    This video is my story as far as social security goes. Most of the information for food stamps doesn't help me much but thank you for sharing this information. I get basically $130 a month in food stamps and it's not enough to eat unless you eat ramen noodles and hotdogs mostly and buy them from Dollar Tree! But I am grateful to not be in the $23-75 dollar group which is even worse! I received the same letter from Social Security claiming I owed them enough to take my check for almost six months! I was able to successfully negotiate a payment plan but it cut my check below what I needed it to be. The SSA has tried TWICE this year to cut my check off and I've been receiving it since I was about 16! (The first time by saying that all of a sudden I'm not disabled anymore (I'm 52 and have received it since I was about 16!) I appealed it. Then when they agreed to give it back to me pending the outcome of the appeal they sent me the overpayment letter and tried to cut my check off for almost 6 months! My rent is $400 a month. If I lose my house there is nowhere in Georgia (I live in Georgia) where I can rent my own place for that amount. (1 bedroom rentals here start at over $700 a month). The section 8 list only opens for about a week every 4 years. (PS I need total knee replacement in both knees, I can't walk a mile, or stand for long periods. The only job I'm probably capable of is a receptionist and the last time I tried all the employers wanted experience! How do you get experience if no one will hire you to get the experience? Most of the doctor's offices etc. give receptionist jobs to someone they know (the old saying-it's who you know rings true).

    Several years ago, a friend got a notice of wrongful overpayments & had to repay it. Since she was working & the sole support of her ailing husband, I advised her to settle the debt via garnishment, since this had a collection limit of 15% of her paycheck. They continued to pay the lower amount of her benefit during this time. It took her nearly 1-1/2 years to pay it back, but it was much better than paying it back in 60 days!!

    Back in 2001, I was working for a gas station earning appx $55,000 while on SSI. I am disabled. I received a letter about 3 months after doing my 10 year review and they SSI said I owed $25,000 in backpay since I was working and didn't report it. I explained to them I wasn't aware I had to report to them about my other (Job) earnings to SSI, I have been always truthful when filling out the paper work or visiting in person. Anyways I talked to a lawyer and he said file bankruptcy and you won't have to pay a cent of it back. of course I would have poor credit for the next 10 years. and I did lose my benefits for 8 years. But I did get back on it. Under Michigan rules if you make less than $2,000 year you qualify for "State SSI Benefits" even though your disabled.

    Food banks and home gardens can help provide food for people. Even if we don’t have an outdoor garden, lots of produce and herbs can be grown in pots and plastic storage containers indoors. Seeds, roots and cuttings can be grown from leftover fruits and vegetables. Homegrown compost created from food scraps can help to enrich and increase garden soil. Friends, families and neighbors can trade homegrown produce and herbs with each other. Government help is unreliable and can easily and abruptly be cut off with little to no notice.

    I personally have never experienced anything from Toys for Tots, but my experience is through the Salvation Army. I will NEVER use their services ever. They make people who are not able to work, who are homeless, pay for their homeless shelters. They make people sell stuff on the streets in order to pay for them to stay even one night. When my girls were babies, I also tried to get help through their services, and I was refused. Since that time, I have refused to put even one penny in the red buckets during the holidays.

    People must understand, all government assistance is now run by computer programs not people. If you receive any kind of letter saying You owe money ,contact a lawyer immediately, there are legal aid offices in most cities. If you leave a message for legal aid and they don’t contact you within 24 hours, just go right into the office. Make sure to bring a ss card and birth certificate and proof of income and address.

