I love to watch mom and daughter.I have a son and I don’t think he would do this with me or have the patience. Right now I’m doing the Swiss death cleaning.

Actually, I am a big fan of how you are tackling this project. One box at a time is so much more manageable than dragging everything out at once.

I'm faced with the same exact situation. A lot of the Hallmark ornaments belong to my children. Clearing my own stuff is much easier to do, so I'm starting with that first.

This is a hard one. Lots of memories in those boxes.

When I was your age 64 I started to purge and I don’t miss anything. I understand how your Mom feels at 64. I am now 70 and so happy that I got rid of all the stuff I don’t use or needed. Less to store and clean.

You and your Mom work so well together and have so much fun. It is a joy to watch you two!

Downsizing Christmas is difficult because it’s a sentimental holiday. I saw a U.K. family that had one simple box of ornaments for a tree. That’s kinda my goal. The key is not to force a theme. But what goes with your home.

Your mom is so gorgeous! By the way, her being a grandmother, it is impressive she only had 4 bins!

This was helpful. I have a BIG tub full of Hallmark ornaments I've been meaning to weed out. Truth is...I haven't put any on my tree for the last 2 years. I guess this is my next project!

Watching this reminded me of the Cherished Teddies ceramic bears Hallmark also sold. I remember going to my sister in laws house during that time and she had a table full of them on display They were at least 10 bucks a piece! :/ Hallmark marketing!!!

Love this, in my family, I help my daughter declutter, because she is very sentimental.... My Xmas decor down to one rubber made... I love knowing it’s just my favorite decorations, easy to decorate, easy to put away after Christmas.... Loved watching you help your mom, my mom used to call me Ruthless lol In the 80s and early 90s everything was about collecting, your mom is right, plates, Xmas decor, dolls, today they are worth nothing, I see these things at antique stores for pennies I sold a collection of Cherished Teddies when they were popular, I made thousands of dollars, I sold them at the right time....

Thank you for another appearance from your mom. The two of you together always makes me smile. Its good that she is doing this now. I am trying to go through a huge farm house full of stuff. My 3 brothers want to just dump everything. My mom painted ceramics and those are special. I want to at least offer a piece to her grandchildren. I feel so torn. Then there's Dad's collections...

My mom did that when my grandpa passed away. She took everything and offered it to all the grandchildren. =)

(binge watching at 2am) We have 2 large rubbermaid storage sheds full of xmas items. We used to mega decorate our big yard. Since hubby in wheelchair, I am trying to convince him to go thriugh it and sell for younger generation to do a yearly xmas display. We have so much older items...it could pay for another cruise!!!😅

I found this video while looking for inspiration on decluttering Christmas decor. I enjoyed watching the interaction between you and your Mom. She's so cute and funny! I'm really missing my Mom. She passed away 3 years ago, but I know she would be glad to help me declutter, if she were here.

I agree, the Hallmark ornament boxes and their excessive inner packaging it so so fiddly and time-consuming to deal with each year. Nothing wrong with a bit of bubblewrap instead!

One year, after taking down the Christmas items I decluttered the ones that didn't "flip my switch."

Love watching the vlogs with your Mom, decluttering her home. I will be saying "It doesn't flip my switch instead of It doesn't spark joy mowwhen I declutter. Love that both you ladies laughed through the declutters. We have to keep at sense of humour. I am constantly saying to my 4 adult daughters. "Do want this?". And their response is "No, Mom we have enough of of own stuff" Going to try to curve asking. Hope to see more of your Mom.

My precious mom whom went to be with the Lord a few years ago, often gave us Christmas decorations, plush decor, & ornaments for our kids who were young at the time. Every year, I place them through out our home around Christmas. This time, we plan to have each of our adult children choose what decor or ornaments they want. Its a fond memory for our adult children to have in thier homes & a good way to declutter. We will use opportunity to discuss when my mom gave them to us & our loving memories of her. They will have a new home where they are meant to be. Enjoy your informatiion and your relationship with your mom. Fun video

Love you and your mum working together 😍.. Such a sweet video. In Germany we have hand made wooden tree (and other) orniments and glass orniments so they need individual compartments in storage boxes... They can't be put all together in a big bag (like your mums coloured balls)... So that takes space. I did a sort at Easter because in individual boxes you just don't use them.. .. And I will do another this year to improve the open compartments to make it easier to see what's inside.. I have sorted into 2 tree themes: 1) neutrals, 2) traditional red-gold and then I have 3) special orniments from family and travel. The kids chose the theme from 1) or 2) each year and 3) is always on the tree. It's so true... If it is all in individual boxes you don't take them out and use them!..

