I haven't listened to the entirety of this yet, but I enjoyed hearing Straub praise Joe Hill. I'd like to take a moment to say how great his own child's writing is: Emma Straub is an absolutely terrific novelist. About as far from horror as you can get, but terrific all the same!

The Talisman is a wonderful book. So much strength, heart and warmth. I've re-read it many times, and I will read it again.

What he says about Vietnam is very true. My dad did two tours and everything in his life ultimately cycles back to it. So many of his problems but also some of his strengths.

I can't tell you how great it is to see this interview, and to see Mr. Straub doing well. The Blue Rose Trilogy remain my favorite books of the "horror" genre, although I seem to recall no supernatural activity in any of them. The Throat in particular is a masterpiece that belongs in any American Literature class. Reading The Throat was probably the last time I got truly lost in a book to the point where I forgot about the passage of time and the world around me.

Thank you for this interview with Mr. Straub. I’ve long enjoyed his work, and it’s great to see him so talkative and animated after his recent hospitalization. I wish him good health and good fortune - and much thanks for many hours of thought provoking and moving fiction.
