December Bluefin Tuna, From Zero To HERO
Фильм және анимация
We struggle at the start of this trip. Pulling crimps. Pulling hooks. But we got things straightened out and landed our first ever December BLUEFIN TUNA.
We harvest one at 56" Curved Fork Length and release 3 others with the biggest probably 60-62" or so.
We end the video with Chris and Alana making some homemade sushi with the beautiful Toro belly meat.

Immense respect for keeping in the crimp section of the video. We all learn and become better when people like you show what it actually takes to be out there getting it done. Great video, great lesson.

I appreciate that
As a kid in the mid-70's , was 15 miles out of Barnegat Inlet going for blues when my dad spotted a school of football bluefin chasing bait, he immediately sent me down in the cabin to retrieve his tackle box with feathers and other lures to troll, I had forgot to bring the tackble box from the back of the station wagon, needless to say he was none too happy and we caught no bluefin that day, I know the feeling of screwing up and missing the chance on some bluefin, but you made a good comeback, I have still never caught a bluefin 50 years later

aww man. Sorry you never got your bluefin. Thanks so much for watching!
Throw a happy anniversary or two in there too! Yeah, I'm doing a mini marathon with The Reaper and Tuna! That crimper mess was stinko! At least you're honest. It happens. God bless and safe travels! Especially for the folks involved with the Key Bridge in Baltimore. Don't know how many times I went over it when I was still driving truck.

Yo bud, can we go togging now? Thanks for another incredible year on the blue water! Tog Slayer
Great video Chris!! It will be easier to crank on the fish if you tighten the nut on the bottom of the swivel rod holder, it's a bit of a feel and a preference. I would advise go as tight as you think you will need it and then add 1/4-1/2 turn more. When the fish has drag they will make the rod turn a lot easier than you think.

Cool video. Other than some 30lb yellowfin around the thirty line my best tuna was a 150lb big eye on a stand up thirty. No chair on the maiden voyage of the 35’ Cabo. We were short one eighty so we put the thirty closest to the boat. Of course he bit it.

It was definitely some insane bluefin fishing this fall, I went 3 times running and gunning and had 1 bite which unfortunately I pulled the hook after a couple of minutes.

Chris, this fall/almost winter has been surreal. Its crazy to think of all the years where we were happy with one fish after quite a few trips. Almost couldnt miss this year. If only the giant category was open.... still going on strong. Just wow

Burn the ends of your line when you go to crimp it I've seen the small hi seas crimpers the 1.3 crimps slip before those crimpers just don't put enough pressure down on the crimp. By burning your ends it eliminates any chance of a crimp slipping. This is just what I've done for a number of years and have been lucky enough to never have a crimp slip.

@@reaperfishingnj8623Wow the crimp could have just been bad and it was a freak thing. I feel like if you fish enough stuff’s going to happen. Even the past couple years I’ve seen ande and momoi a few times the knot blowing up. This was after tying a swivel on using a uni knot onto my trolling gear. Have broken a few windons off.
I also go by the diameter not the lb test rating cause there's lot of different variations of the same lb test.

From a 100% Abruzzese Italian (father was born there and mother in South Philly which was Italy in the 1920's), you NEVER should use a recipe, a good Italian cook knows how to cook by taste and memory, by the way, your Spanish is as bad as mine and I had 4 years in high school and a semester in college, no entiendo tu :-)
