Dear Mazda, Please Don’t Ruin The Next MX-5

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

This 2023 Mazda MX-5 I'm driving today is an RF GT, making 181 HP and 151 lb-ft of torque from it's N/A 2.0L inline 4 Skyactiv engine. Rumors and concepts of the next generation MX-5 have been stirring for quite some time and although the 2024 model year brings important changes, we're ready to see the next one. Enjoy!

Not necessarily. Miata is an institution; however, if done right, I think there's the potential for an EV miata to be something special. It wouldn't be easy. It would take a totally different attitude to EV design than any manufacturer has taken yet. If anyone could do it it'd be mazda. When they're making weird things work is when mazda is at its best.

Things Mazda could say that would ruin our lives: - The new Miatas will no longer have a manual transmission as an option. - The new Miatas weigh a low 3.200 lbs! - The new Miatas have turbo charged 3 piston economy engines. - The new Miatas are being built by Volkswagen. - The new Miatas share the same platform as the CX-90.

Actually building a larger coupe or convertible on the CX 90 platform could be awesome. Size of an LC 500 or 911, price it around 50,000 to 60,000. But this would be in addition to the Miata.

I bought my ND RF Club in 2019 because I knew it might be one of the last of its kind. I truly want to keep this car for a lifetime. It will probably sound very silly to most people, but I really fear manual transmissions being phased out - I learned and made the switch because I have pretty serious ADHD, and find a manual much more engaging to drive; you can’t get much more engaging than this car. It keeps me more focused on the road and less likely to do stupid stuff like looking at my phone while driving. Ironically enough, I stopped getting speeding tickets after buying a sports car. Driving stick literally enables me to be a better, safer driver - and there are studies that back this up. I’ve driven electric cars before and the lack of feedback, responsiveness, and driver participation is liable to make my mind wander… or literally put me to sleep on longer trips. I hope companies like Mazda never totally cave to consumers who just see vehicles as a way to get from point A to point B with the most comfort and least friction possible, people like me are always going to crave a more connected experience.

LOL THE ND is old? Give me a break man I'm still saving for an ND since owning an NA and NB as a daily since 2003. I don't care what anyone says - the ND is NOT old. I am not interested in hybrid/electric. After that we all know the Miata will be dead. But the ND is still the hot ticket and will be for a while.

I almost did the same thing but went with an ND in the end. I can only afford to insure one car and I can't always have it in the shop and spend insane amounts of money on replacement parts when it is. That automatically rules out basically everything European like BMW, Porsche etc. American muscle cars have come a long way in the handling department but still have nothing on an MX-5. The ND is just the best all rounder for reliability, performance and cost to run in my opinion.

MX-5s aught not be about screen size or number of speakers. Performance items only please. As for that sand color, MX-5s are tiny cars, visibility to other drivers is limited, having the car in a camo color puts the MX-5 at risk. I drive my 2016 MX-5 year round in New Hampshire, I keep a set of snow tires on rims for that. As for brakes, I put a set of Wilwoods on it, the base floating calipers are heavy and don't like salt, they rust and seize.

To me the biggest issue with the ND is that you can get a c7 Stingray z51 with a Carmax 5 year warranty for the same price. And I know that’s often the case with a new car vs used, but in this case the stingray is just so much more car that it’s hard to ignore. And if you wanna talk about “pure” driving experience - I love the ND, but the c7 is (I think) the only modern sports car that combines an NA v8, RWD, manual transmission, open roof, and being somewhat lightweight. It’s just hard to beat that driving experience.
