After putting nearly 150 hours into this game, getting all trophies, and watching as many reviews as I can I still come back and say this one mirrors my experience more than any other. This game is one of a kind and will be talked about for years. Truly unbelievable what Kojima achieved here. I can't get this game out of my head even after spending all that time with it.

@@redseagaming7832 I'm doing this from memory, but you press L2 then the down button on the left side and it will say "soothe bb" and press that button (i think its the triangle button). Then you need to shake the controller and Sam will shake BB to calm them down. Hope it helps!

The moment that this game really clicks for me is going to Port Knot City, when you see it on the horizon and then the extremely somber yet hopeful song kicks on. It’s such a beautiful moment of introspection…I will hold it with me forever

yeah man, i feel you. it clicked for me also in that part. i barely got alive to the edge of the cliff while going to the port knot. i was walking silently for an half an hour, my shoes where destroyd, and a almost died...i had a lot of stuff on me, but had no ladder and only one rope...and oh fuck - it's a cliff (i wasn't expecting it, couse it seemed to be more gently sloping on the 3d map).. i thought i would die, but smartly using the only rope, step by step i was able to get down.. i even fell maybe for 5 meters. and almost died again....but i survived... with still some life in me and my stuff was not completely broken..then i was running with my bloody feet to the water barely alive....and i heared that music....fuck it was a beautiful moment ....from that moment i was in love with this game... by the way, Low Roar's band's leader died few days ago.

This was the review that ALMOST sold me on the game, none of the other reviews except this one and maybe YongYea's were satisfying. But a few days after watching this I realized I had a long weekend with not much to do so I bought it. It's a great game, and another reason why I think gameplay videos don't always do justice to the games.

But as I got older are started to view video games as I view film it interactive medium with great potential to tell many different story is a multiplicity of meaning themes. I almost thirty now I rare play anything unless it catch my interest personal love indie scene because if you dig through you find some real beauty that marry mechanic, theme and narrative. Death is indie game a vision with a AAA power. It why I love Journey and cultist Simulator. To me and seems to other people too this game is something beautiful.

I just started playing this game recently, It is surprisingly fucking addicting, IDK about you guys but this game is relaxing to play. certainly not for impatient people I would think. But yeah this is peak Kojima. I respect his risky attempt to create something artful and unique. a 10/10 for me because not every game developer has balls to do something risky for a change

I think we gotta start ignoring what the mob thinks about games, I'm currently going back to games that have had a bad reception at launch.. Turns out I've missed a lot of masterpieces. Only issue for me with this game is how Japanese direct American actors. But its like that in every Japanese game with Western Characters. So I can over look it.

I went from feeling a little hesitant about playing (from seeing IGN's review) to looking forward to Death. The whole traversal system which IGN made out to be tedious and repetitive Skill explained it in detail and I think it is brilliant. From the simple idea of turning game travel which is always a routine and easy affair into the core gameplay loop is a great idea and 100% Kojima. I'm the type of gamer that has always loved seeing what was over the horizon in Skyrim and I can't wait now to play this.

I litrally just got that "Rad Steez, Bro!" achievement by accident last night.

I think Kojima made this as a challenge to himself, or an example to the people who hate him. He took this *extremely* simple idea, taking one thing and putting it somewhere else, and then made people want to play it. Think about it, nobody likes a fetch quest in a game. But fetch quests ARE this game. He wrapped this fetch quest up in social motivation, interesting plot, and beautiful graphics, then gave it a bow and told you "Please, enjoy." We did, and we are, and we will. Kojima is showing us that he isn't done. He's only getting started.

Either you've played the game and it wasn't your cup of tea, or you're judging based off of a let's play you watched. From my experience as someone who finds the game to be right up my alley, every point made in this review is true, even the points where he sorta grandstands with it. Each step you take requires precision, especially when handling large amounts of cargo, and depending on how you attune to the environmental tells, you can have an easy or hard time traversing the landscape. At certain sections of the game, it can shock or surprise the unsuspecting porter hauling deliveries upwards of 100kg, or it can be a timekiller where you build indirect connections with the other players you'll never see, but you will know are right there with you. It can be a repetitive game, and there's a noticeable amount of contentiousness in the art of it, however I disagree with the statement that the gameplay is terrible. At worst, it can be tedious at times, and at best it is unbelievably immersive.

This review is even better after getting further into the game. The beauty in this game is in how it evolves over time. Everything seems like it has purpose and truly does make you feel connected

17 hrs in and having a great time - I do think this game will appeal most to strategy gamers who want to experience an open world RPG with exploration and a strong narrative.

Can vouch for that. I love RPGs. Kingdom Come Deliverance was my 2018 GOTY, surpassing GoW & RDR2 due to its overly "simulation" approach to all that the players have to do. It got me totally immersed in the world to the point that I have a daily in-game routine. And the same thing is what I feel with DS.

