I’m an Australian. I’ve been to Singapore. It had a warning on my passenger card I’d be executed for bringing in drugs. I don’t believe in the death penalty but everyone knows the consequence so if one chooses to smuggle drugs into Singapore than I have zero sympathy. None at all.

That and the fact that it is a passive law. If Singapore could suddenly get up and jump around, causing "accidental drug trafficking", I'd definitely object but the country is stationary. To get hit by that law, you must be the one pro-active in bringing in drugs to the country.

Quoting what Minister Shanmugam said, "a single hanging of a drug trafficker is a tragedy; a million deaths from drug abuse is a statistic". I fully agree with this statement. Prevention is always better than cure.

@@danielc2701 I agree with you. Moreover, I find it such a hypocrisy that these anti-death penalty talk about “nobody has a right to rob a life away” or “two wrongs don’t make one right”. If they want to advocate no death penalty only for drug offences, then should be for all crimes as well. I don’t see them protesting against death penalties for Anthony Ler or Huang Na’s killer. These people tend to think drugs are not that bad. That’s really naive thinking.

@@zous2210 That only happens because it is illegal. Nobody going into a weed dispensary in a legal place is going to buy heroin after, since the government can actually regulate the marketplace. If they are only able to buy from dealers, then of course the dealers will try to sell them other drugs. Weed is only a gateway drug in places where it is ILLEGAL. Alcohol, a drug, isn’t banned because people would drink even if it was illegal, but lack of regulations would make it much more dangerous. Relegating stuff to the black market has the opposite effect.

No compromise should be given to anyone who traffic drugs into Singapore. If you be lenient to certain groups of people, a low iq person for example, it would only encourage the drug lords to use more of such people as their drug traffickers

Since when do drug lords care if their mules live or die? Their objective is to traffic drugs into Singapore. If their mules are caught the drugs are confiscated by the authorities. The death of lowly drug mules makes no difference to drug lords. Because either way they are still losing their product.

As it is, there is a Gambling exclusion recourse, where one or their families members can exclude oneself from casino or even Singapore pools or even approach for counselling. With modern tech today i.e VPN, anyone can simply bypass our firewall and surf gambling websites where odds are further stack against the gambler. Or a gambler would seek the thrill of illegal gambling dens. At end of day, authority is not omnipresent and there is that much authority can do, when they've warn and educated us of the harm such activities will bring. At end of day, such "woke" culture stir division. Instead of criticizing only the system, why not enter the system to really understand no issue is what it seems and become part of the system to improve from within ... oh wait, I forgot ... I am a Singapore citizen. I must admit that I do not know the facts of this case, and I also get to learn about the case from the report made by our national newspaper, The Straits Times. This drug trafficker Nagaenthran K Dharmalingam was arrested in 2009 (I stress: not 2019) at the age of 21 (I stress: not below 18 whom we regard as minor) with a bundle of heroin strapped to his thigh (I stress: the drug was NOT found in his luggage or vehicle or other belongings away from his body). He was sentenced to death by our High Court in 2010 after being convicted of trafficking 42.72g of heroin. He was executed on 27 April 2022. One of the issues considered was whether his mental responsibility was substantially impaired at the time of his offence. After considering the facts and expert evidence from FOUR psychiatry and psychology experts, our High Court held that Nagaenthran knew what he was doing, and upheld the death sentence in 2017. The court noted that he was continuously altering his account of his education qualifications, ostensibly to reflect lower educational qualifications each time he was interviewed. In 2019, the Court of Appeal said it was satisfied that Nagaenthran clearly understood the nature of his acts. It noted that he knew it was unlawful for him to be transporting drugs and he tried to conceal the bundle by strapping it to his left thigh and wearing a large pair of trousers over it. This was the working of a criminal mind, weighing the risks and countervailing benefits associated with the criminal conduct in question, the court added. Again, this Nagaenthran is a Malaysian and he was aged 21 when he was caught for drug trafficking. Therefore, although his IQ is so-called determined to be at 69, anyone still insists that he is a intellectually disabled person, we must take note that, among many other material particulars, the following non-crime related points: 1. He was 21 - an adult and not a minor; AND 2. He has applied for and possessed and used an international passport to travel from his country (Malaysia) to go to a cross border destination (Singapore) on his own; AND 3. He knows how to clear the immigration checkpoint at his country on his own; AND 4. He knows how to attempt to clear the Singapore immigration checkpoint on his own; AND 5. He was fully aware that a bundle of something was strapped to his thigh at the material time, AND 6. He did not carry any intention at all to declare the item that was oddly strapped to his thigh when he was clearing the immigration checkpoint in Singapore. In this respect, to argue that he is incapable to understand every of his acts at all is too far stretching. Finally, the intention of my writing here is to just share my views about this case, and I do not intend to debate with anyone as to whether should the death penalty be abolished in Singapore or globally.

