I wrecked, my 1932 Willey's coup, none the less, on Dead man's curve, on Ute Pass, behind Pikes Peak. Going to work, from Cripple Creek, to Colorado springs. A deer ran out, got stuck in my passenger side wheel, into the river I went. I grew up watching , everyone dragging Nevada Ave, on weekends with every Muscle car, you could race , chase with wheelie bars, and a few chutes. I so appreciate, these Guys, thanks for Sharing, and showing the younger bunch. Rock, Roll & Cage - em !.

I really love the stance of the Gasser. I am 65 years young, in the bottom of my bucket, bucket list has been to own, create, a Gasser. 3 years ago I purchased a really beautiful 1956 Chevrolet (garage find) 210 station wagon with the dream of making a Gasser Wagon. The Wagon is so original looking and I get so many comments and thumbs up driving it to the Doctors Office that now my Dream has been dashed. I have fallen in love with it as is. ( original wide white wall tires and full face BelAir hub caps, three on the tree standard trans ) I will keep my dream and maybe someday find a donor that I can improve making it a Gasser. Before the Sun goes down on my life I would really enjoy meeting the D M C Club members and hang with them.

Where I'm from, the Gassers on the Street were happening in the late 60's (66- up) I'm from South San Francisco ( South City, home to Gotelli's Speed Shop, Andy and Roy Brizio, Sanderson Headers, and the very first was Champion Speed Shop. Everyone I know was building and driving a Gasser style hot rod. Myself,I had a 56 Chevy 210 straight post 3 door station wagon. 283 ci with dual quads, 30/30 Duntov 3/4 race cam, fender well headers,I didn't have a straight axle but I did have extended spindlesthat Jacked the front end up to the sky! I ran old Crager Magnesium front wheels, and out back were pie crust cheaters on steel wheels painted black and white for that flip flop look, what a Gas! Great time to grow up!!

Bit of trivia on the early Novi’s (ref the 1963 at 22 m); the car was a unit body in that it had no frame and the front suspension was just attached to the body at the firewall. This was all Ok until the SB V8 was available as a factory option in 1964, problem was the front of the car was designed using the engine as part of the suspension via the motor mounts which when tied all together made for a “somewhat” sturdy unit. However when the V8 was offered in 64, the factory had to specify a special block that had additional casting strength at the mounts seats, this to preclude pulling the seats right out of the block. I converted a 63 Novi wagon to a SB V8 in the mid ‘60s and had to get one of these blocks. The crappy suspension and brakes on these early Novi’s was not safe, I used Malibu brake components all around which helped but front-end alignment was always a problem.

To build a Gasser, you have to follow rules and be "period correct". It almost bothers me to hear people call those cars gassers. @@specialopsdave johnny mack brown -- I believe most places in this Country have one, or call a curve that. I had an Engineer explain to me that curves in most roads have an even radius but when a curve starts out at one radius and changes part way around, it confuses the driver who doesn’t expect it. After he told me that the next time I was on it I saw that it did, about half way around it the turn got tighter. That, ‘’Dead Man’s Curve’’ was near the Eastern most part of MA near a Graveyard that may well have been 200 years old. Explains the reason for the odd curve, if you follow? Cheers!!! Hi MisterAMuck Oh, ok, you're talking about one on the Vineyard. The one I had in mind is on the big curve before entering Heritage Plantation Automobile Museum and Gardens. It's a tough curve with frost heaves and patches. Two kids I went to High School with in the 1970's died on that curve, and it has a very old cemetery on the inside of the curve. Both motorcycle accidents. One was the brother of my friend I graduated with in 1979, the other happened a few years before to a guy that was in my sister's class. There have been quite a few accidents on that curve before and since then. It used to be dangerous to ride motorcycles, now it's dangerous just to go to the grocery store. Take care. Drive safe