This is exactly what i want to say about Death Stranding. You nailed it.

I can't believe it took me 3 years to play this game. This game is freaking amazing, I can't stop playing it even after finishing the story. Which was great. Not perfect. But freaking great.

Kojima is so fortunate that Decima engine came into existence just in time. That alone would take years and years to develop from scratch.

This is "someone's" review of the game first and foremost and it is honestly one of the best I've ever seen.

I think Demon Souls also had the same concept with its online messaging and co-op features implemented in what is essentially a single-player experience back in 2009. Interesting to see the same philosophy emerging from multiple Japanese games.

Nier Automata does everything he claims this game does, but way better, without having crappy gameplay

The first time I traversed the mountain next to Heartman’s lab a blizzard came in and prevented me from being able to see 3 feet in front of me. I got unbelievably lost and panicked before remembering I was simply playing a game and could check the map to see my destination. The game is so immersive that I genuinely feared for my life on that mountain. There’s nothing like it

We need community help. We found a secret in Death Stranding. If you find a mushroom pee on it ! Why? Because with several players wee wee on same mushroom it makes a mushroom patch node. How is this helpful? Mushroom patch nodes attracts unlimited water bears that you can eat & collect. If you are in a critical area that you know everyone will be fighting bad guys & there is no mushrooms then pee in safe place & start one. It's hilarious how people are calling Death Stranding a walking simulator, while they licked up Shadow of the Collosus like that game isn't also akin to a walking simulator.

i finally finished the Game now. wow, bravo, it is really rare for a Masterpiece to come out, the last one imo was NieR Automata. And it's even more rare for a Game that makes me Cry at the End. Jesus Christ Kojima made me care for an Virtual Baby. In Videogames of 2019, this was my biggest and best Journey. My Personal Game of the Year.

I think we all got a "wow that was awesome" moment in this game, the first time I was like "this is a different experience than anything I've ever played" Was when I was doing a delivery, it was very heavy, bb was stressed, it was raining, I was close to lose the cargo due to the acid damage and out of nowhere, I've found a rain shelter, playing the most heart warming song... Another player put the shelter there, and it was such a great experience, just different from everything else, cause he literally helped me, In real life, he saved my time, and helped me with the stress I was under, trying hard to finish that deliver and thinking that everything was over, I would lose the cargo and all... It's just something you have to experience yourself. This is coming from a guy who loves from software games, looter shooters and all of those action games. I love Death Stranding, and can't wait to play DS2❤

Currently playing the game. I've completed the rebuild process for almost every road in the central region. Sooooooo many players are still around and I know because the game tells me every single gime a road is used by someone else. Now to get the rest to join the network so I can finish my zipline in the whole area.

I’ve always wanted the game that encapsulates the feel of going on a long journey. No game has ever captured that to the extent that I want it to. I really hope death stranding can do that, considering the core gameplay mechanic seems to be travel.

I revisited the game this weekend to do a few more standard orders and was instantly reminded of how much I enjoyed the gameplay loop. I really hope Kojima does some sort of sequel in this universe with a similar mechanism.

I physically felt tired after journeying through The Last of Us and I wondered if I’d ever get that feeling again. I feel it’s here once again

You and I are here because some of them didn’t. Some of them, be it for self preservation or for the sake of those they care about managed to create a world where you could live. Yes bad people exist. So do good people. The world is not black and white. But the only way forward is together. Some things are instinct, the drive to reproduce. Inherent selfish behavior. But a fundamental part of being human is the ability to use reason, logic. To learn and adapt. Some of us overcome our baser instincts in an effort to grow.

@Rom Art In many ways I thought the same thing as you. But I also think... there is still hope for this world and the people in it. You’re right that many people are mean or selfish. But we must also examine why people behave that way. If there is one thing I think made our world into what it is today, I believe that thing would be Fear. People are scared. Even scared of each other. I won’t pretend I have all the answers. But I think we can only heal the rift in the world with kindness and compassion. The only way we’re going to get more of that in the world is if we do it ourselves. And teach the next generations how to do it too. Instead we seem to be raising the children of the world to fear life itself.

I’m not saying there’s no hope .. no matter how things get there’s never no hope .. but one needs to consider the time as well .. and I can safely say that it’s going to take hell of a time before we reach even mildly the species we could’ve been .. also the fear is necessary cause it keeps us in check to not stray to a low life .. but as you said people use fear in the wrong way and many are those who fear nothing and that makes them even more insane because they go do whatever they want hurting others as well as themselves .. in the end there is hope but at least In our lifetime not much will change .. people have gotten used to living this way now .. it’s harsh but true .. decent people can only live in a cave today mostly it’s a crooked world .. for now at least

@@JusticeInGaming_JIG In a way it seems to be more of a walking simulator, than the games people generally mean when they use the term. Walking is its own actual system of mechanics in Death Stranding, afterall.

