This sounds a lot like mortal shell, where the shells were the play style.

Drastically different, in this one you actually switch between them mid swing in real time, as in Mortal Shell you have to literally go back and change to the character you want and you're stuck with him until you feel like changing it again. Only the fallen warriors concept is similar.

This looks really interesting. The color palette and some of the designs remind me a lot of Warframe, which is a compliment in my case. Will watch this one.

So far; outside of Nioh 2 and Salt & Sanctuary, I feel like most soulslikes fail to hold my attention. That being said; games like Code Vein and Lords of the Fallen stuck with me way more than I originally thought they would, and I guess I’m actually rooting for whatever comes out next from those devs.

The problem with all the souls like games is when you play them you realize how much better dark souls and Elden ring are and want to just play those.

I played my first souls game, ds2 during the pandemic and it blew my mind. Nothing beats the feeling of playing dark souls games for the first time. Ds1 was even better in terms of map design. Ds2 is my favourite tho.

Interestingly, when I played Lies of P all the way through I thought that it was better than Bloodborne. However, since then I was not compelled to come back for another playthrough while playing BB for loads of hours using different builds, doing different quests, chalice dungeons etc. So while at first it seemed smoother and prettier, long term it's not even close

I actually like seeing how different devs mix and match the Soulsborne elements and add their own ideas, plus you have Ninja Theory who has imo carved out a distinctive style of Souls-like that is their own thing with great, more complex combat and flashy as hell theatrics. You also have games like Lies of P that nails the combat and bosses or Lords of the Fallen that nails the world exploration. I appreciate a good souls-like for sure.

I would like a review, if you can fit it in :) I played the demo (and reviewed it for a website), and while I am intrigued by the premise of the game and its mechanics, some of the clunkiness concerns me. In particular, key rebinding was really glitchy in the demo, so I attempted to use the default keyboard + mouse controls and they felt rather bad.

Looks promising with the combat but anything that deals with even a slice of emotion of constructs of the mind I’ve very weary of these days. Hopefully it proves me wrong.

Imo, 95% of soulslike games fail to nail the two crucial pieces of the puzzle, the world/lore/story and the combat. Majority somehow always get only one right and miss out on the other...

I think we're on the edge of the Souls bubble in the gaming world. 2024 releases are full of Soul likes and the novelty for these sorts of games are rapidly fading. Fromsoft better watch out, it's literally impossible to top Elden Ring at this point, even Bloodborne 2 will be hard to please all but the most rabid fanboy.

There is very much to do with the genre. Their Sekiro or Nioh proves it. Elden Ring might be the best overall but in my book DS3 and especially Bloodborne are just better. I didn't finish the dlc ( I'm by the last boss and have a few other bosses to kill) but everywhere I go in elden ring , it feels like I have seen that already. That's why I didn't go for multiple playthroughs unlike in DS3 and Bloodborne. Dlc is the same. U have visually nice locations but every castle or cave or dungeon or just plains. Everywhere I got the feeling that I have seen this movie before. Also DS3 and Bloodborne has more unique weapons then ER. In terms of movesets . Yes we have in ER so many build options but most builds are about some powerful ash of war. Or about jump attack( heavy weapons or bloodbuilds) . We don't use base weapon movesets as much, those are just addition. Also there are very few unique movesets for some special or boss weapons or just with minor tweaks. Which can't be compared with 14 or 16 trick weapons or DS3 weapons. Like the Farron Greatsword or Fried's scythe or crow quills . We used those weapons and their movesets instead of just spells(ashes of war are kind of like a spells) also the bosses were better in my opinion. Not to mention that linear or semi open world was more immersive. Victorian horror in BB is unmatched and DS3 did also great job with immersion. In ER all those big and empty plains etc. Just taking you out of it. And there are plenty of those in ER. I'm not hating it. Just comparing to DS and BB.

Thanks for the video. Some recent soulslikes, Another Crab's Treasure and Tunic, demonstrated that a good soulslike doesn't have to be dark and brooding, so it's a bit disappointing to see that instead of exploring the genre, they're just recycling it. Onward to 400k. All glory to the algorithm.
