Looks like the first contact from dean to taguchi sent taguchi off pretty hard, taguchi was already at max angle when dean hit him so he started going off and struggling to not spin, taguchi was just trying to save the car

I know this isn't the popular opinion here, and I like watching Dean, but it was tire-to-tire contact that's very different from tire to door contact. Seemed like that pushed him off line, off track, into the dirt, and towards the wall. So I understand if he let off the throttle because of being in the dirt and heading towards the wall like he was. Not like last round where Matt Field parked his car on the bank with no contact, and the chase car got the fault.

No. Tire-to-tire contact is what happened in top 8, Adam LZ vs James Deane. Karnage barely grazed that side skirt, and the only reason it came loose was because of the high friction of the tire.

Huge L for that behavior, and for slamming Taguchi, the track and the judges with this video. But sadly, whinging has become a constant on this channel - if it's not the judges, it's the track or the other driver. It's never Dean. Ever. Telemetry showed that Taguchi didn't slow. Dean hit him and pushed him off track. The difference between Dean and the likes of Deane, Aasbø and Forsberg is that Deane, Aasbø and Forsberg own up to their own mistakes - reset and come back better. If you're incapable of identifying and owning your own mistakes - you'll never progress. Again. Huge L.

@@ireeeebz I was there too, and I saw Dean lunge at him, but didn't see him slow. The lunge resulted in Taguchi being forced off track. Telemetry showed that he didn't slow, and if he did in fact slow, the lights would've indicated that as there would've been a weight shift that would've triggered the lights. Funny how the judges and the officials seem to disagree with you. They even dismissed the protest. What they conveniently left out of this video was the overhead shot at regular speed where you could see Dean lungeing as opposed to Taguchi slowing. Disagree all you want. The right call was made, and Dean caught himself a massive L for his hissy fit, and for this video.

There's something up with those judges. Even watching qualifying, another run a few after your first qualifier got a 75 for the exact same run, missing the same amount of OZ 1 and 2. What really pisses me off is they blame you for that incomplete, when later in the day Matt Field causes Rome to spin out in the exact same way, a light tap, and they get an OMT, not putting Field at fault and knocking him out of the competition. I understand FD is judged, which makes it inherently somewhat subjective, but it seems the judges are playing favorites and always prefer to vote for certain drivers unless there is an obvious fuckup they can't ignore.

I am really proud of the Whole team they did an amazing job and Dean drove his heart out, great video.

I cant tell what people are even arguing here. i dont root for either of these drivers but If people are upset that taguchi shut it down after the contact and his tire dropping into the dirt heading.....INTO A WALL, then idk what to tell you. If people are upset saying that taguchi slowed down, causing the contact, then you have some information that i am missing, bc even with the slow-mo, arrows, and text i cant see enough of a change to say he slowed any more than dean surged into him. Its the chase position's job to follow, i see dean pushing to catch up after transition more than i see taguchi slowing. Also lets point arrows to the tire smoke of dean when he surges into him, dude's POURING out smoke, then rips the ebrake realizing he's pushing too hard right before the contact with the rear left of taguchi. Thats how i see it from a completely neutral perspective, idk judges apparently saw it that way as well.

18:00 True! Matte Field's telemetry was noticeably slower than the driver he was battling against in top 32 or top 16! It's not as accurate as some thought it would be. I, for one, knew better than to put complete trust in it. They're basically just pretty lights that react to throttle input, imo.

  • @lb9gta307

    @lb9gta307

It is very imperfect but they don't react to throttle input at all. The lights are controlled by a g meter. That's why some wall taps are turning them red even under full throttle. They have other sources of telemetry other than the light system too but it's all just to make better guesses.

From my understanding, Dean is saying the initial tap was Taguchi's fault for lifting, which if true, would be okay/within rules, so long as it does not cause a significant decel (red light) which is what they determined to be a visual decel. Dean believes this lift caused a significant enough decel to cause tap but within FD rules, it was not significant, thus, faulting Dean. So if thats the case, FD made the right call, according to their rules, but perhaps their rules for decel allowed should be reevaluated.

as a guy who has had the pleasure of drifting ONLY a couple times in competition I see Exactly what DEAN's issue is. .. at the same time. Drifting is like boxing smart moves by Kazuya. Good run guys. I bet the People of FD would sponsor a drift car like Deans if he ever thought he would lose a main sponsor. Keep killing it brotha play it like they do even though it's not your style Bub.

I don't watch FD purely because of the majority of the rule book and just how inconsistent the judging AND how ever changing the rules are. It truly seems like most people just win battles purely out of luck a majority of the time

I feel what Dean says, it's a subjective sport. I participate in RC Drifting and the amount of grey areas in the rules and scoring can either play in your advantage or screw you over. I totally agree that there should have been shared fault and a OMT given. But that is the way the sport goes , just keep pushing at the next one. Karnage 💪🏻

Lost respects for that thumb nail. If you truly know drifting, TRULY KNOW, you know that dean lost that battle I figured him being a vet he would see the replay and understand. In the moment makes sense you can see everything but he 100% lost

I love dean and his car, but I don't like how whoever edited on the first shot edited out the initial tire bump which then caused kazuya to go off. That said I agree. Unfortunately where a lot of drivers could save these things in the spirit of drifting they use the rules to their advantage and as soon as they get the tiniest love tap all of a sudden lose control when they definitely could have saved it.

Kazuya's trajectory was shifted off course due to your hit. He "shut it down" when he realized that he would've gone into the wall if he stayed on throttle. Out of all drivers in FD kazuya is the least likely of all to "play games". He has no history of doing that shit, why would he do it now? You act like a man child every time you lose a battle

Kazuya won the mind race "he played you" on and off the track ... he let you hit him and then knowing you would let it all hang out "he let off the throttle" and blocked you from moving forward - then he came to you to aggregate you and explain that he was paying you back for running into him in the first place happens all the time @ indoor go cart racing with drivers that have no skills . . . . .

Yeah, I think you're in the wrong with this one. It sure looks like that hit sent his rear tires into the dirt where it just lost all grip and bogged. I know you've had a lot of bad calls go against you, and I'd understand if you're already on edge about them, but I don't think this was one of them. I think this was the correct call and I don't think Taguchi "took the easy win".

I like Dean, but the contact issue really should've been ruled shared fault. He can be mad at people criticizing his assessment, but cone on dude; that contact changed Taguchi's trajectory.

Really starting to see more drivers, for lack of better terms "draw a foul" 2 other drivers did the same thing that event. The judges really need to learn how to identify that, and then issue punishments for such actions. Idk what the penalty should be if caught. All I know is that I'm starting to see more and more situations like this. He knew what did. And he knows he did it on purpose cause you would get deemed at fault not him.

I'm not sure if it was on-purpose to draw a foul or to avoid hitting the wall, but either way dude should admit he let off
