Its grim that Ellis wrote this story on his own personal twitter but because he was employed by Buzzfeed at the time they fully own it. A company he doesn't even work for anymore owns a fictional version of himself. He has become an intellectual property to them.

Personally, I've always thought that the reason Adam was kind of dickish when his art was criticized back in like 2016-2018 was somewhat made worse by the fact Buzzfeed probably encouraged him to respond like that. The fact that Buzzfeed shows Adam in this movie responding to The Trolls(trademark) as an epic pwnage moment kind of fuels this thought more

If you want a movie that takes an internet ARG, and completely changes everything, might I suggest the TSV short film? It turns an eldritch alien horror ARG (That also went insane and completely lost the plot even during its run), and made a weird fusion of it and a romantic drama, apparently. There's also the Marble Hornets movie, which does the same thing, except for making Marble Hornets into a Blair Witch knockoff that completely missed the point of Blair Witch's style.

Adam Ellis’s “comics” look like goofy ripoffs of Penny Arcade. The only reason I don’t say they definitely are is because I assume this guy can’t be over 40 or he would vomit at the mere thought of contributing to Buzzfeed.

Honestly the original story was really good, it was super well done. but like why the fuck did they make a movie like 8 years after it was completely forgotten 💀

I stopped paying attention to Adam after he implied men can’t be abuse victims of women (heard v depp trial era) and it’s not surprising this movie flopped

I was on the FLOOR with this movie when I tried it...Dear David was such an important stepping stone in my love for horror and when I saw this movie I was beyond words with how horrific it was...one of the worst films I've seen this year but it's so bad it's kinda perfect