Its a sad ending. But worst is the monster who most likely made him do it - most likely this person is not caught. But if Singapore had allowed the Nagenthran to live and just serve jail sentence because if his low IQ - we know more drug cartels are going to use this method in the future.

I suggest to interview family members of those who took drugs, about what they went through. And ask their opinions on the death penalty. Since they are the ones directly impacted by the drug situation, their opinions matters the most. Those that have not experienced it first hand may never truly comprehend the destruction of drug abuse.

Youre talking in that whay like somebody took somebody hand and make him addict , its not just drugdillers foult and with killing you not make everithing go away ! Real problem is in peoples tham selfe who use drugs ! Pretty much need work with childrens in school and also parents need to educate childrens about that muvh more ! I just see as other parents just drop kids near school and going to work they even not talk to children much ! I know that in my childhud parents was working alot they havent much time for me to talk about alot of staff ! I gues i aducated alot myselfe about everithing in internet and i not seling drugs or using or anithing else bad ! But i know alot of kids who was in problems somebody in prison but i know they had terrible childhud boath parents was drinking and bit him up pretty badly and in school no care about it also not broke bones i gues too ! I gues he took pretty bad direction whan started to drink alot all that adictions starting with alcohol !

Why should we be the "gracious", "big hearted", and "forgiving" ones when that's exactly what drug lords, or any bad person, exploit on? Name any of such gracious county that is safer than sg. Also, the rules of the game has been set. For decades. The whole world knows it's a death sentence if caught in sg. Surprise surprise, thousands of families are still destroyed by drugs. How is lowering the punishment gonna help deter and improve the situation? People who take drugs for fun, then yes, fault's on them. People who take drug as a means of escape, yes they really need help. Medical help and support. But this is a separate issue from punishment of smugglers.

Singapore is more humane than many other places, try humanity somewhere else.

Please note that the recent case where the guy is a person with low IQ - you think the police investigating the crime from start getting caught until proceedings to court are stupid? You think the lawyers and judge are stupid? Some people have to work hard to pass a test, but everyone can easily fail an IQ test on purpose. IQ test is just a test, it don't cover every angle. The people investigating and the court must have found that this IQ claim is not valid and evidence and findings on the case shows that the guy is indeed guilty. Of all our drug trafficking cases, there were in fact exceptions to the capital punishments of hanging on past cases, so to say we don't go by case by cases basis is untrue. We are already doing it just that we don't say it.

The defendants were allowed to get doctors to test their client. The conclusion was that, while his IQ was lower than average, it still wasn’t enough to absolve him of culpability. Of course, neither our local activists or the foreign media reported this. The death of 1-2 drug traffickers is a tragedy, the national devastation drugs would bring-already evident throughout the rest of Southeast Asia-is a statistic.

Don't waste our taxpayer money feeding these drug traffickers in jail, death penalty is the way to go.

1 of my friend couldn't even see his mum the last time when she passed on due to cancer becos he was in prison for consumption, possession and trafficking (no death sentence. Only 5 yrs imprisonment). Another friend got caught for consumption got 6 months jail and 6 months tagging. But drugs made his business closed down becos he only cares about drugs not his business. Another friend drown to death in the sea after taking drugs. He was an experienced swimmer. Also heard a lot of stories of friends' friends jump off building, robbery, car accident, break-in and etc all becos of drugs.

