Really fine job... I need to fix my earbuds, but they are super small, the coil is about 3-4mm diameter, and i think i need to re-do the coil. I'm going to use your step by step procedure carefully. Thanks a lot!!!!

Hola alberto, for driver below 5mm..use microscope.. You should do that easily if you always practice..

Very nice repair video. Thanks for posting. How can you tell where the coil is broken? Is it usually near the start of the coil, for example it breaks due to motion fatigue.

OMG. in 2007 i did all this with a creative headphones thought i was crazy enough cuz i was only 20 and i had all the time in the world .

Very nice !, but you did it with big dynamic drivers, doing this with IEM is already harder, but think of IEM that have BA driver or other or even 3d printed-multi-channel cavity (KZ,TRN,FIIO)...........nightmare...probably must replace driver...still amazing video!

I using binocular microscope (2 eyepieces), not trinocular with camera. So i can not record them yet..Fixing broken iem with driver diameter less than 5mm is every day job on my workshop for almost 7 years. No need to replace the driver for iems.. Its can be fixed, easily.

No.. It would not have difference.. Unless you replacing coil with other voice coil.. (Eg copper color with red one).. Will have difference on soundstage

I had a pair of JBL headphones and I got down to coil and I'm wanting to know if both wires come from the bottom (closest to diaphragm). One was snapped so short I can't tell and can't see wires that clearly in video. I've used Isopropyl alcohol, is this suitable? Please response 🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾😬

I have that rotten luck as well. One end of the coil snapped so close to the coil, that I can't find it anymore.

you have to detach voice coil of membrane, then swabbing the bottom section of voice coil with cotton buds + thinner ND or alcohol 70%.. need a patient untill the end of wires comes. then you can pull that.

The coil's hair-thin wires in my AKG's driver are put in a kind of a red laque. It's just a thin layer and these wires are inside. I don't know what to do here. Can I dissolve it somehow or whatever. Shortly... I've ordered two different pairs of drivers on AliExpress. Now I'm searching about how to properly tune them before assemblying the headphones. The earcushions are glued to the case with a sticky black tape of a certain shape. So I think it's important to not redo the process too much times. What's the tips about tuning them? I've heard something about U-shaped papers... something about holes. More/less bass. How to test this before making the permanent construction?

Please tell us how to know how to test continuity safely. You did not specify how to do it and on what Ohm values to choose, depending on situation.

how do you manage to track the polarity of the coil wires? if you happen to mix them up, the sound wont be centered

Easy, use visual inspection. we have microscope 😁 Plus always on outside of coil, minus always inside of its coil. repair-headphone.com

I accidentally broke the right voice coil terminal of my DT 880 Pro a year ago. I will try to get courage and fix it. What paint thinner did you use? Thank you so much!

halo lucas. common paint thinner - thinner ND, alcohol 70% will do fine. for DT880 pro do not attempt dismantle by your self. due to gap between neodyium magnet and its housing are under 1 mm. need fixture to place it properly, manual installation would only lead to crackling sound due to voice coil hitting surface of the magnet.

I also broke a driver in my DT880 Premium 600 Ohm while balance modding them. Beyerdynamic shipped me a new speaker for $50 had it fixed in just a couple minutes and up and running. I have never tried to unwind a voice coil, I am not an expert but from my understanding this would slightly change the Ohm load and they may not sound perfect between each ear. I may be wrong I have a bunch of cheap headphones I have modded for practice over the years I may just pull out a pair and try for fun.

I liked your video but... This might be a stupid question, but where was the break? Would it not be a good idea to test the coil once you pull the wires out a little bit. Going through all that work, then gluing everything back together and no reading comes up on the volt meter. Well that would be rather disappointing don’t you think?

no reading comes up on the volt meter happens due too the wire of voice coil not properly soldered to solder pad...try increasing the temperature of soldering, or while soldering, hold the solder tips to solder wire and pad about 3 second to ensure good connection.

Use wash benzene, the brand name is zippo lighter liquid.. It would work too

Wi 3000 has 8mm driver, use magnifier as i do on my workshop.. So you dont torturing your eyes with small object

Small questions at first try on old headphone driver the sound got quiter and on the second try on different headphone driver it worked as it was so am I doing something wrong on the first try ?

Because voice coil not centered to the cones. And the voice coil touching magnet while playing. Its has to be precise at the edge of the cones. Solution : reopen the membrane, cut the edge of the membrane about 1mm..then see voice coil fitting, do not hit the mahnet

@@Gabri3l_R for profesional like use. You can use stainless rod, diameter same as voice coil. Just insert then it will fix voice coil. If you diy and want do some macgyver way. Use anything in your house that have round shape and fitted with voice coil.. Maybe pipe or something

Biasanya karena kemasukan material mas mirip gram besi.. Kalo ga vc ga center lagi

Selamat pagi kang Adi, headphones saya DT 780 pro, kasusnya sama seperti dalam video ini, speaker sisi kanan mati, sudah saya bongkar dan pastikan sumber masalah dr kumparan coilnya yg kemungkinan putus, saya ukur yg sebelah kiri tahanannya 80ohm, tetapi yg sebelah kanan hanya 3ohm, walaupun saya paham teori repairnya, tetapi untuk bongkar speaker sepertinya saya masih ragu karena belum pengalaman dan tools juga tidak komplit, apakah kang Adi bisa service headphones saya, boleh minta no Hp untuk saya WhatsApp buat service headphones saya, posisi saya di Jakarta. Harus satu unit iem utuh.. Soalnya ada pengukuran juga via ear simulator, di ukur hanya driver tanpa housing, ga akan benar.

You should pre-coated voice coil wire with solder and tin.. Then apply to solder pad. Or you can just directly solder the wire to solder pad. Wait around 5 second on soldering to ensure wire+solder pad has perfect joint

I'm surprised that these headphones use plastic diaphragm. I think plastic doesn't seem like a good material since it's not rigid. Otherwise, people would use plastic for speaker cone.

97% headphone sold on market are using plastiv diaphragm.. Many has lasted for decades before broken
