I can say that when Ryan agreed to do this movie under the Marvel banner it was contingent on him having complete creative control. Marvel brass was not allowed to re-imagine things, insert their own creative, etc. We dubbed it the Marvel, non Marvel movie.

Ryan is honestly going to be the only reason why Deadpool and Wolverine will be good. Disney and Marvel would fuck it up, but luckily Ryan has a lot of passion for this character, and Marvel knows a Deadpool movie with Ryan wouldn't go over well. So it'd overall have to be Ryan's way, or they wouldn't get Deadpool.

If the biggest concern is that it’s not going to change the MCU and just be a movie that is fun and wild…if that’s the worst thing…then it’s a great thing. We don’t need these long term tie-in convoluted connections. Also, Deadpool and Wolverine as a title is pretty spot on with the comic titles of “Deadpool with [insert other person here]”

Spot on, these movies have to be their own thing first and foremost. Remember when Iron Man came at the end credits of the incredible hulk? That's how you make appropriate connections that build character. They have to be their own thing with their own story first.

Neither save nor destroy. It will simply serve as the closing chapter in the book, but what a way to close the MCU and put the last nail in the coffin.

In the comics, Wolverine was supposed to be undercover because the X-Men was supposedly disbanded during that time. I forgot his undercover name , but that's probably gonna be a very minute part in the movie where Wade offs the wrong person or brings Logan from hiding.

I'm concerned about it too. But after learning that R.R. wasn't going through with Deadpool 3 because of the same concern we had (the MCU basically) and suddenly announcing the next title on the franchise claiming he were given the reins, I got a bit of hope for it. Plus, Hugh Jackman is of the same mentality. Also Reynolds become fascinated by Deadpool comics, hinting on a abbreviate (like last movie) approach to Deadpool story arc. I really hope it goes through like this. If so, the box office will show the results and being very very hopeful, we can get to the Deadpool arc where he tear down the 4th wall going after the writers branding them as villains for all the shit he goes through.

Opening narration. "Hi Deadpool here. I wasn't sure if I was going to get another movie, but after Disney's shares dropped they needed a hero to save the day."

I know they would never even think about doing it, but: Marvel could use the "Deadpool kills the Marvel Universe" plotline from the comics to clean house and start from scratch. If this movie does extremely well and Marvel/Disney finally come back to their senses, there might be a chance to follow up with an Avengers style culmination movie where Deadpool goes on a rampage and just kills everyone. Again, I doubt it will ever happen, mostly because the majority of actors wouldn't be on board with it and even if they would, Disney probably couldn't pay them all. But it's nice to think about the possibility. And who knows, maybe OpenAI's new Text to Video model will just generate a movie like that in 5 years. A man can dream.

If anything can kill Deadpool, it's disney.

Better news, is Ryan, Hugh, and Shawn Levi as well as the writers, all rebelled against Disney and Marvel to get this done.

From a business standpoint, that makes perfect since. But this is a film, and what I really care about is the art and quality. That's why I'm more nervous about this film. Disney seems to value Hugh Jackman's brand recognition more than the legacy left by Logan, a great film. What else are they willing to do to eek out more profit?

What I find most interesting about the Disney hiring writers with Rick and Morty experience and going down the multiverse route, is that a core theme in R&M is the nihilism and loss of consequences that comes from the existence of a multiverse. It works for Deadpool, but not for stories where you actually want to have heroes and stakes.

_Teaser_ Trailer, at the risk of being pedantic, which really only exemplifies your point. I while can't say I'd hold it against anyone for being _cautiously_ optimistic for this movie, having exceptions any higher than that after only a teaser is indeed highly naive if not incredibly foolish.

For the first time ever, you have uttered something that I actually do not agree with: I thought Deadpool 2 was way better than the first and I really liked the first. Everything else you said I feel the same way on. I hope the TVA though is just like the opening before the credits and Deadpool still just murders them all, escaping into a portal and the last living TVA agent puts a lock on wherever he goes with his dying breath, effectively locking him away from the rest of the MCU. They did a sort of bait and switch move like that in D2 when you thought the whole movie was going to have X-Force in it. I'm still worried. I've been worried ever since Disney got their vile hands on Fox.