Well said, even with death penalty, there are still ppl taking the chance, if it’s removed, you will be ‘inviting’ more of those ppl to take the chance. U can see for yourself from other countries. That makes Singapore a much safer place compared to other countries.

That just isn’t true. Indonesia and China execute way more drug dealers than Singapore, and they have huge problems with meth and heroin trafficking, as does the US, which sentences repeat drug dealing offenders to life. The countries that have the least issues with drugs are the ones which are most prosperous and treat addicts with most compassion, like Portugal, Sweden, and Switzerland. Singapore is safe because it is prosperous, not because of the laws. When people are economically desperate enough, laws mean nothing to them.

Alcohol is one of the hardest drugs and is legal in Singapore. Looking at “drugs” as some monolithic category is, quite honestly, very naïve and unobjective. It is weird coming from a country whose citizens are highly educated on all other fronts. Also, I must add, drugs are used secretly by many Singaporeans, just like every other place in the world. They are just really expensive and thus profitable for the criminal syndicates that traffic them. The guys getting caught are all low level traffickers. The kingpins are not affected, just their underlings. Singapore is mostly safe because of its economic prosperity, not the strictness. Many ultra strict places have serious drug problems due to poverty. If the death penalty actually prevented the drug trade, the government wouldn’t have to keep applying it…

The shortest lady in specs at SMU made an excellent point. The point on sending a harsh message to drug dealers from other countries. SG has no room to let drug dealers from other countries to mess up our stability, peace, and safety. The death penalty applies to everyone including foreigners, hence foreigners will not see SG as an easy hotbed to carry out drug activities or to use SG as a hub to carry out their drug dealings. Go and read up how Mexico and many other south American countries are so screwed up because of big drug lords and big drug problems that cause cahoots on the streets - in the form of murders. SG has no room for such occurrences to take place!!

The death penalty is the only language understood by drug traffickers. Without it, there will be more drug traffickers. Keeping them alive in jail means wasting taxpayers money down the drain.

I have a cousin that is an drug abuser. In out of prison. Heartbroken mother, that leads a good middle income in sg. If he does not goes back to drugs, I am sure he could just sit around retire at 45 enjoy life which he had reach when he was out of prison. I myself was introduced to marajuna in my teenage. Sure it is not additive, but believe me, I have seen many starts from marajuna to heroin to ice etc etc. I was lucky, a good friend got me out before my life detoriate, also NS plays a part. Drugs harm so many people and breaks so many peoples heart.

Based from your disclosure it means that there are still many free running drug traffickers not being caught within Singapore. Death penalty should stay and I for one support the drug possession limit should set lower to deter drug use.

The death penalty is effective, this cannot be disputed, Singapore is exemplary in that respect, this complex issue cannot be handled without fault

Nobody has the rights to against death penalty for drug trafficking if you are not the family members of drug victims. I fully support death penalty as it will not be affected to anyone who comply with the law.

Death penalty is set as a deterrent but if the person chose not to be deterred, then face the consequences! Simple as that!

Simple, if yoy want to pry your 'trade' and avoid death penalty, don't come Singapore. There are other countries that abolished death penalty that suits to your trade. Just go there.

When traffiikers are caught, they (in collaboration with lawyers) will plead unsound mind, low IQ, blah blah blah. The death penalty MUST stay, period. Maybe upping the penalties for drug consumers/addicts? This would definitely reduce the demand here.😁

Well those who says life imprisonment isn't thinking logistically as well. Singapore do not have the land resource to house so many prisoners if drug trafficking is brought to only life imprisonment instead of death penalty. Also remember Singapore is country where overseas people cross over constantly imagine the impact it would be if all drug traffickers smuggle drugs into Singapore and create a huge distribution center for drugs in Singapore they would be huge drug businesses which will ruin Singapore. People of Singapore have to think many steps ahead before giving too much compassion to drug traffickers. They will ruin the whole country, and our currency will drop drastically.

