by capturing the only source of power that was available to mount a serious challenge to their hegemony in the government through ouster of Indira. But to his credit,he admits that during his stint at JNU they were so engrossed with the role of the Left within the Major project of the Left that they never thought about any possibility of the rise of a Rightist BJP! It speaks volume about the academic output of JNU. When Berlin Wall was falling they didnt hear the distant roar! Just within 20 years of inauguration of JNU Berlin Wall fell and by 1993 Babri collapsed shattering the projects of Left whatsoever that this Professor talks about.Hindutwa had arrived with a bang settling once for all the crucial political question about ownership of India that is Bharat that was divided on religious lines between Hindus and Muslims by a colonial power. The Constitution of India failed to admit this fact unequivocally and was drawn up on a pretension as if nothing of that sort had happened, perpetuating a lie since its inception. When Sai Deepak pointed out this reality through the scholarly semantics of decoloniality he got the goat of this international cabal who are now operating from foreign shores. Overnight, they have become the ardent apologists for the Constitution and are accusing Deepak of attacking the Constitution framed by the Constituent Assembly! Holy Ghost! When Indira Gandhi tore off the Constitution in 1975 and promulgated the new one and became a dictator how many of these brave hearts mustered their courage to call her party a fascist organisation? None. Now, that party which had tore off the Constitution is now their "dense" ally and these scholars are providing that original Indian fascists the intellectual cover fire. They will talk about Kashmir, but they don't talk about Sikh genocides in Delhi. They talk about plight of minorities in India but never talk about the plight of minorities in Bangladesh and Pakistan. All these double speaks show their amazing craft of intellectual dishonesty hidden under fluffy and monochrome dialogue on islamophobia and fascism hiding the fact that one of the greatest Islamic scholars Md Iqbal was ardent admirer of Nazis and Fascists and Gandhi met in person and shook hands with Mussolini and Communists in India, under instruction from Stalin, did their errand. Don't think that I haven't read your convoluted piece in tandfonline.com. You can abuse others to your heart's content, because you are paid for that. But decoloniality is the reality of 21st century. Now, it is your choice to accept it or live in a surreal dream of creating a great Universal Islamo-commie Umma!

With due respect to Anandaroop Sen (IF HE DESERVES SOME), I read his "critical review essay" on "Sri J Sai Deepak's book India That is Bharat". At the outset Anandaroop Sen is a typical product of the left eco system's fount JNU. What can be expected of these 'products'? The very fact that he has critically reviewed - running into 10 pages - basically trying to negate everything that is opined in the book proves one fact. HE IS RATTLED. THE LIES OF THE LEFT ECO SYSTEM ARE EXPOSED. Sorry to say, he is a runaway professor (who cares for their genuineness in scholarship for, they have been selling their souls to earn two meals) somewhere in South Africa. Typical strategy of left: DENY and INSULT THE OTHERSIDE when you stand exposed. Good Luck Anandaroop Sen, you stand exposed. Starkly!

Academia should be really careful. In this age of internet and connectivity, anybody can search/research and read, and interested people beyond a point starts to think and reflect as well. And when many can read and think, people who are outside the academic system, intellectual dishonesty would be devastating for one and for all. I guess this would trigger a natural selection of intellectuals, and those who have been wilfully cultivated in the academia on a particular ideology, have inherent bias almost as a reflex action, they would cease to exist with time. Point is, intellectual dishonesty would be more severely self-destructing than ever, so academia should be really careful. It's also about what legacy one leaves behind, a honest one or a dishonest one, one's name to be named and shamed in future.

When one doesn't have the facts to argue or rebutt, naturally there will be no merit to the argument, when there is no merit, then one will bring up the political and ideological leanings and try to argue on it. It's really a shame that this is happening in universities.

Sen is a perfect example of colonisation He has no idea of the kind of epistemic violence that he has been subjected to, his identity itself has been colonised, it's the same for the majority of people. It is with this completely colonised mind space which has been created by dispossessing them of their true identity, that people like sen keep on providing labour in support of the system of capitalist colonialism