This game is awesome. The game mechanics are actually really fun and the story is a tear-squeezer. Soundtrack is insane and you will never forget you played it.

Great review, mate. You’re quickly becoming one of my favorite KZreadr’s and one of the few I can actually trust when it comes to subjective, well thought out criticism

Surreal this the first new non mgs kojima game in like 15 years

After 114 hours and 91% in trophy progression all I can say is yer I kinda think this game is fucking brilliant up there with MGS 1 and 3 for me as one of kojimas finest games give this game a chance no matter what the Internet tells you it's not for everyone but no piece of art should be.

this was such an incredible review!! i've watched reviews both from people who liked the game, and people who hated it, but even amongst the ones who liked it, none of them managed to capture the awe and appreciation that you did here. you've officially sold me on this game hahaha i find it so interesting that people seemd to hate the multiplayer experience - i played the remaster for journey, and it has a very similar mp dynamic (that im not sure was in the original one) that i absolutely LOVED. the only difference was that you could actually see the players, but the only ways to interact with them was to let out that wordless beep, or to stand near them and have your robes recharged (i think?? it's been a while). nonetheless, simply the knowledge that there was another person on the same map as you made me feel incredibly connected and empathetic. i'm glad to see kojima felt the same way, and i'll get to experience that again!

Had a feeling it was gonna be divisive based on the TGS showing, though gotta really applaud Kojima for going such a road, you don’t see such a thing in AAA games. Anyways, you loving it a great plus for me.

HTHAMMACK1 or maybe he actually likes it. Just because you think it looks or sounds boring doesn’t mean others will too. I think that open world games like assassins creed odyssey and the Witcher 3 are extremely boring but I understand that many people think they are amazing and that’s ok

There's one thing wrong with this review. It says that if I did not like MGS games I won't like DS. That's wrong - I strongly dislike MGS for it's tonal disarray,and approached DS thinking I'll hate it. And now it's my favorite game of all time, simply because it added sincerity to the equation.

Honestly, one of the biggest takeaways I see from the reactions to this game is that it will set apart Kojima fans from Metal Gear fans.

@Aditya Patil they are a company after all, and time is money. in their annual report they did take note of the games failings and want to spend more time on games. they dont exactly have the freedom they want to truly do something innovative (not to say they cant after they almost reinvented assassins creed after is stagnation). its not the same thing as kojima where he really has alot of creative control and less restrictions.

I love slow and simple games. One of my all time favorites is firewatch, the world was empty, there were no other humans, there was only two animals briefly seen, there was no challenge, it didn't even try to look realistic, bug it was still one of the best games I've ever played. It was like traversing a beautiful painting the whole time.

I played this game for about 10 hours. I got bored. I was distracted by other things. I didn't play it again for months. Then I played it again... I got a little further... It got kinda satisfying. Then I played it for a few hours more... Holy mother of god!!!! This thing is off the wall! It's insane! I'm not done with it yet, but oh boy, this game is unreal.

I'm not sure if the plot makes perfect sense.There's a couple of characters that I'm not keen on (Mama in particular). I think my biggest criticism is that I never felt much emotional attachment to the characters, especially BB. For a game that's all about connections, it's a real failing that I didn't feel connected. It's not without its flaws. Some dodgy button mapping and menus. It's still mint though and I'm very glad I persevered with it.

as someone with no interest in ever playing this, I am happy it exists. games should be unique and stand out

Have had a great feeling this game would be polarizing for a while now.

Dude has literally said he is a Kojima fan. Am very weary about this review.

The quest where you transport the lady who wanted to reunite with her lover, then not just a hundred meters out of her place an accompanying melo music plays.. I felt joy.. This game is just so therapeutic, at least to me.

The perfect, unbiased review of this amazing accomplishment. Congrats!

That review shows exactly why I think Skill Up is the best reviewer. Thanks, mate.

I've waiting for a game to make traversal interesting for years and finally we have one. I love how Skillup has the ability to understand this and get it across on the review. Something you wont find in the joke of a review from IGN

@A D from what I've seen, it would be boring(for me). Having to balance your weight and everything just dont seen fun at all. Using the paraglider and being able to scale everything in BotW at least was never a chore, which this game seems to be

@@MrPedrogiorgi A chore for you possibly. Can promise that level of detail is not a chore for others. It's where the challenge of preparation and problem solving lies. Funnily, BotW has never appealed to me and I never got what people found fun. Doesn't make it bad, just not for someone like me.

This review is one of the best you've done yet. When I heard the video was ending I was like "wait, it's already over?" A Brief Review indeed. Can't wait to get my hands on this game.

When you heard video ending, did it bring a tear to your eye? I mean, me neither. I'm not crying, I've just been chopping up some onions...been making a lasagna...for one :'-(