Based on what Ive observed, overcrowded prisons have two consequences to the common person - first is higher taxes to cover operation costs as others have highlighted and second if not the former then the system will have to release criminals of lesser degree back on the streets, for eg theft, robbery or battery cases.

Those who object to the death penalty should step back and go volunteers at places that have a drug trafficking problem. YOU have not seen the horrors of drugs till you see a infant born and immediately suffering from drug withdrawal symptoms, families destroyed by a single substance, loved ones lost, respected community members disgraced. Even with the death penalty, people still test the system and try to get away with it. Before commiting any crime, they must know the law first. Death penalty stays.

The death penalty for certain drug offences has been around for a long time. Whether it is effective or not, it is not for you to question. We have it there for our own reasons and will not yield or bend the rules. In recent years, Malaysia has been sending over their drug mules over to Singapore. Do these people know the consequences of their actions? Sure they do, regardless if they have low IQ etc because this is not an excuse or a sneaky way to extricate oneself out of the consequence. Otherwise, drug dealers will start employing low IQ folks to smuggles drugs here. The worst thing the Malaysians did was to pressure their own king to seek clemency which fortunately Singapore did not yield either. You don't want your people killed in S'pore? Simple, just don't send these folks to our country. Keep them to yourselves. Your country seemed more concerned with the lives of the few individuals but ignores the well being of the larger population out there had you decide to rectify ICERD (International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination) What an irony.

If you interview people who actually have family members that are addicts, they will tell you death penalty is too kind.

Yes, we have been moving towards a very inclusive n forgiving society in these two decades. It's making people abused and bent the laws. Have to stand firm on some boundaries to keep our country at a higher level of social safety standard.

Same as for murder, if women murders, they also face the same penalty as men. No different. So what are you talking about?? Get your knowledge right.

@@wassup139 It is YOU who duno what you are talking about. Capital punishment is of course given across the board for the worst crimes. But statistically speaking, women are still dealt with more leniently and serve lesser jail time than men for the same offense.

Drug traffickers not welcome into Singapore but if you insist, CNB is watching and the the gallows is on standby..

Once you have gone over the limit = death sentence. End off story. It has kept our island safe and sound for 50plus years and going strong. Let's keep it this way.

The lady who suggested life imprisonment for Drug Traffickers certainly does not know how expensive it is to incarcerate someone. No Death Penalty should stay ! Not only that, sentence should be carried out quickly, if the evidence of intention to traffic drug into Singapore is strong.

2:00 Lady suggested life imprisonment, where they can reflect on what they did and repent from their mistake. No girl, these traffickers don't think it was a mistake as they decided to traffic drugs despite knowing Singapore has a death penalty as it'll make them lots of money. Getting caught is their mistake.

We are already a rapidly ageing and low birth rate population do these activists have any idea what drugs will do to the only natural resource we have ? Our people. Only 2/3 million citizens leh can we lose 100k citizens from drugs like USA ??? 💀 must stay and i would even say removing it would be an existential issue for singapore. It’s a no brainer I’m all in with the mosaic uncle … death penalty is the only solution. I’m not going to pay tax to fed a Bunch of drugs traffickers till their days meet naturally, these scums serve no human rights even their dignity, not only themselves but their entire family should be shame as well .

I have friends who sell drugs. When I told them the penalty in Singapore for trafficking. They said that they would abandon the business. We Americans need to follow Singapores lead

The only thing I disagree is the severity of penalty is less for the molesters and rapists than the drug addicts. Stop coating drugs affects a lot of people over this. Sexual harassment are way more traumatic to individuals and they have to go through it everyday. Otherwise, would be fair enough

I do think that the punishment for rape and traffic crime and white collar crime needs to go up. But molestation, while devastating to the victim and the criminal should really be severely punished ... is not quite comparable to a single drug pusher who sell drugs to multiple drug addicts. It is more akin to ... a mass molester who strikes every few says with multiple victim per day... can't believe I am positing such a comparison but that is where the logic leads. So drug trafficker deserves more severe punishment than molestation. But the punishment for sexual, traffic and whire collar crime do need to go up.

