In this video, we explain the idea of a Decentralized Autonomous Organization(DOA) and talk about the current context surrounding the term. A decentralized autonomous organization is an organization that is run by rules that are created by their members through a consensus process and then written into a set of contracts that are run via computer code, thus enabling the automated management of a distributed organization.

"Blockchain is an institutional technology, not an information technology, there is an enormous difference between the two. Institutional revolutions are things that don't happen very often... once you see that it is a governance technology, an institutional revolution, that's the interesting thing, that I think has largely been missed" - Jason Potts, Prof RMIT

I guess it depends on how far you want to go with the terms institution and technology. In the generalized sense, a technology is any system that has been rationalized to the point of automation. So I would not say that the democratic-republican political systems that we currently have are technologies in that they still depend on the "manual" work of people to maintain the everyday institutional structure, as opposed to a distributed autonomous organisation that automates that in the same way that platforms like Facebook already automate most of the workings of the social network.

Hmmm... partially agree. The founders of the U.S. didn't want a Democracy (Democracies break down once the average group IQ drops below a threshold level). Without factoring in leadership IQ a DAO is doomed. Sometimes the best decisions aren't the most popular because they require a long term planning perspective. "Give me free stuff by taking it from those with more" is very popular. Property rights and majority aggression prevention would have to be built into the system.

Great job explaining a complex concept! Hopefully people will realize how disastrous the idea of a universal basic income is, and choose this route instead. But if they don't, I guess that's their problem, and people like us profit in the mean time. Eventually the rest of the population will catch up though.

i think most people arent aiming for a universal basic income ??? if something like that were to be of interest, dont you think it would already be flourishing? I also think that its a little selfish to say that "people like us will profit in the meantime" its our job to educate and communicate things by framing them in ways that different people can understand. its our job to help "the rest of the population catch up"

Are there any apps or platforms/organizations that make use of this as of now? And I'm not talking about Ethereum (which arguably is the best example but isn't concrete enough for me). Is there a news organization working with blockchain, a mercantile company, anything. Or is it up to us to create it now? I have a hunch this will be as ubiquitous as having a smartphone ten years from now.

As far as I know there are few. The biggest example was The DAO (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_DAO_(organization)) but it ended up being hacked with a big loss. Other than that, you have Aragon Network (blog.aragon.one/introducing-the-aragon-network-20b998e2caba), which, in the long run, will be managed by the Aragon Dapp by the community. This is what I know upfront. More information can be found at The DAOHub (forum.daohub.org/)

Your channel probably isn't the right forum for these types of questions, but I'm really hoping for a little input from someone who understands Complex Systems. I have observed a phenomena on KZread and in trying to better understand this I associated it to a number of things, including how I perceived ecosystems, markets, and ants colonies. I came to find that all of these were classified as Complex Adaptive Systems, which seemed to be the answer I was looking for. This is really what brought me to your channel to begin with. Do you think that a Complex Adaptive System of agents who all value certain aspects within content could propagate on KZread? A system which only requires all agents to perform the task of consumption (usually facilitated by some means of recruitment) and consumers appear to be much of the backbone. While a minority of agents perform tasks such as direct recruitment (e.g. sharing channels and content of interest) and interaction with producers of content (e.g. reinforcement, requesting content). Some recruiters appear heavily dependent on what's within the boundaries of the system while others also function as scouts, using search terms and filters. There are a number of things I should mention as well, such as how the suggestions in relation to the videos shared within this system will gravitate towards other content desirable to this system. And the related channels in relation to the producers will begin to gravitate towards others producers of interest to the system. While the related channels suggested in association with recruiters and agents with activities heavily residing in these corners (e.g. viewing videos interacting with producers) tend to gravitate towards recruiters. To me, this seems like "swarm" behaviors/intelligence, but maybe I'm wrong. I was hoping on the input of someone who better understands this stuff. Another thing I should mention is that the producers usually gain most of their views, likes, and subscribers subsequent to producing content of interest to the demographic and they appear to have no legitimate value beyond this. Their content of interest will incomparably high views in comparison to their videos of non-interest. And if you check the statistics on their videos produced before they gained this popularity, you will find that much of the statistics will come subsequent (due to the foraging habits of certain agents I would imagine). And the videos which they produce subsequent to gaining this popularity will have higher views than their videos would otherwise have gained. Again likely due the foraging habits of agents drawn towards their channels and their newly found subscriber base.

Many of the agents in this system I am describing are regularly violating KZread's Community Guidelines and some are committing serious crimes. KZread does little to combat them (same can be said for law enforcement). They only take action according to user-submitted reports on the individual and often fail to take action at all. Their community-based flagging system is a total joke. It does not dismantle their networks. Although targeting high-ranking recruiters often has a serious impact, it's not enough. Also, even if you were to terminate all recruiters, that wouldn't completely dismantle them. The content by producers of interest to them would still serve as a common area and KZread's suggestions would continue to recruit agents. So they would maintain some level of organization and recruiters quickly reestablish order. Such a method would not "uproot" them. They have their roots deeply embedded into KZread. The best way I can explain it is that there's a constant flux of resources (e.g. recruiters, producer channels, content of interest) in and out of this system, but as a whole the system is quite sustainable. KZread seem to be cooperating with them as a whole rather than combating them. There's far more they *could do* to tackle the issue. I think there a few ways in which KZread could detect and combat the emergence of such audiences. I could elaborate a little more on the behaviors of the agents and the type of content they're seeking if that would be helpful... Just let me know if I'm not providing enough information for this to make sense. And if you cannot talk to me about this on your channel that would be fine, just please let me know so it's clear.

I read on Wikipedia that stigmergy is one of the key concepts in the field of swarm intelligence. Swarm intelligence is something I didn't understand very well but about all I could previously related some of this to. Do you think that this stigmergy thing could be facilitated through KZread suggestions? Previously I could only relate it to swarm intelligence and some of the concepts in information foraging theory.

Is there anyone who you could refer me to who might be interested in examining this system which I have discovered? There's one guy who's part of the system who has been abusing vulnerable people since at least 2010, but some evidence suggests strongly 2009, and the accounts of some individuals suggest 2008. I think it's something which a little awareness should be brought to. I mean... KZread allowing dangerous criminals to organize and prey on vulnerable individuals on their service. I don't think I could really take this issue on alone.

I've read that article utopia.fans/blog/is-the-idea-of-decentralized-internet-viable/ and it seems that everything had changed already. Decentralization became so popular, most of the apps now are exactly like that. People will prefer it more, especially those who care about their online privacy.

Let me play the devils advocate here: A company started with the resources and capital of the founder, through his/her hard work, blood, sweat and tears. Founder controls the capital. Its THEIR company. Goal is to fulfill the mission of the company and also to increase the founders (and maybe investors) wealth. Decisions are made by the founder and his/her team of experts. Why would the founder give up their control? it will NEVER happen. control and decision making is based on ownership of the company, which will NEVER be given up. How does this fit in with the concept of DAO?

This sounds dangerously close to utilitarianism. Ayn Rand would be proud. I don’t want to live in a society that emphasizes a meritocracy. Yes, nature is some what meritocratic, but if we emphasize it, there will be drawbacks like less variety and creativity. Also, being a part of a large immutable list would make me feel powerless. Most people don’t vote in the elections for that very reason.
