    You forgot one key factor, MGSV runs at a solid 60fps while DS runs at 30fps, so naturally they had room to improve its graphics, if they initially planned MGSV as native 30fps it would obviously have much better shadows, lighting, textures and effects.

    MGS V has a much louder sound design. Running looks so noise. The wjnd and rain too. Because DS does not focus on stealth, they did a different approach. The loud noise from rain at MGS is there to show enemies wont hear you that easily.

  • @truesoulghost2777

    @truesoulghost2777

    4 жыл бұрын

    Exactly. They have differences. Metal gear has heavier rain for instance so it's appropriate with the sound. The same goes for Snake as he walks or runs. He has guns, ammo, and a metal arm. So the sounds that are made when he moves are right. Can't really compare that part between the two games because of the difference of character and atmosphere. As far as sound quality one doesn't seem better than the other. Graphics yes.

  • @gilbertgotfried

    @gilbertgotfried

    I'm thinking that's why Nick said to decide for yourself. Death Stranding's sound design is ultimately more varied and natural when you look into it, but it's also very subtle. MGSV's sounds needed to be exaggerated by design because the player had to be aware of how loud they were at all times.

You have to look VERY close to really notice the difference. Biggest benefit of the PC version is the high framerates. Purely from an impressionistic standpoint, I think MGSV looks better. The FOX engine was designed to capture realistic light before anything else. So while Death Stranding shows more impressive details, MGSV's play of light and shadow has a more earthy, impressionistic quality. I think it's really the engine itself that makes all the difference. The creators of the Horizon engine weren't prioritizing realistic light. So what they built renders images that look and feel less like reality than fantastical paintings. Horizon is gorgeous and lushly detailed. Death Stranding takes much of that lushness, and gives it a somber restraint, and some added photo-realism with its constantly overcast sky and diffuse daylight. It's a completely appropriate style for the somber but lush game. But MGSV did something special with its engine, casting stunningly rich light over the arresting drabness of its characters and settings. In short, Death Stranding is designed to look like award-winning nature photography, while Metal Gear Solid 5 is designed to look like stark news photos from war-torn regions. Both styles work. But I look forward to seeing what Kojima Productions will create if they develop their own engine. MGSV is by no means the best game in the world, but it is the most starkly realistic looking game, because it knows that realism isn't in the details. It's in the overall impression.

    Great video, I was surprised by how much Death Stranding improved upon what Phantom Pain provided graphically! Death Stranding really does seem like a milestone in the current generation of consoles and the point from which the next generation can pick up. Even with that in mind, Phantom Pain still does hold up quite well in a few areas. If anyone wants to see a similar environment handled in the FOX Engine and how it compares visually to Death Stranding, Ground Zeroes has slightly more similar design in its setting. The rocky landscape and coloration of the cliffside environments bear a much closer resemblance to where Death Stranding takes place unlike Angola-Zaire or Afghanistan.

    The issue I have with death stranding is its dialogue, its conversations dont seem in link with MGS conversation talk. It gose like rhetoric or too much preachy in a sense all through. I dont get the settled character when I play Sam Bridges at first but the buddy baby and Sam is nice. MGS1 gave a return of Solid Snake from Metal gear and Metal gear 2. The codec gave mostly the combination of the characters in a sutble realistic tone. Death Stranding has this ongoing speech of humanity and going up in the heavens. Which at time put me off, the realistic walking simulator is different and adds a nice touch too realism if MGSV added this walking simulator would give depth of the struggle that we see in death stranding.

    I'm afraid this will be the trend now. People like you comparing the two games and choosing sides like children. It would be a shame to fight over Kojima's great games. To people thinking like that, just enjoy all of them, or don't fight over what's better.

    Fun Fact: MGS V lost it's graphical advantage because it was originally developed for last gen consoles. This means all the models and assests were created with last gen limitations in mind and by the time devs realized they're moving to 8th Generation it was too late to rework the assets which is way the game easily ran at 60fps on 8th gen consoles because it was way below their processing limitations.

    I played all MGS games, and Death Stranding design is pretty much like a re-skin of MGSV with a different but similar engine edit: btw a little unfair comparison of graphics, PS3 vs PS4 Pro game..compare both on PC when DS is released as well, and you can use mods to increase graphic fidelity on MGSV more with modern hardware

    Theres other great methods that are likely more cost effective. Crystal dynamics for example, use millions of source points created by a fluorescent paint on the actors face, which make up characters like lara Croft in shadow and rise of the tomb raider. Most other studios use tkns of these white dots they stick to actors faces in the same way

    Metal Gear Solid V was primarily limited by its origins in the previous console generation. Characters, effects and performance are better on PC/PS4/Xbox One, but the environments clearly show their 360/PS3 origins with low geometric detail and sub-2k textures. Death Stranding was coded from the ground up for PS4 and newer PCs, while targeting 30Hz on PS4 and Pro, so it's in a position where it can easily render much finer assets.