Because you can clearly prove possession of drug, while rape and sexual harassment is usually settled subjectively and with many grey areas. Its always he says this, she says this. And we all know with regards to rape accusations, its always guilty until proven innocent, which is very unfair for the plaintiff and guys in general.

Drugs have a much larger and devastating effect on a society than one random molester.

The issues that death traffickers bring into Singapore is huge and cause much suffering. Life imprisonment is expensive. I wonder why Singaporeans forget that fact. Who is going to pay not only for sufferings caused by the traffickers and also the cost of keeping them alive? Who? I for one do not want to support them for the rest of their and my life. Nor do I think SG has the space to house them. Although on this case... with his IQ... There is a big case to be had that he is really not in the right mind or IQ... But then again, if we make an exception, more exceptions must be made in the future...

Drug traffickers do that they do for personal gains in exchange of ruining people's lives. If that's the gamble they are willing to take, then they have to face the consequences of losing the game. If drugs are easily accessible in the society, it will trickle down to even more societal issues.

It actually doesn't ruin anyone's life if they choose not to consume drugs. It's a choice. Cigarettes and alcohol are vices which cause societal and bodily harm too and yet they're allowed, so your point is? At the end of the day, if you cave to the addiction, then you're just weak as fk and deserve the health consequences coming your way. Govt is pathetic for trying so hard to micromanage people's lives. Leave em be. Weak ones will kill themselves off first on drug overdose, who cares.

I believe there must have tons and tons of research, analysis, discussion and etc conducted before Singapore government implement death penalty back then… there must be something logic and strong reasonable point behind that make Singapore retain death sentence until now. Please think of the consequences if you pay just even 1% sympathy to drug smugglers or traffickers … the impact is huge for Singapore.. Zero tolerance to Drugs

My friend's brother is in and out of prison cause of drugs, i have a close friend of mine was high on drugs and jumped down from a HDB flat. Leaving his mother alone to care for herself, these drug traffickers only want one thing, to make money and because of these monies, they never thought of other's lives they maybe harming by selling these drugs to families.

what if our prison is packed with a lot of 'life imprisonment sentences for drug traffickers, then they would have to hire more police or patrol guards and etc. what a waste of manpower, money, and energy. I agree with that blue shirt man. hanging is not the 'root' of the problem.

How effective is the "protection" provided by the death penalty? Drug dealing has not stopped. There are still many drug addicts. The claim that it will be worse without the death penalty is an assumption. It is not a fact.

Laws are written for a reason. For you not to break them. Do the deed and pay the price. Hvg a low IQ is not a mitigating factor. Otherwise the drug dealers will start recruiting all kinds of people with all kinds of handicap.

Drugs trafficking is terrible to anyone as its taking people life too even before any penalty! We wont say that we are harsh rather we need to be strict n have necessary discipline in our laws!!

The issue of death penalty for any drug trafficker caught in Singapore, be it local or foreign, had been clearly thought through and decisively settled upon more than 50 years ago when the drug menace in Singapore was still at its budding stage. Tough societal issues need tough laws to control their menaces. Don't waste time trying to reinvent the wheel by revisiting these tough laws on drugs. They have served Singapore superbly to this day. To the 20% who choose to go on the merry-go-round of debating the death penalty for drug traffickers, please make better use your brain to tackle equally more challenging societal issues like climate change, persistent widening income gap between the haves, have lesser, have little and have-nots and the perpetual rising cost of living in Singapore. Can?

HI peeps. Australian Resident here. our drug laws have resulted in an incredible mental health burden that our economy is unlikely to be able to support. We are seeing an increasing amount of youth harming, threatening suicide, becoming delinquents, and engaging in drugs at an earlier age. Unfortunately, once they get into it, its incredibly hard to pull them out of it. in the majority of cases, they will continue to abuse way into their mid-life. Singapore has youth mental health disorders that result from a competitive and stressful career-oriented learning life...i still think that your problem far less severe than the Youth Drug problem we have in Australia.

Drugs do bugger many people, not only users but EVERYONE around starting from loved ones next to ie. family/friends/flatmates then neighbours then all the way to communities. It's often true that 2 wrongs don't make one right but prevention of escalating or even starting drug issues is better than cure.

