Dearborn, MI Snow Emergency December 26th, 2012 10:00PM
Ойын-сауық
This is the second activation of Dearborn's Outdoor Warning Sirens for a snow emergency. Unfortunately, I missed the first activation and I was running late so I had to film while I was driving. I couldn't find the place I wanted to go to. So I went back to where I was earlier this year and was able to get a decent ambiance recording. Siren being heard at the beginning is Levagood Park's 2001 and as I get in the parking lot, you can hear other 2001s and one of U of M's Modulators.

Yes they do. I suggested the EM director that they should sound them off in Fast Wail.
Sort of a small one but the snow was deep enough to where they had to issue an emergency.
I live right around there; drive down the same road a couple times a week.
This is that area around Telegraph and Cherry Hill! It looks so much more eerie in the winter at night.
First time I ever heard sirens off for a snow emergency.
I wish our city would do that
You would be correct.
Hmm, that's odd. I'm out in Ann Arbor and I've yet to hear our sirens go off in a snow emergency.
Some are timed to flash when it's late at night so it makes the traffic on the busier road go faster.
Before Dearborn got its Whelens
nice! wish our sirens would sound for snow emergencies
Was there a blizzard or something like that
They do this with T-128 in attack in Skokie, IL. It lets people know to move cars out of the way!
No, it's just Dearborn. The city seems to like the idea of using their OWSs to issue a snow emergency meaning "Get your vehicles off the street or you will be ticketed or towed." That's what they sound them off for. Otherwise, they would sound off for monthly tests which is 1st Saturdays at 1:00PM and would sound off for bad weather.

I live in Taylor, Mi we only have tornado sirens go off when we have a tornado warning or we have winds gusting up to 70+ mph we should start having tornado sirens go off in Taylor, MI whenever we have a snow emergency to let everybody in Taylor, MI know to get your cars off the street or you will get a nice (sarcastically) ticket and you do not want a ticket.
What lights?
Cherry Hill road near Telegraph?

Dearborn also kept some whelen until 2011 when they where supposed to be replaced in 2008. Why did they keep some? Where the whelens still working around that time?

No, they were all disconnected from service in 2008. WSS hasn't been able to remove all their Whelens at one time. So they left some up until they were able to get back to them.

Siren1000T why did they leave them disconnected they could of had them working with the 2001s and uses alerts signals for warnings and snow emergencies just like the 2001s I mean they probably would of had been compatible with the radios if they had UV controllers on them. Also why did they put up modulators to replace most Whelens? They could have been compatible with the UV Cintrollers

@@brandonbutchart5576 Most of the Mods are on the U of M Dearborn grounds. The only other Mod in Dearborn I know that's part of their city siren is near Greenfield Village.
They need to make a siren just for winter emergencies
Why were the lights flashing?
This is the first time I've ever heard sirens triggered for a snowstorm. Is it common practice in Michigan?

Suzanne Gillespie No only in this city only (Dearborn)
Why would they use tornado sirens as a winter signal for "don't park on the street tonight"?

The sires are not just for Tornadoes. They are used to communicate all sorts of things to the public. Tornado, chemical spill, large amounts of snow. Severe flooding and attack from other militaries. Pretty much anything that poses a safety health issue.
modulator do hi lo so why alert?

tornado siren Roubik Nope just in alert
Good way to get peoples' attention.
You really need to go see an eye doctor or get new reading glasses if you can't read of what's in front of your face.
