    Maybe the psychologist is talking to himself when he was a teen. And the psychologist is subconsciously wishing he could go back in time and choose a different route (“doing what I want” like the teen said) instead of the traditional route, which turned out to be a “dead end” for him. At least when I think of it that way, the ending seems liberating somehow...

    A small nitpick, but I think it adds to your comment, the teen is playing a game of risk, a risk is a chance of something bad happening, whilst the counselor is playing a game of chance, the kid hasn’t accepted his life is in a steady decline yet but the counselor has, that’s why the teed does random things he knows won’t change anything for the better because he still believes he can do that himself, the counselor however has accepted his life is at a dead end and desperately tries to get himself out of there by gambling his money away in the hopes of finally getting lucky. The kid and the counselor is at the core the same, but one of them is too far gone.

  • @baylix3725
    @baylix37253 жыл бұрын

    When the kid talks to the counselor, he sees what he could end up as. Depressed, lonely, and stuck in a dead end job. The kid doesn’t want that for himself, so he runs away and starts a new life. It’s already too late for the counselor he is forever stuck in ‘the usual’. But when he said to the kid that he isn’t doing anything to change is circumstances, he was shocked into finally changing his life. It might go for the better or the worse but at least the kid is doing something.

    When you are depressed you hate your life but you do nothing to change it . I know that , I’ve been there. Its partly our fault for not trying to get better , but partly the desease fault for making our brain not want to be any better , the depressions makes us not want to fight for something better . And even when we are not at the bottom of the pit yet /anymore and are trying to ge better that is not easy, and just trying to get better won’t work . Just wishing or trying as hard as we can won’t work alone . Of course if you don’t try to be positive and never give up ,and don’t try to be happy you won’t get anywhere, but if you only have that but get no help from people you probably won’t get anywhere either . We need help from family, friends, society, school, anybody, and in most cases we need therapy, pills , and time . People with depression need indeed to try help themselves more and to fight , to be positive , to never give up, and give themselves a chance ,but the other people need to understand that is not that simple , and that is a disease after all, and when things are real bad it afacts our brain so badly that it makes us not want to get better , makes us want to just give up. And even when we try , it’s hard as hell because it’s a desease for god sake , we need professional help , we need support from people we love and from society or school too.

    I’m watching this while drowning in revision and exams. I don’t see myself passing any of them, and I feel so lost, and now that I know I will fail them, I don’t know where my place in society will be, when I have devoted my life to school, so when I fail the exams and don’t get into the school I want to, I will be untethered, unsure of my place in society. I’ve dug my grave, now I’ll lie in it. Because there is no choice anymore.

    Here’s my little story, I haven’t devoted my life to school and I have gotten summer school twice and am probably going to repeat a grade, but during the time when I was not caring for school I found out that I want give people some sort of enjoyment,ya know? I always thought that I wanted to be an architect or physicists, even though it seems enjoyable to me I never really saw those careers without the thought of money. As of now I’m working during the summer to buy an electric guitar to make some upbeat and inspiring music to help others. As if it is their morning coffee, I see a lot of music is revolved around sadness and some upbeat stuff but not a lot is focused on trying to inspire others to get up and become a better person. What i am saying is, take some time off for yourself like this summer and devote your time to something that’s meaningful and right for you, i say it’s better to have life with meaning where you know what you want to do rather than devoting your time to something that can keep up this torturous life

    I don't think it clearly shows that he wants to die, although it could be possible. It has a connection with the boy because he plays the game with his fingers and a knife- that way he is feeling something aka euphoria. The man does the same but with gambling, that's why the woman is holding the knife- he also plays the same game but it looks different. For a boy, he feels something (pain) when the knife hits him, and the man feels something when he wins. Because the video mixed those two games together, the man is a finger, and because the boy feels when he's hurts, gambling misses the man aka the loot that he would get (because he doesn't feel anything). That's my opinion, but i also think it could be whta you said

