Great video, loving the launch sound. I have heard that navy planes use trigger for firing missiles and air force jets use pickle button. So far this seems consistent with dcs as well as bms

Really like the seeker sound turning up and the missiles DO sound while shooting! Other modules learn from HB

I strongly advise you to read a book "Sidewinder" about making of the missile, its history. Great read for historical and technical junkies. Hard to believe how simple aim-9 was initially. And the rollerons idea... Its on amazon kindle store.

The sidewinder was developed in a garage, next to the house of the designer. I read that 30 years ago, but still remember. And the SW was so succesful that the KGB stole a SW from an US Airbase in West Germany.

@@mardiffv.8775 And reverse-engineered an AA-2 Atoll missile which was such a copycat that certain original parts were fitting straight from aim-9. Americans discovered it when Atoll lodged into an US jet and did not explode, bringing the russian missile to US base. Why do they always copycat US and not vice versa?

But the Phœnix drops from the plane and then engages the engine.... and that is also the trigger... but it falls off the plane

Jabbers, In the awesome video, you talk about the Double D mode (default) for the AIM-9 on the HUD. Specifically around the 3:20 mark. It is the seeker head searching around the crosshair. But when I arm up the AIM-9 I am not seeing this seeker. Is this a binding I need to set? Not sure why it is that I do not see this. I normally fly using the AIM-9M model. Is it something to a different model of AIM-9? Any ideas?? Thanks again for the great videos!!!

Hi, would I be correct to assume that when using the radar slave method to lock up a target and fire, the target is then made aware of the missile since my radar would be alerting them to the lock?

No the radar is only helping with the initial launch

Because other devs don't care. HB is raising the bar, hopefully it will make others rise to the challenge. :)

I'm curious, the manual says the sidewinder can be deployed against missiles as well. How effective is the sidewinder against on coming missiles and which situations can they be used to the f14's advantage?

strange, maybe ill at some point do a video about how to set up trackir, been getting a lot of similar requests as you, my setup is custom, and as should everyones. The setup is based on distance from monitor and width of monitor.

So in other aircraft you get a ranging indicator or a no escape or shoot cues. The Bravo doesn't seem to have that so can you ask jester for ranging info or is it somewhere else on the HUD or on the displays?

Michael Rockford It does. Jump to 6:46 in the video. You need radar lock for it to work since simply locking up with the missile seeker gives no range information. This is actually the case with all other aircraft but you are probably used to using the radar to lock up targets for the sidewinder. Maybe the Russian planes are different with their IRST sensor.

The RIO has expanded Rmin, Rmax and Rne information on his display, it can even display the dynamic launch zones for all locked TWS targets simultaneously. Read the manual and you'll know more about this.

Am i missing something? Why can't I get my F14 to use the double D scan like yours? Master Arm is ON, the Sidewinder is selected, A/A combat mode is selected, SW COOL is ON, I think I got everything right. However, unlike yours, my MSL mode is locked at Normal mode, no effect when pressing the button, also the scanning is bore sight, I can't get the double D to work.

No it was never suppose to be there, the SMEs for HB said it was the pattern but never showed on the hud so HB removed it

so mine seems to always be on bore sight? i dont get the fancy circle like actually moving on my hud scanning... how do i get that? I can hear that it is doing the pattern but cant visually see it

Ya, there was an order to these when i made them... so assumptions were made, i probably should have restated.

IDK if anyone has a solution to this, but when I select my Sidewinders, they're set by default in boresight mode. My Mode/STP switch is set to NORM, and when I hit my Cage/Seam bind on my HOTAS it never switches off of boresight aim, so I can't use the double d scan or anything other than putting my crosshair directly on the target. Anyone know a fix?

@@tehbigshow for sure, that looks real cool. I can't wait to test it out with a jet, seems like it might make tanking alot harder. I'm pretty sure the beefed up engines on the B are alot more resilient to stalls from jetwash.

I saw that you have your name on the side of the plane. Is this part of your skin or is it possible to do this pre flight?

I would appreciate for a tutorial and I hope you will make aim-7 one, I have never hit the target by Aim-7...yes there are VSL HI/LOW , PLM and ACM mode tutorial by jabbers but.. I don't know exactly what i am doing wrong launch sparrow if possible i would like to hit the target about 20 miles away.. but i always miss the target and attacked from other enemy..and eject over and over.. please help me

In DCS sparrows are basically WVR missiles, I wouldn’t expect a AIM-7 to hit unless launched within 10nm or less

Need help thinking on my error hmmm..... My sidewinder don´t make this search pattern when i activate this..... where is the error :/ Think its the seam mode.

I've been trying to figure this out for hours but can't. I cannot get the Double D pattern to start\show no matter what I do. I've done it in the same exact sequence as you and I cannot get the DD patter. Is there something I'm missing that you don't show in the video? VSL Hi, VSL Lo, and Pal work just fine.