You summed up the situation pretty well, Drinker! While I’m a huge fan of Jackman’s Wolverine, he’s sort of too old to play the part now…of course, I would LOVE one last performance, no matter his age, but I’m rather wary…I’d prefer to remember him fondly as he was in his glory days than possibly see him as Wolverine in less than ideal circumstances. However, I do have a lot of faith in Reynolds, as long as they let him keep creative control of this new “Deadpool” movie. I dunno, the trailer has me all optimistic and hopeful. Just PLEASE don’t eff this up!

It kinda made sense for a one off movie gag, he was allowed to crack jokes until the 3rd act and they actually said that they were so annoyed with his joking around which is WHY they sewed his mouth shut. They didn't see him as an important reusable character, just a one-off villain for the final fight. It makes sense. It's a desecration, but it makes logical sense.

Dead Pool time jumping in comics is legendary hopefully they go that route

ALL of these movies have fake fighting that is simply Japanese samurai movie fights. These battles are all about choreography not fighting. I was a trained sword fighter from 1968 to retirement. I did medieval fighting, I did European dueling fighting, I also did 'live battles against criminals' when NYC and California were collapsing into total chaos. None of these 'super hero' battles are realistic, they are stupid. NEVER spin around or turn your back on whom you are fighting! NEVER. You have to keep your eye on the ball: never look away! This is when the other can step in and kill.

It lost MY interest. Deadpool 1 & 2 were garbage, but the attempt to throw in the TVA is truly garbage. The TVA is just a pathetic attempt to POLICE time travel/the multiverse, which is so brain damaged.

Kevin Fiege has a huge piece of the pie in the MCU. He & Disney have that absurd committee that has to go through them before a project can move forward. Props to Ryan and his writers for holding strong against Disney.

The sad part is that the lesson won't be learned as you said. Guardians 3 is a good example, a movie that made us laugh, cry, cheer… All within a 2-hour runtime. But just like that, Marvel followed up with the trash projects. Might be due to the fact that these movies are all in production at the same time, so they can't learn from their return on experience. I don't think the entire MCU can follow the Deadpool formula as it is very specific to the character, but here's hoping they realize what fans want to see and what they don't. Maybe their recent brush with mortality can serve as a lesson that even the most mindless of flocks will eventually stop following if the quality drops this low

All we need now is Dredd II.

I would love to see a Dredd streaming show, one in which they expand the world of Mega-City One and the Cursed Earth. I’d like it to have a serious tone like the movie but with more of the sci-fi elements from the comics, like mutants and robots.

I've been hearing similar rumors. Been hearing that Ryan Reynolds has been fighting with Disney/Marvel execs over the direction of the movie for months. Reynolds knows how to make a Deadpool movie work while Disney/Marvel can't get their sh*t together. Iger, Feige & the other execs need to listen to Reynolds if they want a respite from failure.

I've actually got 2 Ryan Reynolds films in my collection. One is GREEN LANTERN, which turned out to be possibly my all-time favorite "DC" movie, and was genuinely better than 95% of the comics the character ever appeared in. If it didn't include that STUPID cliffhanger leading into a sequel that never got made (GRRR) it might have been perfect. So I have no idea why most people insisted it sucked. The other is DICK, where he has a cameo as a dumb guy making out with Kirsten Dunst. One of the funniest movies I've ever seen. I love how the trailer describes it as "The ALMOST-true story" of Watergate. Even my Dad enjoyed it, and he was a Nixon fan!

He's said it himself in the past, it's becoming more difficult to put on the muscle he needs for the role because that's not his natural body type, he's tall, lanky, and lean, not muscle bound. He's also said that he was looking forward to retiring from the role because training beats his body up too much and it's harder to recover from it, due to age.

