I am writing this on 13/10/2017, exactly 18 years since this tragic event. I think about this poor amoeba most days, he was a dear friend, we did so much together. I've tried replication many times a second but no-one will ever replace him. He had so much potential and it is sad to see him taken from our lives so soon :'(

That's..... the most gore filled death I've seen.... Such an awful way to die.... Having your skin broken so that all of your organs can just spill out... I hope that poor amoeba is in a better place now. Now I'm traumatized.

The cell membrane was broken and the hydrostatic pressure inside than outside is responsible for expelling the cytoplasm to the outside.

When I took gravol I swear I actually saw a foot and a half long paramecium as if it were projected on my wall. It stayed there for a little while and I could see its cilia all moving in the same direction. I'd like to see that type of hallucination explained in a rational way. I wasn't thinking about it till I saw it.

i killed 2 blepharisma BY STARING AT THEM under total magnification of 400x today. MIND YOU I KILLED 2 BY STARING!! CLEARLY I AM SO HANDSOME THEY DIED OF SHYNESS

The textbooks say amoebae never die, that they just go on dividing and dividing, producing pairs of daughter cells. Was this one 'dying' because it was in a noxious, ?isotonic fluid, or was this a truly natural event? Thanks for posting this. It's very interesting and unusual. I haven't seen this event before anywhere.
