Death of a river: a community fights back against sewage in their water
Angela Jones has spent her life swimming in the Rivers Wye and Usk. Five years ago she began to notice the impact of raw sewage pollution in the rivers and decided to fight back. Now an army of volunteers have come together to gather data and evidence, and bring about change, before it is too late.

We all need to protest in any way possible. More power to Angela and her group. I’d love to help. Please can you post links to their channels & websites.
Well done it’s about time people started standing up to these big companies. 👍
Why the likes of utilities are private companies is part of the problem, profit over everything else, we need to make these companies understand that they have to clean up their act and they need to help to educate the general public also not spend money advertising. I’m looking at you Thames Water advertising to the likes of myself who live completely outside your area, why!

No that’s not what’s needed. They need to be re nationalised. Privatisation has failed miserably because there was no competition or financial incentives to invest in the future health of our rivers.

@@Gazmaz It will happen if Joe Public wants it to happen enough. We have to stop being so passive as a nation. We sit back and watch our politicians mess things up and then just moan about it. The French over turn burning cars , and block motorways with tractors until the Government pulls its finger out. It’s up to us in the end. We have own this mess….and then take action.
More stories like this, please! This woman is an inspiration, as are all the people who've joined her to clean up & care for their little corner of the planet.
This is what happens when profits are not reinvested in the infrastructure. It's a disgrace.
Well done you! Thank you for standing against the polluters.
Good woman well done
Terrible. I worked at coca cola in OZ. They had their own water treatment on site. The water had to be pure to use. It also had to be clean to go back into the river. It was monitored all day with tech. We used to physically inspect it every day. Not difficult to do. Certainly affordable for large companies. I fished rivers in the Uk. Even back in the 80s we questioned why we paid fees as rivers never got the right attention.

Complacent and in denial.Their staff rarely visit to observe rivers and experience the declines and challenges. They will however prosecute me if I dont pay my rod licence.
Put this brave lady in charge. Brilliant.
Wow she’s ripped! She is super impressive- she seems the type of disciplined person who gets stuff done. I am glad she decided to fight for clean water!! I feel like she is the kind of person who can actually make a difference.

Great work by the community.
and making customers pay for their lack of improving water systems over many years they need to be taken to court
Nice work. Ur awesome sauce from l.a california
As well as the water companies discharging, there are misconnected domestic property grey water/ toilet drains attached to surface water drains installed by either victorian plumbers or modern day incompetent workers straight into water courses.

Well, in Regensburg people are swimming in the Danube, in Vienna it has drinking water quality. If you look at the Rhine river or even the river Ruhr you can see what local communities can achieve.

@@peter_meyer ‘Shit happens’: a community fights to save their river 2112pm 13.4.23 i have just watched a skit re: florida flooding due to sever rains.. evidence of what folk have to go through when infrastructure is not geared to dealing with such events.. maybe even California will have to get ready to deal with issues of a watery nature..? as for danube, and if news skits via germany are to be believed, the danube... due to mass forest clearances in Romania and the like and due to re-routing of water courses, is losing it's power and has dried up in some regions - if i believe the news casts i am watching, that is... these eco idiots will believe what suits them - champion such aktions as the guardian, here, highlights then pooh-pooh other issues which bring to light communities ruining their environments...

Heroes aren't people fighting on foreign soil. It's people like this lady. If all of us did 10% of what she's doing we'd live in a way better world.
The real question is , how did us Brits allow this travesty to happen in our own backyard? We trusted successive Governments over many decades that they would make sure that there was long term investment that would have prevented this from happening. We must look at ourselves as a nation. Our railways / nhs / education / roads / water are all on their knees. Why have we allowed this to happen?
Supporting Ukraine and forgetting their own rivers lol
You're a couple hundred years too late, no undoing the sins of the world.