Long before She-Hulk was even pitched, back when Agents of SHIELD was the only MCU TV show, I actually wanted to see a She-Hulk TV series that would lampoon the silliness and loose threads of the MCU. And when it was announced, I was thrilled at first because it sounded like I would get my wish, and it came at a time when the MCU was getting bloated and was ripe for a little comedic pruning. And, well, we all know how that story ended. All I'm saying is that Deadpool is promising the same thing I wanted from She-Hulk, but this time my expectations are that it will disappoint.

Even if Deadpool 3 will be good, it's really doubtful it'll save the MCU at this point.

I don't see the inclusion of the TVA being much of an issue, seeing as it played a rather prominent role in the Deadpool comics and it'll likely be explained just well enough to make sense in the flick for folks who aren't fans of the books and also haven't watched Loki. Disney's insistence on forcing the message into their superhero movies is a concern of course, but the inclusion of the TVA is the least of the film's concerns given the precedent in the books for its inclusion. There's plenty to be cautiously optimistic about, but time will tell.

My biggest problem. Is that in every shot you see in the trailer, Deadpools outfit is clean. Somespots of dirt here and there, yet nothing showing any dangerous actions taken onto deadpool. If the first actual damage he takes is wolverine stabbing him at the last scene of the trailer, we can easily expect a loss for deadpools biggest ability. It seems like its just going to be a goofy merc kills alot of people (hitmans bodyguard) type of movie. Especially with the dull introduction of the wolverine. My guess would be they fight a hulk together...

I just watched the trailer for Netflix's "Damsel" and all I could hear in the back of my mind was the future commentary from the Drinker..... I chuckled in advance.

cautiously optimistic. If I don't see anything that makes me think it'll suck, i'll actually watch it in the cinema and it's nice to have films to look forward to for once!

That Jackman showed his age in Logan was on purpose. Im not saying you wont see it in Deadpool, you just didnt choose the best example for this.

You miss the point. Jackman as an actor and man LOOKED OLD AS SHIT outside that movie few years prior and even more since. You clearly do not follow him or watch his films. He looks like shit, way older than 55 in the face. He looked very decrepitly old in the 2013 and 2014 films too, but Logan was way worse(as the young X23 even)

Unlike pretty much everyone else in comic fandom, I have ALWAYS been terrified of the prospect of a Deadpool movie coming from Disney. Maybe we'll get lucky and they'll adopt a completely hands-off approach and let Ryan Reynolds do his own thing. But that sadly, probably, won't be the case. I hope like hell that I am wrong, but I am currently of the mindset that whatever Disney is going to offer up to us, is going to be unrecognizable compared to the first two movies in this side franchise.

Wont be surprised if we see some C-tier female superheroine be introduced and to show the two "straight white men" in Deadpool and Wolverine that "they are dinosaurs" and "check their white privledge". Hell Disney might make the blind neighbour of wolverine into a superheroine and team her up with Echo, imagine the thought provoking conversations both of them would have

A valid concern, but recall that Ryan Reynolds utterly refused to let Fox interfere creatively with deadpool 1 and they slashed his budget by something like 60% (don't quote me on numbers - it was a lot). It then went on to sell gangbusters. The long delay in deadpool 3 might have been the same narrative playing out over in the house of mouse. I 100% believe that RR would walk away from the roll of deadpool if iger and company wanted to shove the pander stone up his backdoor. Obviously - can't guarantee anything. That's just my 0.02

Reynolds really strikes me as the kind of guy who would have refused the project entirely if he didn't have some controlling level of influence over its direction- not for this property

It’s gonna do a bit of both. It’s going to be a saving grace for Marvel because it’s definitely going to bring in money, this is something the fans have been wanting to see. But at the same time, if the movie does perform well, it’s going to set an expectation for new Marvel films that I don’t think they’ll be able to reach, which will ultimately be their downfall (again).

Comics explained basically gave you a shout out in his most recent video!

