I am trying to restore a deco cassette system, and your videos are a wonderful guide and reference.Very well done. I did have 1 question however, I found your other video on the idler tires and where to order them - that was amazing - ordered a set, but where did you get the rubber that goes between the 2 wheels, i can use a rubber band but are hoping you found something better. - Many thanks in advance.

I'm confused what does the Cassette tape purpose? it has the game code on it or some data code on it or something. I'm not sure what you mean by Field ground, what is considered the Field ground? If they don't want you to Loop meaning Tie connect the Field ground to the logic ground to prevent interference issues, what does the EE technicians want repair technicians to do to prevent interference issues and able to loop/tie connect the field ground to the logic ground. Technically you want all your grounds to tie together to the earth chassis ground of the unit. What I'm saying is that to prevent interference issues there must be another "grounding scheme" they want repair techs to follow instead of looping/tie connecting the field ground to the logic ground, but what grounding scheme do they want us to follow?

Yes the cassette tape has the game data on it. AFAIK there are no game roms on the board. Field Ground, Frame GND, Earth GND are all the same I believe. I think in perfect world FG and Logic GND (from switcher +5, +12v etc) will be separate but the problem occurs when they get tied together somewhere else in the ckt, like the monitor. Lots of switching power supplies will say "don't connect FG to Logic GND" probably because bad AC wiring can fry the thing. As Forrest would say, "and that is all I got to say about that"

@@jacklick Yes switching power supplies will have a switching frequency that is turning off/on the +5vdc and +12vdc which the switching frequency will leak into the logic ground and if you tie together the Game circuit board ground with the arcades monitor ground. I'm guessing linear power supplies AC power transformers secondary has two different isolated grounds from the logic ground and the Field ground? and Switching Power supplies don't offer two separated isolated grounds from the logic ground and the field ground. Some arcade monitors have a DAG black wire from the CRT tube to the neckboard on the monitor and other arcade monitors don't use a DAG wire. I think this DAG wire is considered a Field ground? or they just want the logic ground "floating" above earth chassis ground it seems.

Very interesting, as I never seen one and I worked with Arcade machines. Can't believe they used a cassette, so unreliable, instead of a cartridge with EPROM or Prom's. It's like old home computers. Thanks for the video 👍

@@KJW648 But it's super cheap and a dream come true* for the operator who instead of parting with four-digit sums for a new game will get a new one for peanuts. And if the tape stops working, he can send it in and get it replaced. And since the drive will work for a decade and by then the machine will be so outdated it won't make enough money to pay its electricity bill, imagine it's 1983, who cares if it doesn't work in the distant future that is the year 2021? (hell I remember how futuristic and far away the year 2000 seemed in 1994 - but then again I was 10 years old) *) if only the choice of games were semi-decent... (well at least there's Burgertime and Boulderdash)
