    As a consumer and someone who is involved in the aftermarket industry, it is discouraging when dealerships always blame the lift kits for everything and provide false information.

    JW my 2020 3500 just went in, I bought it brand new and driving home the first time I noticed it wandered all over the road, I had the dealership realign it twice... nothing. After watching this video I gave them the information and it’s at the dealership currently, do you have any more tips while it’s there?

    All the stealerships try this BS going thru it with my wife’s Honda Civic I bought Honda certified from a Honda dealership but the Honda Dealer right by my house tried to say it was going to be $400 repair not covered by my Honda care I paid $1,500 for. Long story short went 30 mi to the dealership I bought the car from it is a warranty issue and covered but they can’t get the part for 7 days. Trying to get my $400 back from the first dealership that misdiagnosed the issue. I am not a mechanic and tried telling them their story didn’t make sense.

    1. Look at page 8 of your "Limited Warranty and Owner Assistance Information" manual. "What is not covered... Damage due to accident, misuse or alteration... Installation of non GM parts." 2. A dealer is paid by the manufacturer to do warranty work. It does not come out of their pockets. Why would a dealer turn down work that they would expect to be paid for? The manufacturer is sure to pay and their funds are sure. You, as a customer, may or may not have the ability to pay. 3. You knew all of this before installing a lift that is expressly prohibited by your factory warranty. 4. Take personal responsibility for your own actions, and don't assume that someone else will always pay for your mistakes.

I grabbed the upper shaft that goes into the steering wheel gave it a wiggle. And same noise I was hearing and feeling while driving. Mine is the steering column bearing upper not the plastic one everyone replaces . or the pivot in the tilt steering.the steering column is serviceable .steering wheel to be pulled off. good luck diesel brother.

    I work as a tech at a Ford dealership. We look at modified trucks with a lift or not. But we tell the customer up front that if the lift has caused the failure of the warrantable components then they would be responsible for the diagnostic charge as that is not warrantable. And provide a repair estimate. For example, if you have offset wheels or wheel spacers that's proof of an aftermarket component causing a failure of an OEM front hub. It alters the centerline of the load on the hub. Not warrantable. Most common thing is CV axle angles. Any modification causes angle outside of specification and is also not warrantable. The proof is the angle in comparison to a stock truck. It depends on the customer. If it's your customer you help them. But if not, you typically don't.

    This video was so informative. I recently ordered a GMC AT-4 2500. I was thinking about adding a lift kit, hence me watching this video. To my point, I am a Service Director. If you have a problem or feel mislead, please ask for management. Don’t go to the internet, just escalate your problem with the chain of command. As the head of a Service Department, the last thing I want is my customers leaving unhappy. In most cases you won’t come back. The dealership gets paid weather it’s warranty or customer pay. I can’t understand why the dealership involved didn’t even look at the truck before they made that decision. In any event, thanks for your video.

    Dealerships usually get the blame and sometimes rightfully so. But I always tell my customers, either the manufacturer pays us or you pay us. As a dealer you are either charging the customer or the manufacturer, and if the manufacturer declines the claim no one gets paid. Most times having a legitimate conversation with a customer..this works out fine. When someone is telling me I have to warranty something or legal action......I usually show them the front door

  • @taylorprice-ellis2239

    @taylorprice-ellis2239

    So as a dealer you denying a warranty claim with no proof that the lift is causing the issue is a lose lose for you and the manufacturer. If the customer gets 3rd party verification that the lift isn't causing the issue in any sort of way (This being a known issue with a warranty TSB already being circulated) you simply open yourself to legal action.

    Intermediate steering shaft or driveshaft? My ‘18 1500 has been acting odd since I installed a leveling recommended by the dealer. And I got a quote for upgrading to dual batteries for $500. Then I decided not use AC Delco battery. So when they called to say the truck wasn’t ready the price went to $800? I just got home from the hospital for a pretty serious surgery. Three days with no vehicle I just want the job finished. Now there’s a missing part they’re waiting for! Ok I’m hurting from surgery & wait until the next day. The bill is still $800 something but they charge me for completing the job on a second day!? Now the labor cost on the bill is 2 hours one day & 1 hour the next for a quote of a 1 hour job. ... I’m not happy but the job is done to factory specifications. I’ll go back to main branch of the dealer for my next service and discuss with them in 6 months. Like you I didn’t buy my truck there. I wish I had bought in NH where I brought my son for his truck. But again the best dealership I’ve ever been to in 35 years is an hour away. I’m getting soft in my old age. I’ll make it work out at some point. You get more honey than you do with vinegar. You were smart to get answers to go back with. 25 years I would lose my composure first then call the manufacturer. A dealer is always willing to work with you if you show the right attitude. Got to be comprehensive that businesses dont always run on schedule. I've had great experiences at dealerships by being understanding and not overreacting to having to wait longer. After you being upset about having to wait all day they probably just wanted you out of there.

    If the dealership has the position that the lift is causing the issue that’s not illegal. The law as it is allows dealers to deny coverage if the modification is the cause of the issue so them taking that position is ok. You just saying that it’s not the lift won’t win in court: you need to have it independently inspected by a professional and then take the dealership to court. Unfortunately that’s the only way you will force a dealership that has that position to change. Been through it before and had to get a lawyer involved since the dealership basically blackballed my vin so any other dealership would say the same thing and wouldn’t even look at the truck. Took the dealership to small claims court and my lawyer had an expert witness (pro mechanic who had like 30 years working on fords) testify that the issue wasn’t the lift or larger wheel tire combo. Dealership lost.

    Yesterday I called a guy in Wisconsin that has a 2003 Chevy Silverado with 8000 miles on it. I was going to trade him for my truck. But I chickened out. As we were talking he asked why would You do that, I replied and said the steering is stupid and annoying, not entirely in those words. He said he understood because he was in a super duty and said that they just don’t drive like they used to. He completely understood everything about our conversation with steering , Darting, not being able to hold a straight line especially when there is a Divet in the road. So my options are basically to buy a old truck. All the new heavy duty feel the same thing. After six trucks I am not a brand loyal person

    Read your truck warranty closely -- it clearly states ANY MODIFICATIONS to your truck can and will void your warranty. What I don't get is why people spend $80K to $100K on a truck and then modify it. Manufacturers spend hundreds of millions of dollars engineering these vehicles for durability and reliability. To then modify the vehicle shows only one thing -- the lack of sense by the owner. But, hey, if you like lighting your money on fire, have at it. Or if you like having to wait days or weeks to get your vehicles repaired, be my guest. Whatever you do, though, don't blame the dealer or manufacturer for your lack of common sense.

If you have money to burn, then delete all you want. But don't complain when your warranty is voided and the manufacturer won't pay for the damage you caused.