The last time i got my hopes up for Disney when they announced an exciting reunion of two wonderful actors reprising their most iconic roles was Kenobi.... i'm reserving a lot of skepticism.

The thing with Kenobi is that it was always meant to screw up the OT. We know from Obi/Luke's Luke/Uncle Owen's dialogue scenes that Obi spent 20 years in the desert watching over Luke. That's it. We never needed anything more from Obi in between RotS and ANH, we needed Obi and Qui-Gon before TPM.

The difference there was that there was little reason to trust Kathleen Kennedy and Lucasfilm given their track record. Reynolds and Levy deserve the benefit of the doubt if they're given enough creative control. Also, the Kenobi show was always gonna have issues with pissing all over canon with the rumors of an Obi-Wan/Vader rematch(which unfortunately came to fruition). They made it infinitely worse by making young Leia the sidekick instead of Luke and inserting the awful Reva character and her nonsensical arc, but the entire foundation of that series was problematic.

It CAN be great, but it’s not impossible it could suck just as well. I haven’t gone to an opening night showing for anything coming out of Hollywood for years now. I plan to wait until after I hear good reviews from sources who aren’t shills before I pay to watch anything Disney again. Fingers crossed that they get it right this time. 🤞

Last thing I heard about this movie is that Ryan Reynolds has apparently been showing more interest in Wrexham FC than in the movie and has been distracted, not spending much time on it and rushing back to football business every chance he gets. Doesn't sound significant but if this is true then his heart isn't in this project as much as the last two so I recommend cautious optimism at most. Can't say I blame him really, if paint drying was a sport that'd probably be more passionate than Hollywood right now.

I'm very (edit: ok,mostly) optimistic, mainly because Reynolds has managed to to do something that is pretty singular in the modern film industry. He owns a hugely popular character in the most important way: with the fans. Legal/studio ownership be damned, Ryan IS deadpool. He's smart enough to know what he's got, patient enough not to squander it, and ballsey enough to give the studios the occasional tactical nudge. The fact that the MCU and supes in general are down has just forced the rat to be more willing to bend. Can it go wrong? Sure. Can the studio find new and invetive ways to pooch it? Sure. But im hoping they have the brains to let him do his thing. Deadpool in the comics was always supposed to be marvel poking fun at itself. If they let that continue, I'm very hopeful, at least for this little nook of the multiverse.

@@blackc1479 IMDB is showing Ryan as writer with another guy who worked on previous Deadpool films and among other things Zombieland. No obvious 20 years old creative wonderwomen seem to to be attached to this so hopefully the script will be more than a few sentences scribbled on a napkin. ... as is the common practice with Marvel projects these days. Then again, it is always about people who pay the production. Henry was good for Witcher but the end product is beyond tragic.

Deadpool and Wolverine will be a fun ride, but I seriously doubt Marvel wants to course correct at this point. I’m fine with just watching the movie and forgetting the MCU even exists again.

There's potential to get those of us who have given up on the MCU back on the train, but I still remain very, very cautiously optimistic. They still have to find a way to get RDJ and Evans back for at least those Secret Wars movies. Without them, it just feels like it won't work.

I had it with the multiverse when they finally cast John Krazinski as Mr Fantastic and then basically made him a total idiot. No wonder why Krazinski didn't want to play the role in F4.

I thought lots of Internet, gossip last week on KZread was talking about how Disney already goofed it up. They shot opening scenes of wolverine, fighting in different wars, which Jackman, Reynolds, and everybody were very excited about because they were cool scenes, and they set up the rest of the movie. Then Disney head Bob Iger decided to cut all that out because he wants a kid friendly movie. Could he get worse? Then he wanted to write and shoot a fight scene between wolverine and the X-Men but all the X-Men have their genders reversed. I think Jackman and Reynolds refused to reshoot that. They're also boycotting interviews with any entity owned by Disney. Those are the rumors online, I don't know if they're true or not but I've been telling everybody else I know.

