An incredible story about Deaf family adoption and sign language deprivation! Kelly and Bradley, as a Deaf partner who discovered there is no label for identifying Deaf kids in the adoption system! Later, they adopted both biological brothers, Wylie and Ambrose. Later, they adopted both biological brothers, Wylie and Ambrose. Wylie is a Deaf child who was a victim of language deprivation. Ambrose is children of Deaf adults, and he didn't know how to sign language. Fortunately, the Deaf family knows how to sign. Deaf family communicate with both children in American sign language (ASL). Communication was a big struggle, yet they all found a way to overcome the battle together!
Sign language deprivation is not the only thing that happens to Deaf kids. Language deprivation is everywhere in the world, and it's a problem for all children growing up without any exposure to sign language or other forms of communication with hearing people. Some countries have made efforts towards providing more opportunities for access to sign languages so that every child can grow into their full potential no matter what they're missing out on because of lack of education about deafness and how it affects them socially, culturally, physically--and even cognitively!