I think it’s great you live so close to your mom and that you two are on the same minimalism mission. I love watching you two laugh and work together🥰. I miss my mom and all the fun times we had together, but I have only wonderful memories. Ok and this video is so me! I have all my ornaments in boxes and have to take them out and put them all back in every Christmas. I am definitely taking them out of the boxes and wrapping them in bubble wrap like you did. Thank you so much for this great idea!

OMG - I’m going through the same process right now. I acquired sooo many Hallmark keepsake ornaments in the 80’s and 90’s. It was a passionate hobby. I had so many bins of ornaments, IN THEIR ORIGINAL BOXES. I won’t tell you how many bins. Fast forward to the present. I have a much smaller home and therefore less room to decorate. I thought I’d sell many but instead I donated and gave many away. A couple years ago I sent my husband to his work with several bins of boxed ornaments hoping his coworkers might want them. And They did! They took the ornaments home to their families. Some added to their own collections. What happened, that I did not expect, was their overwhelming appreciation. It touched me in a way that I never expected. I STILL have many ornaments that I will donate soon, if our donation place stays open for the next week or so.

Love your mom!💕 I also was a fool for Hallmark ornaments. I have a full crate for each of my 2 kids. I would add to their collections every year. While they are very cute and the details amazing. I would sell them back to Hallmark in a heartbeat. Lol! Been storing them, waiting for my kids to finish college and get their own homes to put them in. They probably don't even remember most of them, or want them. I no longer fall for the marketing of things. Minimalism is the only way for me. Less stress! I really enjoy your channel. ❤

I love your videos, especially with your mom. What a great relationship you have! I am constantly decluttering. I can relate to your mom as I was a Hallmark collector as well! I have 2 large bins full of collectable ornaments! What was I thinking?? I will be going through them at some point, but I keep putting it off! Thank you for the inspiration!

This is so timely!! I am just like your Mom and bought into the keeping the Hallmark ornament boxes!!! We have done the same thing unpack then repack them for years, such a job!!! Also, I have bought my daughter (who is now 14) Hallmark ornaments each year and ornaments from fun trips we have taken (pre-COVID), so she will have her own ornaments to put on her own tree someday that each have memories that hopefully she will remember as she decorates her tree. I am totally ditching the boxes this year!!! You have inspired me again ladies! Thanks!!

I’m ditching the boxes this year too!

I so need to do this with my Christmas decor!! I have so much it’s overwhelming! Being a crafter does not help! I seem to buy more each year! This is the hard part of minimalism because “ buying craft supplies” is a very hard habit for me to break! 😳 it’s a hobby of its own!

I love videos with your mom. She is great Shannon. I wish I knew you both in real life. I was experiencing the pain of recycling those ornament boxes right along with you mom, but agree it doesn't really make sense to keep if she wasn't using the ornaments bc it was such a pain to take out and pack back up. My mom has gotten 1 Hallmark ornament for each of my 4 kids since their first Christmas and so we have amassed quite the collection. I keep each child's in separate containers and don't repack in the boxes, but I will admit that I still hang on to the boxes. I love that my mom does this. It's the only ornaments we really use on the tree besides bulbs and each child looks forward to their new ornament each year. Thanks for the great video!

Really enjoyed this video. I sure do enjoy your Mom in your videos. Wow.. My Mom got me some Hallmark ornaments over the years, I never kept the boxes and now have passed all of those to my kids and their family. I used to have all of those Christmas linens; I did donate most of that. It feels good to have less seasonal things; but I do still like to be festive. Thanks for sharing.

Your mom and I must be the same age. I had declutter Ed my ornaments last year and the year before without adding any new decor. It was hard, but good. It was a big change because I used to buy a new ornament each year. This year, I might find some more to declutter just because you inspired me. Thanks for sharing.

I have to say I love this video. I also have my Hallmark ornaments in their boxes. This year I am changing that. Between recently going through and giving my adult children their ornaments for their first trees and removing the bulk of the boxes I am looking forward to having everything in one box and maybe even fitting everything into smaller of the two bins I previously had.
