Deadly coal run | Carte Blanche | M-Net

𝗧𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘆 𝗼𝗿𝗶𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝗮𝗶𝗿𝗲𝗱 𝗼𝗻 𝟵 𝗢𝗰𝘁𝗼𝗯𝗲𝗿 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟮.
Carnage and death stalk the coal road as drivers put profits before lives. War in Ukraine has caused a global energy crisis that has sent the coal price soaring and, with money to be made on coal transport contracts, mines and truckers are hurtling down the N2 between Pongola and Piet Retief. The Transnet rail system, long lost to sabotage and looting, puts pressure on truckers to make it to Richards Bay in record times. The crashes they cause are horrific, impacting the lives of communities along the way. Carte Blanche investigates the deadly toll amid a lack of visible policing.

Migjht even be able to convince these guys to disassemble and move a couple of Gautengs E-tolls stations over there... they might even start earnign revenue from them finally, in speediing offences. My heart goes out to these families, and to the first responders. In all honesty the Truck Owners need to share in both liability & culpability

In my own opinion these truckers are given unrealistic targets to get to their destinations and have to make it back to the loading site as quickly as they left. This means that they drive recklessly and in most cases they are not getting enough rest

If the government of the day was maintaining and protecting the railway, there would not be a need for the trucks on the roads.

I'm sure these drivers must be on their phones watching videos. Obviosly they're not paying attention. In the UK a few years ago there was a truck accident like this and when the police checked the drivers phone they saw he had been watching videos almost his whole journey.

@10:35 surely if he alone took a 50% paycut, he could still have enough for caviar lifestyle, and enough of a budgbet to commission 23 TWENTY THREE traffic enforcement officers at the going rate of JMPD and have some change left over.

The companies are as much at fault as SANRAL is. Such incidences I would start up a private security company and gun down trucks that drive recklessly so that the word will spread if you value your life, value the others lives and drive safely you will live.

I'm from Germany but grew up in KZN and am sorry that the failings of our previous German government has lead to this energy crisis. The South African government won't do anything for you. Follow the Money: try contacting the German consulate in Durban or even the embassy in Joburg. Or a long shot: tweet to Ricarda Lang, the leader of the German green party that is responsible for the German energy policy. My uncle used to work on the coal train to Richards Bay. What happened to that train line? Is it necessary to transport all the coal by road?

"It envolves cost and budget" Ok, fair point buf what about that entourage? Here's an idea, toll gates on both routes for coal trucks only. Sanral should like that idea, they like tax money. Imagine them ploughing through that.
