We have not been to Birmingham for a while although this summer's contest is in Stratford upon Avon, not far. See ukmars.org for details of the next competition

Does anyone know of an open project that serves to introduce people to the sport and that can be replicable? tks !

I want to make same speed like this using ardiuno nano and ir along with ultrasonic is it possible?

Yes it would be there are plenty of good arduino based mice, ultrasonics are a bit slow for fast mice(speed of sound verses speed of light), what were you intending to do with them?

Mr.Harrison, I suggest you should have a fully assembled kit of this micromouse(or any other good design) for sale in an already established robotics supplier website. It will be very good for people who want to explore the hobby as starters and people like me who have a job and don't have time to spend on building one. It would be great to see in future any kit for sale maybe with Arduino, ESP and Raspberry Pi Pico or other popular platforms. It's a suggestion but please give a thought on it. BTW, do you know any other website that already sells these kind of assembled kits(except the PICAXE old kit 😋). I would very much like to initiate this project. Thank You for Reading.😀

Decimus is not a beginners MicroMouse! The UKMARSBOT is all open source so anyone could manufacture and sell it, Budling it is half the fun and does not take long, it's designed to be easy to assemble with no small surface mount parts. in fact company's have created a prebilt kit inspired by this project. ukmars.org/projects/ www.kswichit.net/micromouse/micromouse.html

@@MicroMouse is there vanilla UKMARSBOT-only race? imo those kind of "starter kit" competitions are great because it's on an even playing field money wise, and they're a great way to get very competitive from the get go.

What is the purpose of goung back and hitting the wall everytime the bot does a 180 degree turn?

When you reverse into a wall, you are always in a known position. Also, the side sensors may not be able to detect the edge in a single-cell dead end, so reversing ensures you don't miss it.

@@MicroMouse so why nobody uses the walls purposely for grip, or changing direction? Maybe you could add horizontal side wheels. They could be passive wheels just to help changing direction, or even traction wheels pushing the mouse ahead. So it could make faster corners.

Wait. They can scan and search for the best path before? Isn't that useless? The fastest should be the one that solves it on the first go.

there's still a lot of improvements, like what path to take, how the robot is built to handle the speed and acceleration etc. solving on the first go is more prone to chance, where a suboptimal algorithm could be better for the exact maze used in the competition. though it can be an interesting challenge to optimize too, but it's a relatively different competition, kinda like having a car race where the circuit is unknown in advance (e.g. rally trek) vs one on a set circuit (e.g. F1).
