He died around the time I first heard the Ramones. Summer of 2001. My 10-year old self was blown away and my life would never be the same again. RIP Joey, Johnny, Dee-Dee, Tommy, and Arturo.

I cant believe I saw them in Santa Cruz CA in 1979 in front of 250 people. No way back then you would have convinced me they would one day be legends. That seems insane now.

There will never be anyone like Joey Ramone ever again...great front man..saw them 4 times back in the early and mid 80s..they never disappointed...greatly missed...all of them...RIP

With maximum respect to Joey and all of The Ramones, I've just joined a tribute band as front man, I'll make sure the songs are played as they should be played and can only hope I do Joey and The Ramones proud. May the legend live on.

The best punk rock band ever

It was a sad day when one of the pioneers of the influential punk rock movement passed on, but in some ways he was lucky to not live to see the aftermath of a horrible decade, which has indeed ushered in a big brother type of apocalyptic state. Joey represented the best of classic era Americana when music on the radio was decent for the most part, Levi's were made in the USA and there wasn't so much of a general feeling of paranoia and insecurity.