    I am a 56 year old woman living in N.C., and I am over 400lbs. I also have diabetes and arthritis in my hands knees and hips. I almost died from COVID-19 laying in my own bed because I didn't have any medical insurance. I have never married so have no spouse or children. No I do not have a live-in partner never have and at 56 and weighing this much, that boat has sailed, if you know what I mean. However I do live with my 80 year old mother and my full blooded sister who has been deemed disabled since she was two years old, with retardation of the brain 🧠 and seizures. I went on food stamps first because I didn't have a job because I was needed at home to help mom with my sister as Mom's health decreased and so has my sister's as well as my own. But always before my 50's I have worked a job. My first job was at 14 years old. I have always been a plus size full figured child and woman. And now that working on concrete and grabbing with my hands at work has caught up with me. I became disabled and applied for disabled social security in 2021 after I asked a doctor at the free clinic if he thought I could work or was I disabled or not? He took one look at my legs alone and said yes ma'am with those legs there's no way you can work on them. So my social worker helped me get an appointment and interview with the SSA staff, and after seeing two of their doctors and a looney doctor. They put me on SSI at 700.00 dollars a month. I rent a room from my mom and have my own Frigidaire 400.00 dollars a month. Bought an old Van for 400.00 dollars with my first large sum payment and got insurance on it, just liability which is 51.00 dollars a month. My food stamps were reduced to 191.00 monthly (after COVID-19). But last month in November they reduced my food stamps down to 145.00 a month. Why? Because they were going to start giving me 780.00 dollars in December. But now you are telling me that the food stamps might be raised in my state to help feed me "maybe, someday"? So I will be getting in January I guess because I didn't get it on the first of December a raise of about 45.00 dollars and because of that I now can only get 145.00 dollars of food stamp help with prices climbing like crazy. At 400.00 for rent leaves me at 380.00. Then 50.00 more or less each month for car insurance leaves me at 330.00. And three months ago I got a cell phone 📱 and tablet combo from T-Mobile for 72.00 dollars a month because I didn't know anything about a free Government one until after I got the combo in the first place. So now I am at 258.00 dollars left over to buy food, gas, nonfood needs, and over the counter medical supplies. I get Medicaid and thank you God Almighty it pays for my medical treatments and my medicines. But I see up here every day where other people can get up to 6,200.00 dollars without even a job to pay for food and rent at stores like Walmart and Target 🎯. But if you are on Medicaid you are crap out of Luck. They will not help Medicaid or Medicare old sick and disabled people because we're now old and useless. How about all those years when I was young and healthy. Paying in every paycheck and year fatefully my share of taxes to the State and Federal Government like a good little slave. Now I am not even worth a full Social security disability check?? Yeppers I am whining about the injustices of it all. I just pray that my Van doesn't break down this winter or I will be without a ride. I am tired of whining now it doesn't change a damn thing anyway so good bye and God bless you.

  • @foodstampsnow

    @foodstampsnow

    7 ай бұрын

    The current general age requirements for SNAP benefits is 16 - 59 years old. The general work requirements include registering for work, participating in SNAP Employment and Training (E&T) or workfare if assigned by your state SNAP agency, taking a suitable job if offered, and not voluntarily quitting a job or reducing your work hours below 30 a week without a good reason. If you are age 18-52, able to work, AND don’t have any dependents (children) you will need to meet both the general work requirements and an additional work requirement for ABAWDs to get SNAP for more than 3 months in 3 years (the time limit). The ABAWD work requirement is the age requirement we mention in the video. It increased from 50 to 52 years old in October 2023 and will be increasing again from 52 to 54 years old in October 2024. Hope this helps clarify! Please let us know.

    I have an idea for the SSA and the Government about the Lottery Winnings. Penalize both the Lottery companies and the individual winners with huge monetary penalties if the Lottery companies do not notify the SSA and inform the winners that they will be notifying the Feds, the SSA, as well as the IRS about their winnings. If the Lottery companies are held accountable to enabling gambler's dysfunctions they might help keep them out of the Federal Governments hip pockets.

    @@foodstampsnow this is the source of all the problems. People would look out for errors they make more diligently if their standards weren’t ridiculous to begin with. No one in America is as abject as they want you to appear in paper. Not even the homeless.

    In some cases this increase your household’s resources (assets) depending on how the loan is done. We suggest contacting your state SNAP caseworker directly to find out if this will count as a resource for your household.