Missed some critical points here. The first being Ryan Reynolds has been behind Deadpool since the beginning and Disney knows how popular the IP is. With all the stories and reports of Disney trying to force in "The Message" in the third act of Deadpool, something that Ryan Reynolds is against, that would actually mean any problems with the third movie can be laid at Disney's feet for interference. Overall, Disney sees this as their chance to use the movie to jump start other projects which was what they would have done had Disney had controlling interest in the Spider-Man No Way Home movie

Ryan Reynolds has went on the record and stated that Disney DID TRY and make some changes to the movie that he was NOT happy with, BUT that he stood his ground and even THREATENED TO LEAVE THE MOVIE if they didnt back down and let him to it the way he wanted to and they did.

Deadpool was indeed refreshing amidst the overly dramatic superhero movies. Concerns about how Disney might handle Deadpool and Wolverine are valid, yet there is still hope for a good mix of irreverent humor and action. Fingers crossed they don't mess it up!

If this movie flips it’s done,if a Deadpool 3 with Hugh Jackman wolverines return can’t work then nothing can

Although possible, I doubt it. Even I'm looking forward to this movie and I haven't seen another Marvel movie since Deadpool 2. I'll probably wait a week after it's released to get the audience's general opinion of the movie, just in case it'll be another Disney bait-and-switch.

Anyone else notice at 3:27 Drinker says "Loki is recruited" and not Deadpool?

I don’t think Jackman is the end all, be all wolverine actor and I thought Logan was mid. The wolverine came out before it and already did the “lost healing factor” trope, and the inconsistency with how adamantium is treated as indestructible but also easily destructible was weird.

"I am Marvel Jesus!" Probably the only film I'm genuinely excited for this year! This has the potential to be the greatest MCU movie to date! Seeing Hugh Jackman and Ryan Reynolds share the screen again is legendary.

This will be tough for Disney to explain to shareholders why Deadpool 3 succeeded where any MCU movies that come after, failed. I'm sure shareholders will see the reasons why all too clearly, so Deadpool 3 is going to be both a blessing and a curse for Disney and Marvel, blessing because it'll make bank, and a curse because shareholders will point out why it succeeded and want to know why supposed executives on the Disney board with "experience" can't seem to figure out what customers want.

It will be a curse because it will become the new formula for future films and they will beat it like a dead horse, while also not understanding that Ryan Reynolds is one of the few actors who is charismatic enough to actually pull this kind of humour off.

So many people crave real. Not everything has to be watered-down for mass appeal, but this is a catch-22, because Disney is obviously known for being "wholesome". Corporations are already in the position to maximize viewability and palatability, by kowtowing to the lowest common denominator of "acceptability". This movie could potentially break the norm for movie expectations, or it could totally confirm my first statement. Corporate status quo, met with a society that would rather complain, instead of changing the channel, makes for a parade of "safe" content... instead of truly creative and innovative, cinematic excellence. And that applies to small budget, medium budget, and massive budget films.

When it comes to shareholders, expect the execs to manipulate them as they have done so far. As for the studio, expect them to learn all the wrong lessons like they did after Now Way Home. Remember, Deadpool 03 IS multiverse. And the premise itself means we're getting cameo soup. As for future projects, Thunderbolts is coming up. Except its got NO THUNDERBOLTS in it.

I vaguely recall a Deadpool comic, years ago, something like "Deadpool kills off the Multiverse" or something like that. iirc it ends with him invading realspace to whack the Marvel writing pool. I can only hope that's what they are going for here. on that note: "will it save or destroy Marvel?" at this point, the only way to save Marvel is to destroy Marvel, so that it can rise from its own ashes (if it must rise again at all)

When I saw Deadpool in theaters I thought it was mostly okay. Eventually I wound up watching E;R's videos on it and ended up seeing it again a couple years later and aside from a couple amusing jokes it started making me a bit sad when I hear people talk about how different and unique it is from usual superhero movies, which is basically what it is aside from a few winks to the camera. Never bothered with the second one, but I AM curious wtf a Deadpool and Wolverine movie will be like.
