    canva licensing clearly states that it cannot now be used with KDP POD as we do not own the copyright on any canva templates - no matter how we maniputate the canva template. I closed my Canva pro account because Canva licensing information is confusing and not clear. a lot of people have had their amazon KDP books blocked for copyright issues - canva is too risky to use in KDP print on demand as we do not own copyright of canva images and Canva is so wishy-washy with their confusing license. Amazon KDP clearly states we must own the copyright of the images/artwork, it states nothing about owning a licensening agreement as it does with amazon merch.

    The "gray area" of image edits isn't the only problem with graphics bought from various sites. The big problems are when you buy a graphic and then accidentally find out that the seller doesn't own the rights. You report it to the site, the site checks, deletes the seller and warns you not to use the graphics. But if you've already done it, maybe a year before, you run the risks. If they report you, Amazon will cancel your account and if it goes even worse, you risk a lawsuit.

    I would wait. They are going to come out with a statement. They called Mey Aroyo, and she made a video about it, today. Also, always beware of any site that has a single use license, which Canva does. Artists and designers need to be aware of that, especially, concerning POD, digital art, and KDP. I hope they address that single use license, because even if you bring in your own graphics and fonts, that single use applies. I will proceed with caution, until they come out with a video or statement. I suspect, they won’t bring up the single use license, but we can hope they do.

    Thanks for this! I just went through the whole licensing agreement page on their website again and couldn’t find the words “print on demand” or similar anywhere. Nor could I find anything to suggest that you cannot use the graphics commercially as long as they aren’t used in isolation etc (as you so clearly explain in your video). Will be interesting to see if there’s a public response from Canva on this… 🤔

    The problem is really their single use license. Even bringing in your own graphics and fonts can cause problems, if they don’t address the single use license. Everyone is so worried about the elements, though, I suspect they won’t do anything about the single use license. Artists and designers need to be aware anytime a program or website has a single use license. Canva has its own print service, although, you don’t make money from it, unless you buy a lot of tshirts, and, then, you would have to ship them from your home. You may get a discount, with bulk buying. So, I will proceed with caution, until they change the single use license.

    if you are using the image from canva in your designs in Amazon KDP POD, (which you must own the copyright within KDP-POD), - Look for the question in Canva help " do I own copyright" this is what is states in Canva "But if you use third-party content (e.g. stock Content from the Canva library) in your design, your ownership is subject to those'third-party rights'." I just had my KDP account terminated because they said I used images “freely available” on the internet. They said it went against their TOS. I bought the images from Creative Fabrica - 3 different images from 3 different artists - none of which were trademarked. The first time KDP flagged this planner, I proved to them that I had the license keys to use those images. They approved the planner to be published again. Ten days later, they terminated my account saying I didn’t have any rights to the images on the planner cover, even after they approved it to be re-published. Both myself and an IT guy have performed image searches on the internet and have yet to find any similar picture to mine. KDP will not tell me specifically how they determined I violated their TOS. The takeaway: just because you think you are doing everything By the book and following their rules, doesn’t mean you are safe on KDP. Be very cautious!

    Thanks, Nuria. I use Canva more like you do, as a design tool, but I do use fonts and occasionally a graphic. Aside from the Pro elements being only available to subscribers or for purchase, what’s the difference between them and the free elements? Are the free elements safer to use in publication? Also, what about dot grid pages or lined pages, something like that? There’s really no way to alter them and all look just alike. Can I use a very generic interior like that without altering in some way? Thanks again!

  • @TheHomeBoss

    @TheHomeBoss

    Жыл бұрын

    Whether elements are Pro or free, you always have to combine them to create a unique overall image, so there is no difference in how you would have to use them for KDP. With generic pages like dot grid, lined pages and similar, there is nothing you need to do to alter them, a lined notebook is a lined notebook, so Amazon doesn't expect us to turn it into anything else, it really is just about the cover, title and subtitle where you have to be creative. You could add a little image to your lined pages and some notebooks look really lovely and unique by including that, but it's not a requirement. Hope this helps and all the best to you!

    I would say yes on your first question. You designed everything yourself then it's a 👍. Now your second question. I would not use any of the Canva templates without drastically changing them to make them uniquely yours. Meaning ... a template is basically a starting point, an idea so to speak. You should use the idea to create something new that is nothing like theirs. Alter and change everything from text to font, to elements and their colors. I noticed that some of the templates on Canva use pro elements too. I stay away from those and only use the free elements that let me alter their colors (not all do) that way my creations look nothing like anyone else's. Anything free or in the public domain should be looked at as a starting point. An idea only. Your creativity comes in when you show off what you can do with that. That's as simple as I can put it.
