Hopefully, you can take something away from Potato's practical approach to combat landings. Similar to the Huey Combat Landings, the Mi-8 Hip needs a long approach to slow down when heavy with troops and a crate. Keep in mind, Potato was 50% fuel at take-off and had a full platoon of MANPAD Infantry onboard. CSAR is a great way to support the battlefield with your utility helicopter. Communication is also key, utilize all advantages that you are given. Practice, Practice, Practice! Landing in DCS is difficult, especially with only the trusty Mk.1 Eyeballs to "Feel" what's going on.
Remember to practice, Enjoy!

Recently got the Mi-8 and enjoying it very much. This video is a good demo and has helped to understand how to perform the quicker landings, so thanks!

Killer video. I am a noob who's just learning to get airborne and take out tankers lined up in a nice neat row. This is high level shit. Actually carrying cargo and doing SAR missions along the way. I hope to be there one day. In the mean time, I have more busses to strafe...lol Liked and subbed

Thank you for watching, Friend! Bacon and I have been playing for a long time and with that comes the natural exploration of all types of DCS fun. Rotorheads server is the best for this type of gameplay. We love sling loading and have some good shorts out for them. If you have any questions or want to see certain videos, let us know!! Enjoy, friend!

@@BaconPotatoGaming Well, now that you mention it, the Mi-8 is my current project and I am struggling. Take off, cruise is down cold. It's the landing. 50% of the time VRS ends up shoving my dumbass into the ground. The way you went from full ass cruise to hover so smoothly just awed me. I slowly descend into ground effect then plant it hard to land. Not ideal. If you have a video, or know of one that could help me smooth out that landing, I would be golden. I can get the rest on my own. I was searching when I came across your video. Thanks pal.

I'm thinking about playing on rotor heads but I can't talk on SRS because I don't have any working keybinds for a mic nor a mic in general, what would I do? Would it be fine if I didn't play with the SRS?

It is no problem to type only in Rotorheads. Everyone is friendly and will have no problem typing if they need to communicate with you! We strongly recommend you set up the ability to listen at the least. It will help with the situational awareness greatly!! Rotorheads is a wonderful place to fly, make sure to verify correctly through the Rotorheads instructions and you will be all set, friend! Thank you for watching!

8:00 did an APC rolled out from the mi 8 right there? LOL Everytime i try execute a hard turn to bleed off lateral velocity, my rotor spool down along with a high pitch woosh sound. Then i drop like a rock. With a low altitude of 10 meters i can't recover from that. Maybe i was pulling a little to hard?

It was cut out of the video, but internally, I took a tow Humvee. I dropped the crate and then built the vehicle to help cover for something more serious down the road. For your slow down process, the noise you are hearing happens when you pull too much power from the collective. It id strongly recommended to lower collective to 1/4 or lower and raise the nose to compensate for the loss in altitude. It’s ok to slam that collective down, but if you feel rumbling and see lots of disturbance in the airframe, raise the collective in a slow and smooth motion to compensate for the loss in altitude while pushing the nose dowsed a bit. You have massive rotors and the Hippo is a heavy girl. Very prone to VRS. Because of this, you need to learn how to use ground affect before you can slow down with power. Be brave, young pilot. Get low, very low before making these maneuvers. Never jerk the collective when learning. It provides false sense of confidence. Take your time learning the pick up speed where you need to adjust the rudders and stick heavily when you are exiting translational lift. Landing is the hard part, practice in offline mode just putting your eyes on a place to land with lots of runway at first, and then migrate to a spot in a clearing for practice. You got this! Thanks for watching! -BPG
