Death Note (Japanese: デスノート, Hepburn: Desu Nōto) is a Japanese manga series written by Tsugumi Ohba and illustrated by Takeshi Obata. Before Minoru TanakaThe story follows Light Yagami, a teen genius who stumbles across a mysterious otherworldly notebook: the "Death Note", which belonged to the Shinigami Ryuk, and grants the user the supernatural ability to kill anyone whose name is written in its pages. The series centers around Light's subsequent attempts to use the Death Note to carry out a world-wide massacre of individuals whom he deems morally unworthy of life to change the world into a utopian society without crime, using the alias of a god-like vigilante named "Kira" ("キラ", the Japanese transliteration of the English word: killer) and the subsequent efforts of an elite task-force of law enforcement officers, consisting of members of the Japanese police force, led by L, an enigmatic international detective whose past is shrouded in mystery, to apprehend him and end his reign of terror. In Tokyo, an intelligent yet disaffected high-school student named Light Yagami finds the "Death Note", a mysterious black notebook which can kill anyone as long as the user knows both the target's name and face. After verifying that the notebook works and initially being terrified of its god-like abilities, Light begins to consider the possibilities of the Death Note's abilities and sets out to create a utopian world without crime, killing numerous high-profile Japanese criminals, before eventually targeting international criminals and felons around the world. Five days after discovering the notebook, Light is visited by Ryuk, a "Shinigami," beings inspired by the Japanese god of death and the Death Note's previous owner. Ryuk, who is invisible to anyone who has not touched the Death Note, reveals that he dropped the notebook into the human world out of boredom and is amused by Light's actions
Light Yagami (夜神月, Yagami Raito) is the main protagonist of the Death Note series. After discovering the Death Note, he decides to use it to rid the world of criminals. His killings are eventually labelled by people of Japan as the work of "Kira." Light is characterized as hardworking, talented, and a natural genius. Highly perceptive and good with problem solving, Light was a skilled planner and good at mapping out scenarios. Furthermore, Light was very popular among peers and adored by his family members. However, his high intelligence and constant praise from adults laid the foundation for an intense level of hubris which quickly took effect once he obtained the notebook.
Ryuk (リューク, Ryūku) is a Shinigami who indirectly gives Light Yagami a Death Note after becoming bored with the Shinigami Realm. In an effort to amuse himself, he steals a second Death Note and drops it into the Human World for someone to find. This Death Note is discovered by Light, who uses it in an attempt to cleanse the world of evil and injustice, satisfying Ryuk's need for entertainment.
L (エル, Eru) is a world-renowned detective who takes on the challenge of catching the mass murderer known as Kira. In his investigation, L becomes suspicious of Light Yagami and makes it his goal to prove that Light is Kira.

True, he basically exposed death magic to the world and now any time someone dies there will be this kernel of doubt about if it was a natural death or is it another Kira incident getting ready to happen

"Every single name I write has made their choice, And every innocent I save still has a voice." My favorite lyrics in the whole thing, and really capture the essence of how Light intended to be... Had he not started confusing himself with a God, rather than just a human who got his hands on a tool of one, if he hadn't gotten too comfortable with killing even innocent people if they got in his way, and if he could have simply acknowledged that his deeds were evil on some level, but still serve a greater good, instead of considering himself good no matter what, then he would have been an Antihero instead of an Antivillain, one that I think I would have been on the side of from start to finish... But alas, he had gone from an innocent school kid who could have lived a fulfilling life, albeit one where he could do little besides lament about the injustice in the world, to someone handed the power to actually do something about it, and decided to do so, but then went further to a villain, corrupted by the power he had, becoming the very kind of monster he was trying to rid the world of. And he was then himself killed by the very power he relied on to pass his judgement on not just said monsters, but innocents who were inconvenient to him. In the end, he made his choice... And those inconvenient innocents he had yet to kill still have their voice.

Odd how we can pinpoint exactly when he crossed the line. Raye Penber was just a guy doing his job, who had no reason to suspect Light, and he killed him. Amusingly this only called more attention to Light.

@@ShiftySetax Honestly, it was even further back then that. I can't remember if Raye was there before or after L's investigation, but it was the moment L challenged him that he crossed that threshhold. Why? BEcause he rose to a petty challenge. "If you can kill me, do it!" ...And he did. He didn't have to. He didn't have to rise to the challenge. But he did so because he wanted on some level to prove his power... And that's when it came crumbling down. I'm not saying what Kira did was right or wrong. But acting in the name of Justice became clearly intoxicating to him. It was one thing to go after people who again, had made their choice, who invoked their will on those who were unwilling. But it was the moment that he started taking challenges to his will as attacks on him, that he stopped acting in the name of an interposing force, or a force of retribution, and that he started to believe that, to put it in crude terms, that "his shit didn't stink". Dude just started power-tripping after that. And I mean, he had the tool of a god. I feel part of this was to show that when you HAVE something beyond the ken of a mortal, it shows just how easily you can mistake it's power for your own... When in reality, it was never yours at all. Or perhaps an allegory for how your power still can come from others, and you should never forget that you are a culmination of those you met and experiences you've gained from others, and to forget that is folly. Or perhaps I'm lookin' too deep as a commentator on the internet, and should cool my jets! Either way, y'all have a wonderful day! And lovin' the music, Divide Music!

How ironic
There two ways to tell if it's a great song: 1) It's a song from this channel. 2) The likes count hit 6 digits while the dislikes count is only at double digits (10 at time of writing). That is a true sign of universal approval/quality right there!

Death note's first opening is one of the best song I heard. I don't think that anyone would beat it, but this song change my entire perception "Light" is far beyond and awesome than that good job man

I love what you did musically, during the chorus, the tonic should be minor, but landing on that major tonic on "light" I think fits the lyrics and the story as a whole. Just my opinion, but cool! Good stuff as always

I noticed this too! i think its a symbol. "Light" is supposed to be good, but the majority of Light's personality is dark.