    Im scared if this is my future. I don’t smoke, drink, do drugs, I got an A, B snd 2 C’s in my classes, but I’m a slightly chubby 17 year old who can never feel motivated. My mom has politely told me what the counselor said, and I love my mom, she’s been there with my dad to support me in dome really tough moments of my high school career, but how do I find motivation? I know its not something you magically acquire, but I’m scared I may never acquire it. It’s a good thing the internet is anonymous so I can vent my problems and frustrations without having to care too much, but I feel lost now. I could blame the pandemic, but deep down I know that I’ve always been this way, I don’t try to stand out from the crowd like the Emo/Goth clique, I have enough confidence to know my self worth, but I don’t have the charisma or the body to play sports or be hip. I feel like i’m just doomed to disappoint and I don’t want to do that. I’m just scared of the future I suppose. I just want time to stand still, give me a second to breathe, give me a chance to make memories, but it’s so hard to fight against time. I’m not suicidal, I like being alive and hate death or the threat of it, but I feel so melancholy when I think about the future. Everything is so simple, and when it gets complicated wtf do I do? Maybe I’m a tad overwhelmed and overdramatic, but I just want to experience life with the people I love before I get too old. Scared of the future coming too quickly.

    I was in a similar situation. I still am partly. Try to know yourself and know what you want to do in your life to be happy. Take your time, days, weeks, and if you don't find anything to fight for, it could mean that you don't need anything to be happy and you are just overthinking, what is normal at this age. About being scared of the future coming too quickly, I recommend you to center on the *reality*, and stay in the present, in the moment. Don't think too much about the past or the future, and don't waste your time in imaginations of things that could have happened or could happen in the future. Be patient, if you don't like something of your actual life, start changing it, you will have opportunities in life to be your best version. If you want to really know yourself, you should read self help books and investigate about depression, anxiety and meditation, and if you think you need help, you must go to a professional psycologist.

    Specifically on what you said about motivation your right that it doesn't appear out of nowhere. Usually motivation actually comes after you've started something, then motivation kicks in to follow it through to the end. That is a very simplified version of it but its often the case and I know it doesn't really sound fair at all that the only way to become motivated and do something is to start doing something. But you've just got to try and push past those mental barriers which can be a really hard thing to do, don't beat yourself up about it you're not the only one feeling things like this. I know you made this comment a while ago but I really hope you're doing well and even if you're not know that you still have value and the world would be worse without you in it. Catch ya on the flip side. (I don't know what I said that last part)

The kid, however, is assertive (lighting the hat on fire, playing with a knife, stealing a wallet) even if it gets him in trouble. The counselor isn't doing anything (waiting for luck to change his life) and so life is just kind of taking control of him. The kid does buy his ticket out at the end but it is down a one way road. *In short:* The kid: One way road The Counselor: Dead end

    Damn he’s projecting so hard on that kid. Beautiful work as always, vewn. I always love all the Easter eggs and small details you include, and you’re so amazing at color schemes and mood setting

    Sometimes you can't do anything though , feeling that helplessness the weight pry that maybe you can do something different. Not everything is in you're control, but that doesn't mean you can't fix it. Just gotta keep moving man, you got this. Be the change you want to be when you have the chance.

    Yeah and he is right. You can’t complain if you don’t do anything to change your life. People don’t understand how much power they have to turn things around and nothing is to late. Grow some balls and achieve greatness.

    "you hate school but you still come here because its not like theres anything better to do. you wish your life would change but you do nothing to actually make that happen" lol the guidance counselor wasnt even talking about the kid... he was taking about himself. the posters all around the school say shit like "GO TO COLLEGE AND YOU *WILL* BE HAPPY" but the counselor went to college and he hates his life

    I think the idea was that the sentence "dead end" applies to the councellor, not the kid

    I thin the counselor was talking to the kid. But the kid is his past self. It’s a dead end because it always ends the same. He’s reevaluating his past self wondering how he got to where he’s at. But he could and can’t ever find out why. Living a life that goes no where. Dead end.

    really impressive that you're able to show so much, and to create an atmosphere so unique and make in depth characters in such a short time and most of the bigshot movies aren't able to do it (not to shit on other people to compliment you but yeah)
