DEAD MALL: Chapel Hill Mall - Akron, OH *NOW CLOSED*
DEAD MALL: Chapel Hill Mall - Akron, OH. This mall is one that is struggling to survive. Now in foreclosure proceedings, this place has struggled to pay bills yet the owner had money to buy another mall. Will the Chapel Hill Mall survive the pandemic once things reopen? Or will this place become the new Rolling Acres Mall?

Chapel Hill Mall officially closed for good on Sunday, April 18, 2021.
The music reminds me of the 80's so much. I miss the 80's. I grew up going to Rolling Acres and Chapel Hill mall in the early to mid 90's. I remember the big snowman that Chapel Hill Mall had during the christmas season. I also remember the arcade located upstairs by the food court in Rolling Acres. I also remember a Burger King in Summit Mall located in the front of the mall near Ruby Tuesday(now PF Changs). I think Firestone is one of the few stores still in Summit Mall that has stayed since I was a kid in the early 90's
If there's one thing I miss about Sears, it's the auto centers. Those guys did fantastic work at prices you couldn't beat!
Love the argyle on the ceiling!
My wife use to go there back in the seventies. She told me of a giant talking snowman named Archie at Christmas time .
This was my hometown mall growing up.long before there were all the outparcel stores. They have been booming for years while the mall silently takes its last breaths. It's sad to see it empty and in disrepair like this. Kohan is in the mall killing business..every mall they own turns into a bigger pile of shit and is written off once it dies
I love the design of this place, it’s very nice and pretty and I hope the best for this mall, especially JCPenney as a whole.
The old Sears by me, is now a Stew Leonard's grocery store...
The make a key place in the parking lot ❤️ I remember these and the occasional photo center sheds in mall parking lots.
That Regal theatre building is so cool, wow.
I know I haven’t watched the whole video but I worked at Chapel Hill mall twice. Once at Steve and Barry’s then at Old Navy. Had some good times too. The night before my wedding our friends took us here with Bride and Groom sashes and took pictures of us. What destroyed this mall was banning teenagers on weekends after 5pm. Then the big department stores started closing. We did have a huge glut of malls. I mostly went to rolling acres until it got too dangerous. I don’t know if they ever stopped bus service to the mall because that was a big deal. The carousel and the fountain were awesome too. Been gone from Akron 10 years now. Hard to see it deteriorate like this.
Weird/funny thing there is a mall near me called Chapel Hills Mall that actually did include a Kmart. The kmart has since been replaced with a newly built theatre.
JCPenney leaving is a huge blow to this mall. Kohan is going to let this place die just like he has at other properties. It is a real shame because the interior of this mall has a lot of character. What can these clowns prosecute you for by taking photos of the mall for anyway?
Love the classic building design of the former Macy’s. The one on Stow is still open and fabulous.
When I was a little girl my parents took me there all the time. I called it, “ Happy Hills”😊🍿🎠
That mall has seen better days
Lovin how stable this footage is, completely agree, it's a terminal thing when the utilities get cut off,,it's always gonna be that gut sinking feeling seeing the Continuing decline of malls,it was the place to be back in the day
sad to see all these Sears and Kmart's going out of business I give it two or three more years and there will be no more Kmarts or no more Sears
Wallie, I don't think they had $10M to buy that other mall. I bet they found a bank to finance most of it.
Great video Wallie. It’s sad that Akron’s malls are dying, first Rolling Acres and now Chapel Hill.
