Not surprised at all Fiesta closed. The management company was most likely charging more for the retail spaces than what was financially lucrative for those stores. And the strip mall in the NW corner of Southern & Alma School has been empty since I moved here in '99.

This is so sad. My maternal grandma used to take me to Fiesta Mall to get my hair cut back in the '80s whenever she went to have hers done, then we'd always eat at a restaurant in one of the department stores (don't recall which one now). She passed back in '95 and I still miss her so much. Fiesta was a reminder of her, so seeing it like this hurts.

I loved this Fiesta Mall and it was a good place to do shopping, have a fun and eat something and even just walk around. Also, this mall had a good stores where people did shopping, came with their children and even they had some concert too. Actually, I was very sad when they decided to close this mall a few years ago and almost all of the stores are moved out. Yes, it was a small mall but it locates next to the college and other places too.

Dream Big Productions I shopped at this mall all my life. I was a toddler and I got in the elevator alone... My brother and I used to crawl around and hide in the racks of clothes. When I was 5 my mom was buying pillows and had to try something on. So I laid down on the pillows and the woman next to me was TRYING ON BRAS 👀. Is that why I am a big tit man? 😇

I will miss this mall as I spent my formative years between here, Fashion Square and Superstition. I saw a punk band play a live gig in the parking lot 17 years ago and it was great. Fun fact the only official Diamondbacks team store was in Fiesta until like 08. The only place other than Bank One Ballpark to get official team merch. I watched the sharp decline of Fiesta mall and see the same thing happening rapidly at Superstition mall and honestly for the past ten years I've said good riddance. Mall stores, even chain stores are more expensive with a limited stock compared to their online counterparts, even ordering directly from most stores like Dillards, Macy's, HotTopic etc is a better experience online.

We did a chorus show there and a small kid got his head stuck in the upstairs railings. That's when they added those middle rebar that are kind of been and don't look like they were originally there.

When this Mall was built and opened to the public in Mesa, it stood as one of the Greater places to go to [to get out of the Desert Sun] in the Summer time. In the 1980s, it was a place to get out of the Sun and wlak around in peaceful abandonment. Then the 1990's came. Along with the ever-increasing changes, brought on by the increasing illegal Mexican pressence ...it soon became a lesser frequented Shopping experience. Crimes like stabbings, started to happen inside the Mall and some of the bigger 'anchor' stores started to pull their companies out. The neighborhood is a crappier shell of what it once was, and the plans for this building were scheduled to be converted into a College [ironiclly] in an attempt to educate the lower classes of peopel now calling Mesa their Home. Gangs now fight for turf in Mesa. Way to go Humanity.

My mom an I drove past the Fiesta Mall when we had to go to Arizona Mills Mall, I remember seeing the parking lot packed with cars. I heard now the Arrowhead Towne Center Mall lost it's Sears store and might lose its Forever 21 store. I also heard Metrocenter Mall is being re-done it's gonna be an outdoor mall, much like West-Gate.

I lived at 1141 W Frito Avenue, just across the street before/during/after Sears was built and then Fiesta Mall followed it. Saw the place change so much in the 70's-80's as the snowbirds and 'other state' invaders (lol) moved in. Alma School Rd was all dirt back then and 60 had not yet made it to Alma School Rd.

Since it became easier to order things online, at a lesser price and shipped to you for free malls were made obsolete. About the only thing that can stay open is clothing stores since you really have to try things on.

There are plans being developed by a collaboration of the City of Mesa, the Maricopa County Community College District and ASU to turn the facility into a health sciences education center including a nursing school and a college of medicine. Whether or not it comes to fruition, that's another thing. The crazy thing is that "Bath and Body Works" wants to maintain the store after the transformation.