Rather have more emphasis on rehabilitation than a ticket to heaven

singapore is a potentially lucrative market to any illegal drugs producer so they are trying to bend singapore's will... for example: sri lanka government closes both eyes on drugs trafficked in via india.. singapore residents & visitors protesting against their drug laws , should leave and stay elsewhere.. same for those whom buy and consume: there's no mercy on them and their loved ones , without the death penalty the situation will be worse.. the drug exporters are aware of singapores' actions and are pressuring the country into yeilding: the hanged suppossedly intellectually subnormal indian was another ploy by these drug lords to pressure singapore into yeilding..

The uncle and the lady who was standing near the road junction made very fair points. The death penalty is not ALWAYS implemented and is there to show potential drug traffickers the consequences. Softening the punishment will no longer work as even with the death penalty some people will ALWAYS do the wrong thing. With less drug traffickers, the potential victims who want to turn to drugs will be forced to find a different way to cope, one that will actually help them. To soften rules that makes Singapore safer than other countries, will eventually make us just like America one day. Even if the victims are not the one being affected, their families would be suffering, knowing that they tried but still could nt help them. And anyway, the death penalty is not exactly a lowkey punishment that is not well known. People have been reminded time and time again and is even discussed openly adn yet people still smuggle them in because of money? how is that our fault?? However, the recent case regarding the man who is mentally unsound, that is an exception as he may not realise his actions, but if he is fully aware, alert and still does it, he deserves the death penalty.

In my humble opinion, if u decide to commit a crime by making a living or profit via victimising others, u have forfeited your "rights" to be treated fairly by society. If not, why would anyone behave themselves and follow the law? On the other hand if a person have serve his due in prison or whatever punishment the legal system which was given by the judge, these "rights" must be return to them and we as a society need to accept and treat them fairly.

To people who are against the death penalty...how about a diff perspective of this issue...If these people continue living in the prison system under the "life sentence"... where do you think the money to feed them daily come from? Well..It from the country's taxes that you and i both contribute to...So if we were to put it simply, if these people were given life sentences....we are indirectly paying for their food and survival...Now do you want to give your money to provide for these fools? Life imprisonment->tax->pay for their living->who pay tax->us-> we are paying for drug offenders livelihood.

You could make them work as a part of punishment. The condition doesn't have to be inhumane like Russian or Chinese labor camps, but I never understood why developed countries don't make labor a part of prison sentence.

@@xiphoid2011 Here's a counter argument to your response. When you allow life imprisonment to the traffickers', what do you think will happen next? More of this guys will go in for the kill with their mindset of, "Oh hey! If I'm caught, I'm only going to get the life imprisonment, so there's no harm in that." Now you compared that to our current legal system, this guys would be, "OH CRAP! I'm going to die if I bring those drugs in. I rather not risk it." See the analogy here? There's a number of reasons why this law is set in stones. One of the main reason is to send a strong message to the drug lords and traffickers' that if you ever set foot in Singapore, we'll make sure that you won't be getting it off lightly. This in its' right, will prevent drug cases from going up and save families from such disaster. And no matter how harsh the death penalty is, in the words of our founding father, Mr. Lee Kuan Yew, as he quote, "One death is too kind." - 'Lee Kuan Yew's interview with Tim Sebastian on BBC HARDtalk'

@@akaakiru I'm not against death penalty, I actually support keeping it. But I think death penalty should only be used for the worst crimes, not just any guy who brought drugs into Singapore. Like it or not, lots of people use drugs, so if an amount can reasonably be for personal use shouldn't get the death penalty. I personally would only give death penalty for drug kingpins or the likes. For users or small fish then lesser punishment is appropriate. Being reasonable should be a hallmark of good and modern legal system.

