When the son died that day in that accident, Mister Martin was a broken man. It was the longest death ever because his favorite son died. But after the death of the son, the will to live was gone. But I don't want to take Mister Dean's side, because he wasn't nice to his ex-wives. Actors or singers are sometimes very difficult in private.

Dean's son, Dino, had a musical group in the '60's called Dino, Desi and Billy. It was Dino, Desi Arnaz, Jr. and Billy Hinsche. They were popular for a few years then broke up to pursue their own careers. Dino was married to Dorothy Hamill, the famous American figure skater. He was also married to Olivia Hussey, a popular actress from the 60's who was famous as Juliet in the movie about Romeo and Juliet. When Dino was killed in a plane crash, it almost killed Dean. In his last interview before he died, he talked about it and how he and Jeanne bonded together after his third divorce over his death. He said that they were going to remarry, but he died before they did. I LOVED his show in the 70's! He had a great sense of humor and of course, he could sing. He was always the funniest one when they used to roast celebrities. Great video!!

Dean Martin, was the only entertainer in his era to have hit songs, movies, and a successful tv show all at the same time. Trying to tarnish a man's name after he's been gone since 1995, and without him present to tell his side...is one of the most chicken shit moves I've ever witnessed. Dean's legend will live on, and beyond this guys POS documentaries. RIP Dean Martin.

It's not as bad as having Jerry Lewis grab the narrative and write books on his point of view re his relationship with Dean. Sinatra was a busybody, and forced the reconciliation, but later on Carson, Dean absolutely rolled his eyes at the notion that he and Lewis were friends. However, Jerry wrote "DEan and Jerry - a love story", after Dean was dead. To be fair, Jerry did have the hots for Dean, in a bisexual way - because Dean was the first time the abandoned 19 year old had a warm, physical relationship with anyone, by way of the show. Dean was very kind to him.

I just saw a documentary on him on TMC "The King of Cool". Everyone, including his daughter, said it was a great guy. Jerry Lewis's son said he was jealous of Dean's relationship with his children. He definitely wasn't faithful, but then again, as my friend said to me about her ex husband, he was a terrible husband but a fantastic father. According to the show Dean Martin was very much loved by everyone, they said he was the nicest guy to work with.

Exactly, and according to Shirley Maclaine, Dean found Sinatra annoying, bugging him to party - so when they were on tours or away from home, he would tell Sinatra that he had a woman in his room, so that Sinatra would leave him alone. That could be where the womanizing stories came from.

Dean was a truly great singer. I'd be willing to bet that he was more of a scoundrel than is generally known. His very interesting biography indicates he was a pretty good prize fighter at one time. He also had a falling out with Frank Sinatra. The death of his son, Dean Paul in a 1987 Air Force (F4) jet plane crash, hit Dean Sr. very hard and he never really recovered. He has left a treasure trove of music that will live on forever. I love his music.

A Hollywood star being unfaithful to his/her spouse? NO, say it ain’t so!! Ironically though, one problem Dean did NOT have, despite his public image (which was mostly an act) was alcoholism. He drank, sure, but rarely to excess. In the end, it was SMOKING, not drinking, that did him in.

Yep, I'm not sure if that apple juice thing is true (I don't think it is as I hear he said he didn't like it) but he would just pretend to be drinking alcohol whenever he was performing. Alcohol is to a singer's detriment, no way in hell you want to drink liquor right before or during a performance.

Read his daughter Deana's book about her relationship with her dad. She said it plain and simple that he was NOT a caring dad. But she loved him deeply for who he was. I say leave Dino's personal live alone. We all have our good and not so good parts of our lives. He was a great entertainer and I for one loved him as he brought a lot of happiness into my life.

Dean's relationship with his kids was undermined by Jerry Lewis visiting his ex wife, and having those kids call him "Uncle Jerry". Deana would no doubt have been angry about the divorce, and jealous of Jeanne, at least to start with. Tough place to put Jeanne, that's for sure. I don't believe that he was "uncaring", but I think she had unrealistic expectations, to be the centre of attention. She is not, was not a very good singer, but really took over her dad's story, without consulting any of the others. Gail was a good singer though, but chose not to go that way looks like.

I kinda agree with you; but, he never really did drink according to what has been recorded; the drinking was part of his act. Though he admitted, that he would have a glass of wine or two with dinner and that was about it. It was also recorded that after his son passed, that's when he began to hit the liquor.

Seems like his not being a gentleman all revolve around him cheating on his wives. Ive never heard anything about him being abusive to anyone, wives, children, people he worked around etc. Men by our very nature are attracted to women, especially attractive women. Enhance that with good looks, talent, fame, fortune, and women offering themselves to you and its very challenging for a man to be faithful to one woman. Not justifying it or saying it cant be done just pointing out an uncomfortable fact. Maybe you can say the same for a woman, I dont know, Im not a woman.

Big mistake and you lose a lot of credibility. Martin and lewis began in 1946, not in 1949. Please cite your sources for the infidelity. I don't recall any show his said he was not a good husband or in any interview where he said that. Seems to me you are making false claims about the dead, anyone can do that.

Here we go, again, judging people we don't know! His extended family, children and friends are the only people who truly knew him. His children seemed to love him dearly. I'll judge him by their perception of him. His wife, Jeannie, seems to have been very happy in their long relationship. The person narrating this doesn't even know how to pronounce his son Ricky's name! I loved Dean, the entertainer, and would love to have known him personally.

Was Dean Martin a gentleman? No. He was a human being with flaws, but there was no denying that he deeply loved his children and he was a great guy to have on the set. Dean was low-maintenance and just loved to live life to its fullest. Here is a Dean story: Jeanne was firm that the family would sit down to dinner EVERY night at six pm sharp--Dean, included. Right before dinner Dean would saunter in, walk over to the fridge and make himself a bread and butter slice--slathering the butter over the bread. Taking a bite, he would remark: "Now, that's what I call living, pally!" And there were two things you forgot to mention in your expose: 1) Dean was raised in an Italian home and didn't learn to speak English until he was 5 years old, and 2) he never rehearsed for his comedy-variety show because he had it in his clause that he was allowed to play as much golf as he wanted. Dean's part on the show was completely spontaneous, which is why it was a hit. And for the record, his second wife's name was pronounced Gee-Nee as in 'I Dream of Jeannie'.

Lots of Hollywood celebrities were married multiple times, had numerous mistresses and extramarrital affairs. The words "So what" comes to mind. Somehow, after they have been dead and gone for 35 years, it is one of those things that just doesn't matter anymore. I liked Dean Martin as an actor in westerns and other movies. Nothing here changes any of that in my estimation.
