DCS Mig-21 - 3 kills in 3 minutes

Ойындар

I randomly took a day off of work earlier this week and spent the majority of it flying on Enigma's Cold War server. I wanted to dedicate some real time to getting better not only in a cold war plane, but in the cold war setting as a whole.
Most people who have seen my content know that I fly mainly WWII warbirds, and the cold war setting is entirely different in a lot of ways. By the end of the day I was dropping enemy planes like flies, including this short stint where I got 3 kills in as many minutes!
At the end of that day I was landing, rearming and refueling and heading up again, and I think I got 16 kills in a single plane before my number finally came up.
I am finally feeling pretty comfortable in the Mig-21 and it is easily one of my favorite planes on Enigma's server, largely due to good IFF on the radar which really helps me plan my attacks. It also has power for days and good maneuverability, which makes it a joy to fly.

Good vid! do you stabilize in post processing? If you'd want to change the lense effect I think you can change the screen to a rectangle in the VR tab in settings :) I use HP reverb G2 as well.

I don't actually stabilize in post. Didn't know that was a thing for sims really. I'm using Davinci Resolve for editing, but I may have to look into that. I do have it set for the rectangle in the settings, but the Reverb G2 seems to have a more pronounced area that is cut off than some other headsets. In order for me to get rid of that last bit it would really eat into the visible area unfortunately. If I don't click for the rectangular crop in DCS that's much more pronounced yet. Have you been able to get rid of that fully with your G2?

@@newbiefodder Yes, so it does seem to cut off a lot, but I find the vids are still watchable. I use "Crop to rect" for Right Eye and I also check "Use system resolution" box in VR mirror (above crop to rect), then in system I set HD (1920 x 1080) and I get a nice 16:9 screen. To be honest- I asked about the stabilization because your vid looks quite smooth, does not look like you need it. Do you use some motion smoothing option in OpenXR? I seem to remember it had something like that but I was never able to find it- hence I use LVK stabilization in OBS, but that generates artifacts (screen warp, ghosting sometimes).

I have RIGHT EYE and Crop To Rectangle selected, as well use Use DCS System Resolution and this is what I get. My mirror is still running 3840x2160 as that is my native resolution. That also means that I record quite high def as well. If we are running the same settings in DCS I wonder why you aren't getting the lens effect in the video. Have you done anything in post? As for the stabilization, in Open XR I have Over-prediction Reduction to -60% in the Inputs tab. That may be it.

@@newbiefodder Hmm! That is a bit strange- that it still shows you the lens cut-out... I will ask a buddy who was recently still using HP reverb G2s and maybe he remembers something I dont. I will try to get back to you on this :)

It's not that hard, provided that you are well familiar with basic concepts.

There are a lot of online communities and resources that can help you out, and often if you ask in a server someone will hop in a channel with you to help show you the ropes. I've had huge help from a number of people over the years. Don't let the learning curve scare you. It's well worth the time. Also, once you learn the basics on one plane there is often a lot of carry over to other planes, even if switches are in different places.

I have an i9-11900k overclocked to 5.3 GHz, 64 Gb DDR4 3200 RAM, RTX 4090. If you have a Reverb or another WMR headset, make sure to set it to use OpenXR instead of SteamVR for the runtime. It'll improve performance a lot. Also, it might be worth running a repair of your DCS files if it's crashing a lot.

Enigma's Cold War. It's usually quite populated, and runs all cold war maps. No modern day stuff, and this particular map was early cold war, so it had the really old missiles. That fits me perfect as I usually fly WWII stuff, so this is closer to that then later maps where the missiles are a lot better