The concept of drugs is a grey area especially where one is not from the medical community. But the one we're referring to is those that can put one's world into demise. Which is why, the law was invented for this. Catching kingpins is no simple feat my friend. If this was the case, drugs would never be a problem in the first place. This drug lords are very smart and cunning. Which is why they use traffickers or we call them, baits who would do their bidding. At the end of the day, it's not about assigning who gets the harsher punishment or not. It has always been about deterring crime and sending a strong message which I have previously stated. This folks knew the risk and I can tell ya, they're not dumb. They're risk takers. If you want to impose the western mentality and it's system in Singapore, I can tell ya that our community will be fucked from ground under. Because drug really ruins life..

@@akaakiru I'm a Chinese who grew up in China, studied and now lives in the west. So unlike some westerners I have no problem with death sentences itself. The problem is when the law is more draconian than even Chinese laws, that means it probably has went too far from being reasonable. So yeah, mandatory death sentences for minor drug use is too extreme even by eastern stands.

Even with the death penalty, we have so many cases and attempts...look at the recent 6kg Sentosa drug case. If we didnt have the death penalty, we would be overwhelmed. What I hope to see is the death penalty for paedophiles, child rapists and who traffick children.

I really like what the first women they interview has to say (0:47 and 2:06) because we tend to believe that people commit crimes just for the sake of it, which couldn't be farther from the truth most of the time. I'm not saying that criminals should be forgiven due to their circumstances, but taking social dynamics into consideration can help us battling crime rates more effectively in the long-run than just trying to set a warning example by executing those who break the law

Need to paste ‘GST’ big big on the sticker board and people will think twice about supporting life imprisonment instead of death penalty. I’m a realist, you should be one too. Support death penalty.

And states and countries, as amalgamation of their citizen's will, have the right to the on violent to defend their own sovereign right as well as the wellbeing of their citizen against other aggressor. And drug trafficker are one such aggressor.

just look at USA, million family destroyed with drugs rampant. death penalty is a small price to pay to enable millions protected from this pain.

I do not understand why some people still says death penalty does not deter drug trafficking... UNLESS people gets away with death penalty in one way or other after getting the sentence (in some less developed countries through corruption), death penalty is a good deterrent for drugs. Just look at the drug problem (or rather lack of drug problem) in Singapore. Numbers speak for itself.

If a general has 1 million soldiers..., it is worth it to execute the 1 million soldiers and go after the general at the same time. If more needs to be executed to get to the general, so be it. They knew what they signed up for and they think the risk is worth it.... they asked for it... and totally deserves it. Of course zero drug problem can't be achieved in Singapore with a port and air hub with such high traffic. But execution helps it reduce trafficking most effectively. As LKY puts it... " one death is too kind".... for the amount of suffering they bring to others.

@@sihanchen7552 hmmm. Let me give you an example of deterrence. Let’s use a second-person narrative for better understanding purposes. Say that one day you go try smuggling drugs here. You are soooo happy and boasts to your friends you earn lots of monehhh. Good profits right? Your friends also want to try. BUT you suddenly got caught! And attend trial and given death penalty. Soon, your friends learned about it and that you’re going to face the death penalty. The question is, will your friends follow your footsteps to smuggle drugs and see if they can get away with earning lotsa monehhh OR will they scramble away and not play with the law knowing they’ll face the same fate as you??? If you say your friends will scramble away, that’s what DETERRENCE means. And deterrence has so far worked for SG in terms of dealing with drug problems.

Take a look at Los Angeles.. its a drug infested crime ridden area now, and many people are leaving. They have dropboxes for used syringes. Thats how bad it is. If a death penalty that has been in place for decades cannot deter people from still trying, what do you think will happen when they remove this law? One death is too kind because they destroy hundreds and thousands of families.

The drug problem has destroyed the lives of tens of millions of people in the US, and hundreds of millions more to come. Singapore got the idea of solving the drug problem from the US military, which is why drug usage isn't a big problem in the US military or Singapore.

If Spore set its policy clearly n if u still want to push your luck n challenge it, then dont try to teach us or argue your rights n wrongs about death penalty when u are caught. For every action theres a consequence. You made the choice of action n you need to face the consequences of your action. Simple as that. You get caught then u want to talk about human rights. What about the victims of those drugs u smuggle, u kill them too.
