I love you ZDOGG!! Thank you from the deepest part of my soul. It's nice to feel appreciated. Today it took 8 of us nurses to wrestle a young female from trying to breakthrough the 3rd floor window to end her life. After an intense struggle, loads of security, and a hefty dose of sedatives, we took all took a breather and laughed real hard. We are not a psych unit, it's just another day in the life of a nurse. Our job is crazy, stressful, we are constantly understaffed and yet we still come back for more. I would not want to do anything else. I love being a nurse! 10 years strong. Happy nurses week!

I told my ED director that our staffing: patient ratio was unsafe and I felt like I was risking my license. I can't provide the kind of care I know I'm capable of and that my patients deserve. His response? "it's the standard"

It's definitely hard on both sides. You guys are overworked and patients already complain about how high the cost is, more nurses per patients only raises that cost per patient. So I honestly think they're stuck between a rock and hard place with that situation. Although you guys shouldn't be mad to feel like you could lose your jobs for raising concerns.

I work in the er as a PCT tech, and we do pretty much all nurse care, but a few things , hang drugs foleys and Iv. amazing how the bottom of the pool gets forgotten. When is comes to splints, setting up the triple lumen, chest tubes we do it all...... Don't forget the PCT in the world. We are all a team, but we know where everything is.

Thank you so much. I’ve been a licensed RN since 1983, but I had to give up active practice in 2012 after my then employer (a Medicaid MCO in WA State)terminated me because I fell at work and could not return to full duty after three days, having torn the labrum in my left hip. This stressed me out so much that I had a right basilar ganglia stroke a couple of months later from which I have had sequelae. Only once in my long. Career have I had a doc say thank you to me. He was a PGY1 from Loma Linda who was rotating through our high risk LDR unit at a county hospital in San Bernardino. He had a patient who needed an FSE and an IUPC placed. The on-call, who was one of the two Chief Residents was tied up with the attendingin a section, and they told him to come up to the unit and find the Charge Nurse (AKA me) and I would help him. I talked him tnrough it, he aced it, and felt so much better about himself. Came back after the delivery to tell me how much he appreciated it. Made my day. Thank you again for this. Maybe my career was worth it after all.
