Dean Booker- Penn Fathom II Casting Special Spool Bearing Service

Спорт

Dean shows you how to service your reel for maximum performance! This same method can be applied to any multiplier reel that is used for casting, but if in doubt, always consult your reel's exploded parts diagram.

Even when you're not fishing , your videos are excellent. Just did both my mag 525s and now super quick, with mags full on. Did not attempt to open the bearing (they looked sealed to me) so just soaked them in lighter fuel. Previously my mags were 50 % off !! Will have to take it easy on those 1st casts next time out - thanks Dean.

Cheers Dean. Very helpful advice and methods. Much is applicable across other reel models. Really great to hear your experience and expertise. I find these points below also help. Use a saucer or soup bowl to hold you screws/ washers to stop things rilling around Do it all on a tea tray so you can lift it all up and move it. Especially useful if you've got kids or pets or a missus who loves ocd tidying up. Especially if the doorbell rings mid service you can move it all to somewhere safer.

Simply and easy to understand! Less is more (oil). Saw your vid on switching from spinng reels to casting. I’m very experienced and have been using PENN reels for years for boat trolling and dropping. I haven’t spent time with casting since my old Penn 920 gold, 30 years ago, but I’ve been looking at the new magnet casting, and think it’s time to try something different. In North America we don’t have the blue mag4, so need to decide between the fathom or squall casting specials, with star drag. I’ve got a couple of Penns with the strike lever, but I’m not a big fan of these. Good job explaining a basic reel service.

Would love to get the fathoms but don't get out often enough to justify changing my mag 2's. Great tutorial, this maybe a silly question but can run a reel without any oil in the bearings? I have inadvertently done this after changing the bearings on my mags to ABEC 7’s unless they come with some oil already in the bearing

Great video been looking for a good and clear guide on how to do this as I've just brought a pair of casting specials that have been used twice (apparently) , not sure I want mine going quite as fast as this but it shows me how to do it , do the different types of bearings you can buy really make much of a difference when it comes to fishing or are they really just for tournament casting at max performance ? Also does the handle/gearbox side of the reel need any sort of tuning or maintenance other than the normal once a pre-season check ?

Great video Dean, that's really informative, cheers 👍. It's interesting to hear that you cover all your fishing scenarios with just one or two clicks from maximum breaking, especially with you having the reels running so fast. I was wondering, does variation in different lead sizes being used alter the range of breaking needed or is it just wind conditions?

I'm a simple man/fisherman. Dean uploads, I watch. Dean, I do have a question. I recently bought two dawia super tuned. No matter what I do, mags on full even fiddling around with the end float they are very temperamental, as in I will get a nest every 3 or 4 casts. I'm by no means an amazing caster buy I have been using multis for 20 years. My turbos, mags or 525s never had these issues. Just my new super tuned and actually my new fathoms 2 (non casting specials) also do it but less so. Any ideas?
