about #deadmau5:
Joel Zimmerman, more commonly known as deadmau5 (pronounced 'dead mouse'), is one of the world's most respected electronic music producers of modern times. Enjoying international chart success with his 2x platinum-certified single "Ghosts 'n' Stuff," as well as "Professional Griefers," "Sofi Needs A Ladder" and "I Remember," he has also released seven critically acclaimed albums. The multiple JUNO Award-winning and GRAMMY®-nominated artist's ability to push the boundaries of his talent grows at an equal rate to his fan base, which counts 15 million and more over his combined social media channels. His latest music offerings include “Pomegranate” with The Neptunes, “Bridged By A Lightwave” with Kiesza, “Channel 43” with Wolfgang Gartner, “Hypnocurrency” with REZZ, “When The Summer Dies” with Lights, “Hyperlandia” featuring Foster The People, “this is fine.” with Portugal. The Man, “XYZ” and “My Heart Has Teeth” featuring Skylar Grey.
In 2022 deadmau5 teamed with longtime friend and collaborator Kaskade on new music project Kx5 releasing Top 40 smash and #1 dance music radio single “Escape” featuring Hayla leading into the release of their 2023 debut self-titled album Kx5. In the live realm, his 2019/20 U.S. cubev3 tour featuring production of his own design and implementation ranked in the Top 10 of Pollstar’s top tours globally. In 2022 he completed the ‘We Are Friends’ North American tour and as Kx5 headlined the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum in December, breaking records as the largest single-day concert event headlined by an electronic music artist ever in North America with Billboard confirming Kx5 at the Coliseum as the biggest ticketed global headliner dance event of 2022. Beyond his music career, he is also a co-founder of gaming venture PIXELYNX and is an executive of HD streaming platform StreamVoodoo.
about #mau5trap:
Over a decade since its formation, mau5trap -- the independent record label founded by groundbreaking electronic music producer deadmau5 -- has become a bastion for trailblazing and genre-defying artists. Casting a palpable influence over the genre, Mixmag readers voted mau5trap among the “Top 50 Labels of the Decade”, placing it in the Top 10; since then, the imprint has been supported by dance music magnates Billboard, DJ Mag, Forbes, Insomniac, & The EDM Network.
The multi-genre platform has served as an authoritative platform for dance music heavyweights such as Skrillex, REZZ, Feed Me, Zedd, Noisia, i_o, Dillon Francis, Chris Lake, & Madeon; a combination of dark, forceful techno & complex, electro sounds, the label acts as a hotbed for rising talent like Lamorn, RayRay, Volaris, DI SUN, & others alike. Welcome to the horde.

I'm 67. Fell asleep on couch and woke up to this playing on KZread last night. Never heard of it before and style. Don't listen to music/radio much anymore since I gave up playing long time ago but I know music. This a Real Good. Chords, melody, voice, beat, programming the sounds/textures and the use of space. Live Long.

This is one of those songs for me that unlocks a specific period in my life. It’s a very bittersweet memory. 17, my first “relationship” and losing my virginity. She was 19 and in an off again, on again relationship with her 26 yr old boyfriend.. who she ended up ditching me for. It was my first job, decent sized company (20-30 employees) and she was the boss’s daughter working there - everyone fancied her, she was honestly super attractive. You know those people who just have “it”. I used to fantasise about her every day, just imagining what it would be like if I ever got the chance to talk to her, and creating scenarios in my head. I’d even pray to God, saying she was my dream girl; if I ever had the chance with her I’d be the happiest guy in the world. Never in a million years thought it would happen. Long story short, it happened. But I don’t even blame her for it not working out, at all. I was a decent looking lad with a “fake confidence” that I couldn’t maintain. I love this song. But again, it’s bittersweet. Because every time I listen to it.. I remember.

This is the first deadmau5 song I ever listen to. I'll never forget the night. Me and my college roommates got really stoned and they turned on some Dubstep. I was looking through iTunes and came across deadmau5 and asked one of my roommates, "Hey, have you ever heard of dead mau five?" "Oh, you mean deadmouse? Yeah he's great man." I had to ask, "Oh really? Is he dubstep?" He then said, "Oh no dude. He's way more chill. Check this shit out." He packed another bowl and put on this song with surround sound, looked at me and said, "It's like you're chilling through the galaxy, dude." I never wanted that song to end.

I remember, my best friend loved Deadmau5, he even had a 4x4=12 tattoo. He was coming to visit me and some friends one weekend, he crashed that night. He was T boned, I remember the hurt I felt during that weekend, knowing it was me he was coming to visit. I still hurt so much, when I left his funeral the sun was setting and it was a long highway drive back to my city, and this song came on... I didn't change it. I felt that I was remembering all of the time with him all at once, and it was honestly the worst time of my life but this song got me through that drive home.

Being surrounded by so much death and drugs violence it becomes sickening when its the anthem to the destruction that surrounds you. They say often times art imitates life. To some people it's just music to other people it's reality. Growing up was traumatic and filled with fear. Entire neighborhoods addicted to drugs, police sirens being heard 3-4 times a day. Entire blocks wrapped in yellow tape. Police helicopters buzzing in the sky deep into the night.
