As a person who took the shorter GRE and the older GRE, i can say that content wise, the difficulty is the same. However the difference is the following: Reduced time and shorter questions on the exam. The negative to that is each question will add significant more weight to your score compared to the old GRE. The shorter GRE is less forgiving when you get questions wrong, and it can greatly impact your score. Put it like this: 5 questions wrong on the GRE quant section can still have you score in the mid to high 160s. However 5 questions wrong on the shorter GRE can translate to a score in the low 160s in quant. Keep in mind that this is just an example to illustrate my point Hope this helps.
